Amidst all the images coming out of palestine of death and destruction created by the zionist occupation, i think it is important that we take a moment to remember palestine as it was- seen and captured through the eyes of talented photographers like Shahed @shahednhall and remember exactly what was senselessly lost in the past few months.

This is Al-Azhar university, where Shahed used to study. She was an exemplary student, and used to get regularly invited by her teachers to give lectures.

Since the university was bombed and destroyed by the IOF, all she has left are these pictures. Even through all the violence and death around her though, she still makes sure to keep up with her studies through the university's online programme.

This is a shop Shahed had visited only some time before october. She told me it was run by an artist who painted these beautiful home items, and engraved them by hand with customers names. Shahed had photographed them because they were so eye-catching and beautiful, and had sent the woman her photos so she could use them to promote the shop.

Shahed has told me this shop isnt there any more. She is currently trying to get in touch with the woman who used to run this shop again, but shahed doesn't know if she is even alive or not.

Shahed has an eye for beauty in all things, and it shows in her work and in conversation. It has taken on a different meaning now when so much of everything she knows has been stolen by the occupation from her and other palestinians like her.

In her own words:

"As you know, I like to photograph a lot, everyone liked my photography. I was filming everything because a memory can never come back again. This sentence is not understood by many. I am happy because I photograph everything."

What had been a hobby of collecting moments for her has now become something of an archive of all the things in Palestine that have been lost to the zionist occupation.

Shahed's outlook on her photography tends to colour our conversation as well. She finds it is more productive to talk to me about her hope for a better future, rather than all the bleakness around her right now.

"Yes, because I see inside every picture of new hope, I feel a great motivation that I will survive to see that life is more beautiful than what I live at the moment. I seek to return to a life that is more beautiful than the one we live now, a very difficult life because it has turned black and white."

I don't know how anyone can look at her photos and think of anything but hope

The mainstream media in the west and elsewhere can lie all they like- but we will know always that palestine was and is a land full of beautiful people. Never forget that the death, illness and destruction in palestine today was something imposed upon them by the colonizers, and has been imposed upon them for decades.

Shahed doesn't like to share images of misery with me, but please remember that she and her family are suffering right now. The happy children in the pictures, her little sisters, are suffering from severe hepatitis and are no longer recieving treatment due to overcrowding at what hospitals are left in gaza. Shahed herself has been weak and ill for days, narrowly surviving multiple massacres in just the past few days while trying to get food for her family. They all got displaced just last week due to the intense bombing in khan younis, and in doing so have lost precious funds that could have gone into food and clean water. They are starving.

Shahed is only 21 years old but the responsibility of taking care of all 17 of her family members rests solely on her shoulders.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT. PLEASE HELP SHAHED EVACUATE HER FAMILY TO SAFETY.

She has only gotten $47k/80k, and she needs to get to $50k within this week.

Hey guys, posting this here in case anyone would be interested in helping out. Due to the recent storms in the philippines, parts of our house has been rotting away bc of leaks. Our house is 30 years old and mostly made of wood, n we've been slowly repairing it; but bc of the rising prices of everything.. it's been hard to keep up. Im sharing my tipping jar in Case anyone would like to send any of their disposable income. I know everyone else is having a very difficult time so I understand if I won't get much. If anyone at all has anything to spare I'd be eternally appreciative. I work three jobs, all of them are related to art, but one of them is very labor intensive and rely on a lot of crunch time.. I'd prefer to work for money but bc all three of my family members are disabled and I'm the only one who is physically and mentally able to work.. I'm not earning enough for my parents medical bills and my sister's tuition fees and meals plus now.. the repairs. So.. again, if anyone can spare anything, id be super grateful. I think old users will forget to tell you this because tumblr never randomly resets it like twitter does, so afaik literally everybody switched over to chrono as soon as they tried to introduce non-chrono, and then promptly forgot tumblr even has a non-chrono view. on tumblr we really dont do the “all mighty algorithm” thing.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF MALAYSIA NEEDS YOUR HELP

As Malaysia is still undergoing MCO, we see more news of Orang Asli of Peninsular Malaysia and the Indigenous people of Sarawak and Sabah losing their homes due to projects related to deforestation, logging, development and the like.

So, I decided to highlight a few organization/movement that would appreciate your swift support:

1. SAVE POS LANAI — a coalition pushing for the government to STOP the rare earth mining project that would not only harm our environment but also be stealing Orang Asli’s land. The forests and rivers of Pos Lanai are a life source for the Semai Orang Asli community, but over the years the forests and rivers have been repeatedly abused by agricultural activities in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. Now, the Semai Orang Asli are headed into a legal battle with the Pahang State Government. They are fighting for gazettement of their forests and home so that they have permanent protection.

Kampung Berengoi vs The YP Olio Sdn Bhd Plantation Project — When the Orang Asli of Kampung Berengoi in Malaysia signed a contract to receive new homes, what the illiterate villagers didn’t realise they were consenting to was a major logging project that would see hectares of forest on land they claim as indigenous chopped down. If the villagers were able to read the letter, they would have seen it stated that they “have no objection to development project on YP Olio’s land”, the nature of which was left unspecified. This showed how the Pahang government took advantage of the community’s illiteracy. Concerned groups are criticising the project for destroying habitats of endangered wildlife and displacing indigenous people. At least eight Orang Asli families, including Omar’s, live in two villages on the site.

3. Penang fishermen and marine biodiversity vs Penang South Reclamation project (PSR) — PSR is a massive reclamation project to create three islands off the southern coast of Penang island. This project would threaten a nesting ground of vulnerable Olive Ridley turtles and a marine biodiversity hotspot. This marine biodiversity hotspot would be destroyed by the PSR project to create three artificial islands for the development of condominiums. The project would also endanger the livelihoods of fishermen who have been fishing sustainably for generations. The project is expected to generate 3.2 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

It’s depressing how we all posted so much about an old church burning, me included, and most of us haven’t even heard of what’s going on in Sudan right now. I only learned about the situation recently, the international media coverage is lacking/almost non-existent, a media blackout is happening in Sudan and things are being censored while so many people were killed and hurt horribly or have gone missing. Let us all at least try and spread awareness about the #SudanMassacre.

What started as a peaceful protest turned into a massacre over the protesters.

Sudanese people are trying to overthrow the dictatorship and are being slaughtered for it.

This situation in Sudan makes me so so so so so mad and angry because they CUT OFF the Internet so people can’t say what’s happening there and they rely on US to be SAVED because they’re currently living a NIGHTMARE they can’t even go to the streets NORMALLY and they can’t do ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO INTERNET. THE SUDANESE PEOPLE RELY ON US. DO SOMETHING.
