Album Of The Year: Butch Walker - Stay Gold If you haven't heard this album yet, find it. I've probably spun it 1,000 times at this point and I still can't get enough. @butchwalker #butchwalker #staygold #albumoftheyear #music #rock #rockandroll #album

It's always an honor to play music for someone's wedding - especially when you've been referred to the couple as a decent musician. (at Lord of Life Church - Ramsey, MN)

MOVING ON
It’s the end of an era for me. My trusty Epiphone acoustic finally broke after 12+ beautiful years of every day play.
The silver lining to this story is the fact that it was only a $100 guitar. I bought it before a trip to Florida knowing I had to play music on the beach for a church youth trip and I didn’t want to ruin my acoustic/electric I owned at the time. If it got crushed on the way to or from Florida, I was ok with it because it was so cheap.
Little did I know that it would become my every day guitar. The one I’d pick up every day after coming home from work. The one I’d use as an escape when I was stressed or depressed. The one I used to write and record 14 songs in the month of February in 2009. It’s the first instrument my son ever saw and “played”. A handful of people even walked down the aisle to the sound of this guitar. I still used it exclusively when we would do acoustic weeks at church. It was only $100 and meant to be a throw-away but it sounded fantastic considering how inexpensive it was. It’s definitely put out a lot of bang for its buck.
As a musician, you become accustomed to the instruments you use and they affect what and how you play. This instrument helped define me as a musician and songwriter. It was broken in to be played just the way I play and I knew every quirk, every buzz, every note. It sounds sappy but that relationship is gone forever. The give and take I had with it can never be duplicated by another instrument.
As difficult as it is to move on, I’m looking forward to whatever guitar will take its place. It’ll have its own quirks and issues and it will make me approach guitar a little bit differently. It will change how I play, how I write, and how I respond to the sounds it makes. I look forward to the challenge of finding that instrument and molding it while it molds me.

There are days when a beautiful melody rolls out of you like a runaway truck. Today is one of those days. :)

Hearing the new Shins song made me think about my love for this one. I truly believe this song has one of the most unique, interesting, and haunting melodies in modern music. I could listen to this song on end for days. Love the guitar. Love the way Dave Hernandez rocks a bass. Love the fact that these guys sound SO good live. Take five minutes of your time and listen to a song that deserves those few moments of your life.

I will be playing guitar for the 10:30 contemporary service at Lord of Life in Ramsey tomorrow morning. Come check it out if you like sloppy guitar playing and over-used compression pedals.
