OMG first off, please don't apologize for yapping I'm the biggest yapper ever... I've broken tumblr comment limit for yapping LMFKSDH I got so excited reading this I never stfu about books with my irls so ty for letting me unleash my bs as well!! Hope it was okay to rb, and also under read more :))

First movie coming out on your birthday is crazy I would never stfu about that.. Tbh I didn't watch the films until very recently, so I'm probably out of my element in that regard, I need to watch the Mockingjay films. This is my sign!!

Fully agree on the first novel being so interesting in setting up everything that follows, because with all following books you of course have a preestablished pov of what's going on: I couldn't imagine reading tbosas before the first book despite it being a prequel. Seeing Katniss' perspective (like you said) and her introducing and experiencing the world, district and capital alike, perfectly set the stage for everything that comes after. (Susan's a genius for creating & introducing Panem's society via Katniss imo).

SO my favourite book is also the 1st! Mockingjay as 2nd cause Plutarch!! and finally a happy ending 😭 god I needed it.

On fav characters, I love Katniss (You're so real on her btw). But main character's aren't usually my top favs. Haymitch, Madge, and Tigress are my absolute favourites! Madge was imo, the silent impact. Her presence exemplified how nuanced & realistic thg depicted class struggles despite only being in a few pages. She's also, atp, Katniss' only female friend, the reason the mockingjay symbol exists etc. Haymitch :( he cared so much for Katniss & Peeta. TIGRESS!!! OMG reading tbosas and Snow's egotism (which btw, tbosas was insanely well written) plus how he perceived Tigress, who despite supposedly being family to him and he, in his mind, "loved" also be treated as.. objects to him? :( She was so compassionate and haunted for a capitol person.

Secondary favs for me would be Plutarch and Thresh. Plutarch was so schemey dude, can't help but love the guy. He's also so fucking interesting like, I want to study his brain. Wtf is his problem, #would. Don't get me started on him I wont stfu LMFSOAD. Thresh was barely there but I sobbed so hard at Rue's death and him sparing Katniss afterwards.

hi!!! no dw i don't mind at all (maybe i manifested this as part of my master plan so we can get closer) aljklsjlsjlsjslj. it was so crazy to see this in my inbox bc i actually had a really vivid dream about the guy that plays him after not having a dream about him for like two years.

but i've been into thg since i was a kid, i first read the books in 5th grade when they had the metallic shiny covers (i finished catching fire and started and finished mocking jay back to back during downtime at school, i used to read a lot faster) and i've watched the movie when they first came out (i'm excited for the new one). the first thg movie actually came out on my birthday so i'm very fond of it. (i went to see the rerelease in theaters too and i saw tbosas twice, i read a lot of thc fic on wattpad)

ANYWAY

favorite book: i'm gonna cheat a little since my fav when it comes to both the books and movies is tbosas but i wanna pick one from the main series too since tbosas wasn't a thing when i was a kid obviously. back then i really liked the first one the most and mockingjay was my least favorite. maybe it was bc i read it all in one sitting but the ending was kind of weird for me, like i didn't fw it fully. now i think that the first thg is still my favorite since i just really like the way thg is set up and how compelling katniss's pov is even from the beginning. i appreciate mockingjay more now but i think by comparison it's my least favorite (i bought the new one when it came out but i haven't read it yet so idk how it would factor in)

favorite movie: tbosas aside lmao, i think it's always been catching fire for me??? the first one is a strong adaptation imo but catching fire just tops it. finnick, johanna, katniss and peeta continuing their angst, haymitch, cinna, the whole vibe of it has always resonated with me more. it's like after the set up of the first one, we're getting into real shit now (the aftermath of the games, the escalation of the overarching plot, haymitch and effie divorced but still fucking truther, etc). i tend to like sequels a lot anyway because when a follow up to really interesting set up is done well, it's can be such a good movie/book and maybe even the best out of a given series. so ranking, tbosas > catching fire > thg > mockingjay part 1 > mockingjay part 2. the guy that plays seneca crane in thg is also from arkansas so i always mention that 😼

favorite character: katniss, finnick, and coriolanus. katniss is just one of the best protaginists period but i also relate to her a lot, she was a big comfort for me a kid bc we have similar personalities/family dynamics and i struggled to socialize. mean autistic rep. i was so happy her favorite color is green bc mine is and as a kid everybody i knew irl at that age HATED green. i also picked up the thing she does to ground herself where she states facts about herself, and that's actually been a huge help when i'm spiraling and i need to cope. i learned a lot from her tbh and i love how flawed she is and that who she is at her core doesn't really go away. just love love love love love her. finnick is one of the most compelling characters and sam clafin's portrayal is one of THE best ya boy portrayals of all time imo, i love his development and how much you come to care about him when he dies. how much of a presence he has even as more of a side character. coriolanus snow is on my list of best antagonists in books, especially ya (bc i read a lot when ya in general was kicking off but mainly the dystopian ya craze where tbh there was a lot of mid stuff being published). tbosas is so fascinating to read (i love his inner thoughts in the book like sknsaknkdnadsj) but also watch, he's so awful that you just want to like dig into him and even though you get to, there's still this feeling that there's aspects of him that are held back. suzanne really put both pussy lips into writing him, i no joke HATED white roses as a kid bc of him and told my mom i didn't want any in my wedding. the scene where katniss is supposed to kill him is just so fucking good like ugh. i'm attracted to characters i feel the need to psychoanalyze.

i think haymitch (again haven't read his book but i like him a lot), cinna, effie and lucy gray are all really strong characters too. i could yap about tbosas all on it's own and this isn't all of my thoughts about thg but i've rambled too much i'm SO sorry this is your intro to me. i'm so curious to hear your own favs as well!
