H2O is so great for a clear mind. Drink a glass before and after your coffee.
Tools for Mentally Ill Students #1
Hey guys! So Iâve been thinking a lot about what I use to control my mental health and keep me on track to recovery. Little things that make life easier for when everything seems hard. Theyâre not going to work miracles, but they can at least help, so I thought Iâd share them with you. Hereâs part one.
The DBT Wellness Planner
This planner uses dialetical behaviour therapy to help you bring order to your life and keep track of your emotions. I received it as a gift a few months ago and it has helped SO much. I really recommend this.
Anxiety and Worry Workbook
A lot of students cannot access therapy, whether because of money or your family or whatever. Workbooks can help you start developing skills by yourself. Itâs hard, but if you put just a small amount of time into it consistently, you could really help yourself overcome symptoms. Add it to your schedule like homework. I have chosen this workbook because anxiety is something so many students struggle with.
Fidget Pen
We all know by now that fidget toys can be more distracting than anything. However, a lot of people with anxiety and similar symptoms can find fidget toys grounding. This pen is perfect for study, as itâs less likely to be taken away from you by an ignorant teacher. Just make sure youâre the kind of person who is helped by these things!
Sleep Supplement
Sleep is something most students struggle with, and the side effects can be seriously damaging to your mental health. You may be able to get a sleep aid from your doctor, but many donât prescribe them to young people for fear of them forming a habit. A natural sleep supplement might be a good alternative. Though they donât work for everyone, and are not as strong as prescription meds, supplements with things like melatonin, magnesium, and valerian root can give you a little extra push towards sleep. I find them especially useful when I canât sleep because of anxiety. (Always keep in mind your specific body and needs before taking supplements).
Pill Reminder Clock / Reminder Bottle / Portable Bag
Remembering to take meds can be hard. Even apps can be easy to miss and ignore. Thatâs why Iâve added three different options to help you remember your meds. The first is an amazing alarm clock that says stuff like âGood morning, please remember to take your morning pillsâ. The second is pill bottles with caps that automatically count down from when you last took your meds. The third is a set of containers that fit into a small, discreet portable bag.Â
Fitness Tracker
Regular exercise can be vital to help you regulate emotions and sleep. A fitness tracker can help you keep this up. You donât have to fork out for a Fitbit, especially since youâre a student. There are plenty of cheaper options out there. One like this, with a heart rate monitor, can also be good for tracking anxiety.Â
Intake-Tracking Water Bottle
Weâve all heard it a million times- we should drink more water. Itâs not gonna cure us, but it does help our overall health. However, it can be hard to remember to drink enough, which is where bottles like this come in. Itâs clearly marked showing you how much you should have drunk by different times of the day.

To all of my followers, PLEASE READ THIS!!!!
Practical real-time tips for Anxiety
Breathing. Breathe in for the count of five, hold for five, breathe out for five. Repeat until your racing heart slows and the adrenaline (the thing that causes nausea, shakiness, etc.) isnât pumping around your body so fast.Â
Grounding. Make note of things that are set in reality. Whatâs the date? What colour are the walls? What can you feel if you reach out in front of you?
Exercise. Youâre shaking, youâve got too much adrenaline, too much energy. Run/dance/jump it off.Â
Eat. Something small if youâre feeling nauseous, something plain in taste. This will help settle the acidity in your stomach that comes with being very anxious. Crackers, toast & bread sticks are some of my top choices.
Music. Have a playlist for bad days. Fill it with songs that lift you up and empower you. Do not include anything to do with being in love, being reliant on a boy/girlfriend, depression or grief.

âFailure, is the panic that quickens the heart, the gloom that brings in stress, the rain above our heads, the darkness in our day but itâs also the weight that our body carries that we can choose to either lose or use it to gain. Learn how to convert that failure into something else.â

Failures are an experience. Dont let it stop you from what you want for yourself.
for anyone stressing out about bad grades, itâs not the end of the world. my dogâs doctor flunked out of her second year of vet school but now sheâs the only vet in a town of approximately 35,000 people and who knows how many pets. i always think about this when iâm feeling overwhelmed, and i remember that things will work out in the end.

For my Bae's I'm here for you but I'm just sleeping.
Donât be afraid to be âtoo much.â Call me 5 times a day because you wanna hear my voice or something came up and you wanna tell me immediately. Text me 12 times in a row when I donât answer fast enough. Leave me cute texts when you canât sleep. Hold my hand. Everywhere. Sit really close to me on the couch. Keep your hand on my thigh. Always have a part of you touching a part of me. Tell me you love me every hour I donât care I want to be smothered in love holy fuck life is too short to hold back.

Cultivate yourself.Â
Just look at how much bacteria grows when itâs surrounded by warmth.Â
Only then will you grow from within and notice all the negativity hiding all around you.
But also sterilize yourself from nasty people. Destroy that shit.

Amen!
I cannot stress this enough- Build a routine. Build Habits. Wake up every day and get used to being productive, one day at a time. Do this for long enough and eventually youâll be at your goal without even realising it.Â
