Aw, what the heck, I'll give you guys a little preview. ;) I know it helps some to have a visual of just how much was lost. This is using the same size paper as the previous line up, so all that blank space? Yup.
cursed idea: do a second lineup of field colony following the absolute carnage that was shifting roots :'-)
Don't worry.

Ivy, River Colony New-Claw
The final straw had been Rainfall's decision to start swimming practice for the kittens earlier and earlier, regardless of weather conditions. Her choice had drowned two of Splash and Minnowgill's kittens. Only Ivy remained, and Splash was determined that her daughter would not grow up to serve such a corrupt colony.

Who are Cloud and Bramble? I saw some official art on your lgbt characters which included these guys that appear to be a couple. Are they appearing in this series?
Cloudheart and Brambletooth are Finchflight's moms!
They will probably not appear very much, if at all, in the books. That's just due to their age, both have passed by the time Clouded Moon starts. If we ever write any pre-CM material, they will make an appearance as a Keeper (Cloud) and Ranger (Bramble).

Graymist-Field Colony Ranger
Mate: Fleetfoot Parents: Twistfly and Glitterpond Kitten: Stone
Graymist considers herself pretty lucky. She has a loving mate and son, friends who look out for each other and are dependable, and leadership who are dedicated to guarding the most vulnerable members of the colony. Graymist thanks the spirits that her baby, Stone, didn’t have to go through the hardships that Graymist did as a kitten.
When shade coyotes attacked Field Colony, Graymist had been one of the oldest kittens at the time, but that didn’t make her anymore ready to witness her friends get carried off as pieces of prey. Daisy, Periwinkle, Gale…and Oat…Graymist will never forget them.
Graymist supposes that the few of them who did survive, they all found ways to live with the pain. Forestleaf dedicated herself to her work. Shadowclaw and Toadstalk would take it out in passionate bursts of energy, and Moorbug and Meadowleap seemed to confide well in each other until Moorbug passed away. Graymist would sometimes join in with them, and often sat with Meadowleap at Moorbug’s resting place on the New Moon.
For Graymist though, the best remedy for her sadness was spending time with her loving, cheerful, playfully optimistic mate: Fleetfoot. Not all things were bad, and Fleetfoot was living proof of that.

It's pretty obvious Jaggedstripe adores Fernface, but does she reciprocate at all? From what we know, Fernface spends nearly all of her time with Volefur and/or Goldenpelt. She agreed to be Jaggedstripe's mate and have his kittens, so she clearly likes him to a certain extent, but how fond of him is she compared to her brother and Goldenpelt? Does she see their relationship as more of a means to an end like Ambereyes and Volefur's relationship?
Having kittens helps the colony become stronger, so while Fernface would rather be with a tom like Goldenpelt....Goldenpelt is holding out for his childhood sweetheart, Spottedshadow.
Fernface is not really interested in love. Just power and the security that being the guy with the biggest stick gets you. Jaggedstripe is harmless, but by being his mate, she gains power and influence. She doesn't hate Jaggedstripe, but he is definitely not getting a ton of extra affection from her.

hiya! I have a question about cross colony relationships. Is it just frowned upon but ignored if it happens? or does it vary by colony?
It varies.
Example being that Field Colony is very strict about it and a mate from another colony is frowned upon, but the situation can change depending on circumstance. The Alliance rules on this subject are very nuanced.
Hawkshell finds Wrensong's relationship with Smallpebble annoying but it's not against their moral code, so she just ignores it for the most part. On the other hand, Wildfur's relationship with Spottedshadow is frowned upon and actively discouraged by Field Colony, and therefore also discouraged by Marsh Colony.
Most matters like this are discussed by leadership. If a forbidden relationship results in kittens being born, leadership will discuss what is best for those kittens.
The rules are not a monolith! I want people to be able to explore 'forbidden romance' if they want, but it's not black and white.

