Vega Zaishi Wang (王在实) is the epitome of China’s new wave of fashion influencers: Chinese-born, with a cultivated vision drawn from education and experience abroad, and fueled by a fierce desire and patriotism to contribute to the creative landscape in the homeland. With stints at both Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood during her time in London, Wang is not one to shy away from technological innovation or a sense of fashion showmanship.

Not five years ago, the young womenswear design alumnus from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins, Vega Zaishi Wang, decided to pack her things and move back to the Middle Kingdom’s capital to set up her eponymous womenswear brand.

Wang’s collections are injected with her signature combination of purity of tone, exquisite hand-crafting and quiet charm, offering up masculine boxy shapes immaculately cut in rich, somber fabrics. Throughout her collections Wang stays true to her design aesthetic, which she describes is “like alchemy, mixing things up and creating something good.”

Working with small scale producers, Wang is precise about sourcing her fabrics and keeping production processes sustainable. Most of her products are hand-made with a majority of fabrics sourced from across Asia and Europe.

With her innovative vision and acute understanding of long-term brand building, Wang is, undoubtedly and deservingly so, the poster girl for cutting edge fashion design in China.
