every time i see a post about not using chatgpt or other LLMs for work/school that boils down to 'convenience is morally wrong and desiring it degrades the entire human race' rather than 'these things fabricate details and are not reliable tools for synthesizing information' i lose another year off of my life

Question for the people who actually have physical toy beyblades--are all launchers compatible with all beys, or do you need a different kind for right spinners and left spinners?

Woke up this morning with a very important thought rattling around in my head.
How do the cars in the 2006 Pixar masterpiece Cars... safely merge?
This is a question that requires analysis. It doesn't really matter for Lightning McQueen before the movie starts, as he explicitly spends all of his time either at the racetrack or inside Mack (the gay subtext of this is for another post), but if we imagine a normal, non-Piston Cup car, how in the blue hell do they merge?
It's flat-out stated during the "driving backwards" scene in the 2006 movie that cars can see their rearview mirrors. This is because, particularly for Mater's character design, his mirrors are always placed outside his field of vision. But the scene states that he must be able to use them, because the purpose of that scene is to set up Lightning driving backwards during the finale and to advance both of the characters, especially in bringing Lightning closer to Mater as a friend. Even with Mater's ability to articulate his side mirrors to a certain degree, he is never able to bend them forward enough to be able to cover his blindspot. Given where the cars eyes are fundamentally located, this leads me to the conclusion that these vehicles are capable of seeing out of their mirrors. While this raises terrifying questions about the structures of car anatomy, we're gonna completely ignore those implications in favor, instead of a minor question about driving on the highway.
Normally, when one is driving, they eliminate the problem of a blind spot by physically turning their head to look at it before they merge and physically see for themselves whether or not another vehicle occupies that space. But characters in Cars (2006) don't have an in-car mirror, so their blindspots should be the gap between the mirrors and their regular fields of view, and directly behind them.

This, of course, raises the question: if the world of Cars was designed and built for sentient cars, and they have such an obviously unsafe limitation, why is the world still designed in a way that would only be safe to humans who can physically turn their heads? That question, after what I can only describe as a bit of a fever dream, leads me to what I see as the only logical conclusion.
Cars can see out of their windows, too, but have evolved camouflage for those eyes so that their prey can't tell where they're looking.

Actually fanart and fanfic are often compared but the funniest point of comparison is how you express that you like it. Like it's pretty common and welcome praise to tell a writer they get the voice of a character perfectly or whatever but if you told a fanartist "this is great I can really tell this is that character" you would sound insane

So the wolf in the Shrek movies seems to identify as a man, and just happens to wear a pink dress as his outfit of choice. Meanwhile Doris the Ugly Stepsister is definitely a woman while having some masculine features. Then there’s Pinocchio who is unambiguously male (he celebrates becoming a “real boy”) but secretly wears womens’ underwear. And I know this was mainly done for cheap transphobic comedy but like. They’re all basically decent people who are on the heroes’ side and get to live happily ever after, so there’s not reason not to read it completely straight. The only person who shames the wolf for cross-dressing is Fairy Godmother, and she’s a villain so we’re meant to dislike her. Shrek’s extended friend group just contains a lot of genderqueer weirdos who are living their best life and I think that’s great.

Shrek 2, while a cinematic masterpiece, is also an interesting look at queerness and comp het.
Fiona is married so it's time to reunite with her parents. But instead of marrying a prince, she's married to an ogre. Not just that, but she's also an ogre. (Yes everyone knew she would sometimes be an ogre but that was when she was a child, she didn't know she would be an ogre for the rest of her life, and besides once she met the right prince she would stop being an ogre. She was supposed to stop being an ogre.)
But okay they're both ogres. We can still ask about when they'll have children because even if they're ogres they can still have kids, right? That's what married princes and princesses do so naturally that's what everyone does. Even if ogres might not be great parents (I've heard that ogres eat their young, is that something you people do?) it's still something that should be discussed.
And okay you can stay in Fiona's childhood bedroom filled with all the reminders that hey, everyone thought she was just a princess and princesses marry princes. Her toys left out from the last time she played with them. The prince slays the ogre. The princess offers a token of gratitude for slaying the ogre. Fiona wrote Mrs. Fiona Charming a million times in her diary because what else was she supposed to grow up to be?
And Harold, the Fairy Godmother says, you have to fix this, your kingdom can't be ruled by ogres. You were unfit to rule, to be loved, when you were a frog but I changed you, I made you better, I made you a prince. You know how this works. Think of your daughter's safety.
Shrek goes to the Fairy Godmother and oh honey, ogres don't live happily ever after. It's just not done. It hasn't happened in all of fairy tale history. You have to change the both of you to be happy. You have to present as a prince and a princess. It will be better. You'll fit in better that way. You'll be accepted that way.

I think "they don't even have X" is one of those memes that's actually funnier in its original context than in anything that's been done with it subsequently. Like, in its original context, this is a joke about a man who has lived his entire adult life alone in a swamp cold-reading the atmosphere of a corporate workplace and deciding that appealing to the receptionist's sense of working-class solidarity is going to get him in the door, and it fucking works.
