I stopped updating for a while because I was completely underwater, but the day has come. Romeo y Juliet is officially open and my work is done! I learned so much through this process, and am so happy with the result. There are many things I might do differently if I had a second chance but I am taking them as learning experiences. I kinda can’t believe I made it happen from start to finish.

Fitting #2 of Lady Capulet. It’s really coming together! I’m so happy everything is fitting so well, it’s super validating in a semester full of chaos.

She’s ready (enough) for her fitting… I’m suffering a bit from probably looking at this too much and overanalyzing it. If I squint and turn my head to the side I think I really like the progress I’ve made. Still so much finishing to do.

Are you going to C2E2??
Long story short, I’m going to my first Con! I’m not usually a cosplay maker, but I’ve always wanted to dip my toes in. I’ll be at C2E2 at the end of April more or less by myself (I’ll know a few people there but not a ton) and I’m looking for people who might want to meet up?
I’m making my first full cosplay as Vivi from One Piece, and I might have a closet cosplay or two for the other days. Let me know if you’re looking for a friend! Tips and tricks for a first timer are also very welcome!

The next step is so so many pleats. Hand draped and going to have to be hand stitched. I’ve never done anything like this so I’m super nervous about how the end result will look but I’m happy with the shape I’m getting and the silhouette etc… pray for my hands tho

Small updates on Lady Capulet. After what feels like 17 years of flat lining and rolling it’s starting to look like a real bodice!

Amungst it all I am also trying to work on a cosplay for a con in April. I’ve gotten a chance to work on it as part of an independent study so I’m trying to take my time and do everything right. I’m starting with a foundation garment as a base but I’m having so much trouble getting these cups to sit right on my body. Hopefully this round of alterations is the last. I’m also trying not to get lost the complicated feelings fitting this kind of garment is making me feel about my general shape 🫠 Any advice about lingerie bra cups or corsets is very welcome!!

Details of the suit I am fitting tomorrow. Corduroy was certainly a choice I made 🫠 It looks fine for now… I’m trying to rock with it.

🧡🩷 GROOVY BABY! 🩷🧡
This was my second ever foray into crochet and quite a bold project, both in color and scope. So, so many ends to weave in, and no set pattern for this one, though there are others online who have given recreating from the screen a go and who have been very helpful - see my Ko-Fi post (link in bio) for more details, including my attempt at writing it up.
Though definitely shagadelic, it's not perfect - l'd love to try blocking it to get some of the trim to sit with some more flounce but ran out of time before the event I wore it to. I may add a layer or two to the sleeves to make them more dramatically 60s flared, but for now, I'm thrilled!
I secured the dress to my shoulders with clutch fashion glue (not sponsored, just happy to have a product that works!) and it seemed to work a treat- can't wait to have a play with this some more, especially for temporary hemming and other fun textile work.

There’s something super satisfying about padstitching
This is all temporary so it’s on the bigger side, after the fitting it’ll be neater and smaller. Tailoring isn’t my forte but I’m enjoying this one.

Lady Capulet fitting for 1860s (ish) inspired production of Romeo and Juliet. It’s just a mock up but I’m super happy with the silhouette and the fit was really close. The designer chose to not have any of the performers corseted which is a unique challenge to get the shape we want without any sort of support underneath. This really couldn’t have gone any better though.
The black tape is to mark some more details I’ll drape on top of this foundation. I’m super excited to keep going! And to hopefully get to figure out some cartridge pleats in the skirt😅
