Character Design for my graduation film

Final animatic with soundtrack beautiful produced by Munkh. He captured the essence of the film and added a medieval touch which is appreciated. Couldn’t have imagined it any better.

The first set I did was to small, so I did one that was bigger so that there was enough space for the characters. Green screen will be used therefore I didn't want to build to many physical objects.

After the first character all the others had a more fluid building process. I used wire, scraps of fabric, multiputti, wood spoons, plasticine between others to create them. I wanted to give a unfinished look since the characters represent what is rejected by society. I felt that by using material that are leftovers or "useless" or scraps, the sense of imperfection would come across to the public more easily.

The main character was the first I tried to build. Because I didn't have any prior experience it took me 2 failures to build one that would fit the requirements needed for the film. It had to be light weighted but still be flexible and durable. I learned the importance of armature and that nice things don't always come easily. Took me a week time to finish it properly.

The first animatic was lacking in many parts. There was to much information to be compiled in a 2 minute film, and the story was filled with voids that couldn’t be explain and the animatic, although very attractive regarding the colour scheme, didn’t have a scene of space which lead to a disconnection between the character, the place and the continuity of the story.

This second version is more ruff but there’s an improvement on the flaws of the previous animatic. Although there are shoots that need to be clarified this version simplifies the story making it more suitable to the brief.

The animatic for the 2 minute film. I felt very proud of the amount of work I put into it, although there’s definitely changes to be made, but since most of the movie it’s made in stop motion I will correct everything in front of the camera and take the opportunity to be fill the blanks with creative alternatives.

FINALLY!!! FINALLY!!!

Ok now containing my entusiasm it was a grate project to work in, also allowed me to get some after effect skills. The character has change in comparison to the first draft, and my lines definitly got bolder by the time I got used to drawing Morgan. Glad have it complete and with the results.

Final movie

It was a long process indeed. The team had bigger and crazier ideas but we decided to go with more simple and humble animation. It was an interesting project and after this I’m not as sacred of doing group projects. Although I will not always end up in such nice team with good spirit and understanding. It was a good experience!

this was a quick sequence made manly from two separate animations, I took advantage of the after effect tools to put the animation together and fill out the gaps.

Some quick designs for the fire man. Over the structure I use 3 warm colours to give the fire effect.