sorry, I’ve been sending a lot of asks haha-
But related to the person who asked about envoy requirements, what exactly are their responsibilities? Do envoys have different daily activities than the rest of the Colony? If an envoy used to be a keeper, do they still spend most of their time doing that, just with more authority? If they were a ranger, do they still go on patrols with everyone else? Or do they get their own set of things to focus on? How’s that work?
It depends on the cat!
While some Envoys see themselves as rangers with additional responsibilities to the Council and spend most of their time participating in regular duties, others (those really vying for power, usually) tend to stay close to the Captain and Second to pick up whatever additional management duties they can, like helping organize tasks around the base or leading ranging groups on special missions. They're also seen as dependable cats to go to if someone is having a problem and can't solve it themselves, but doesn't necessarily want the Captain directly involved.
(this is something we'll definitely explore more in books 2 and 3 with our characters settling into leadership roles themselves)

Pineclaw- Dangerous River Colony Envoy
Much had changed in his months-long journey away from home; cats he’d known had died or mysteriously left, while others had been born. Then there was Pineclaw himself, a former Unbound who had joined the colony from outside.

Swiftmask-Loyal River Colony Mentor
“She made you a Mentor to spite you and keep you in your place. You should have been an Envoy months ago, instead of being made to settle like this so Pineclaw could be the only one speaking in Council meetings. You deserve better,” Wolfthorn answered, undaunted by Swiftmask’s wince at the reminder of what they both knew to be true. “As for me, most of the River-landers still don’t trust me to be in the colony at all, let alone train a new-claw.” He lowered his voice, though Moss and Gray were making plenty of noise to cover them. “There’s a reason Rainfall gave me Lakespeckle’s son to train. She has her own agenda.”
Wolfthorn chanced a glance at Swiftmask to see his reaction. At first he thought the gray-pointed tom might acknowledge the unfairness of his situation. Then the moment passed, and Swiftmask put on the happy face Wolfthorn was starting to think he’d been named for.
“Well, with River Colony having such a bountiful spring, we need all the help we can get training new-claws. Even oddballs like you!” He laid his tail over Wolfthorn’s back, but the pale tabby didn’t return the gesture. Swiftmask’s words were the kind of thing Wolfthorn would have said if he was only interested in small talk. If he didn’t want to really say anything. “The Spirits will unite the colony again. Maybe us getting new-claws is a sign of that.”

Will clouded moon go into the lore on how the colonies were made? I would love to know about the first Colony cats and how the colonies were made within the story's lore.
There are many legends about the Alliance's founding. Let's just say that, yes, we will be going into that a bit!

Pine-Crybaby Kitten of River Colony
A frightened squeak had revealed Pine. Though the kitten was the spitting image of his father, Pineclaw, his disposition was disappointingly more similar to that of his mother, Blueriver. The brown tabby kitten had already started to sniffle and sob before Iceclaw so much as unsheathed his claws.
“Monster! I saw a monster!” Pine had cried.
“Pine!” Blueriver had appeared almost at once to scold her son and bring him back to the new nursery.

Just out of curiosity, what are Volefur’s relationships with Ambereyes and their kids like? He doesn’t strike me as much of a family man, but they’ve had two litters. I would love to know more if possible!
Volefur is a family man in a sense! He is extremely loyal to his sister, Fernface. She is all the family he needs.
Volefur and Ambereye's courting is more of a partnership of convivence and duty with mix of comphet.

Gray, River Colony New-Claw
Swiftmask frowned. “You should at least be here for Gray.”
Wolfthorn gave his pelt a noncommittal shake. If anything, staying away from Gray was the best thing he could do for the new-claw. He had no doubt Rainfall had paired them to either keep an eye on Wolfthorn, or to provide a convenient excuse to get rid of Gray should the need ever arise.

Orangebrook, River Colony Herbalist-in-training
“Should I send for Orangebrook, Father?” Rainfall had asked, placing a paw on his ribs. Frozenpool had knocked her paw away with his claws still unsheathed. “As if that oaf could do a thing!” Frozenpool had snarled. “Perhaps if you had not been so weak, Lakespeckle could have lived, but you failed to convince her of your visions. Now I’m paying the price for your incompetence.”

Silverblaze - Determined River Colony Ranger
Silverblaze is strong, smart and revered by the Colony. She always brings home the most prey when she ranges and her tactical mind makes her quick on her toes. She has goals to become an Envoy; she has requested it of the Council, but she has been told that they have yet to make a decision. Instead, Rainfall put her in charge of training a New-claw, Ivy, to prove her worth to the Council.
