Hummus with parsley, sun-dried tomatoes, sumac, and Aleppo pepper.
I really like hummus as a plant-based snack (or lunch!) that doesn't require any cooking. In this weather, anything that doesn't heat up the kitchen is my friend.
I used a basic hummus recipe (eyeballed most of the ingredients, but roughly like this), added parsley for flavor, and chopped up some sun-dried tomatoes I had leftover from this recipe for a topping. With some flatbread, it'll be lunch for a few days.
Note: I substitute cashew butter for tahini in my hummus because of a sesame allergy. It's not authentic hummus, but it's the closest I can get!

Welcome!
I created this blog to share recipes and ideas I'm making, as well as to document my ongoing quest to learn as much as I can about cooking. I'll share recipes I like, new cooking techniques or ingredients I've discovered, or even just ideas I want to try. While I don't follow any particular diet, I do try to cook according to the following principles:
Use natural, whole foods, especially ones I can get in season and/or locally. And a wide variety of them!
Incorporate ingredients that are part of an anti-inflammatory diet, especially lots of vegetables, fish, and nuts.
Minimize my reliance on ultra-processed foods.
Stay realistic... both to my budget and the time I have to work with. I would love to use entirely fresh, whole, organic foods and make my own bread, but both my husband and I work full time in a field that's not exactly lucrative. We make compromises and we do what we can.
Thanks for joining me!
