Bella’s eyes grew wide as she realized he was talking about the dude just beside her; she raised her hand in surrender as some guys came into the crowd to take him– and her too, apparently. “C’mon! I swear I’m not with him! I just accepted the drink, I’ve no part in his wankerness!” She pleaded to Drew with a nervous smile.

Drew turned to his drummer, swinging his hand in front of his neck as he waited for the noise to die down. “Someone get this wanker out of here,” he pleaded into the mic, staring down the commotion in the crowd.

“Ooh, brownies.” Arista grinned as she followed the girl. Brownies were only second to ice cream, so the fact that she was about to have both was perfect. “Well, thanks. We’ll see if that’s still the case a few years from now. But you definitely can still pull off 21.”

“That’s the attitude!” Bella replied cheerily, already spotting the open doors of the parlor just a few blocks away. “You got it. I probably will just end up making one for myself too, Monday’s are our chill days; I could make you company while you eat if you’d like!” She offered as they stepped into the place; shooting Arista a coy smile before fixing the name tag on her shirt. “I’ll try for that not to get to my head; we’re forever young.” Bella replied as she hopped over the counter and opened her arms towards the ice cream tubs. “Welcome to my kingdom!”

“Well, thank you,” Arista chuckled, smiling at the compliment. “I will never turn down any kind of ice cream. So that would be great.” A genuine smile now, at the mention of the sundae bar. She laughed at the woman’s final words. “Hey, now, don’t tempt me. I might stop telling people I’m getting older.”

Bella grinned brightly, it was hard to imagine anyone refusing free ice cream but she still was happy the girl accepted. “Follow me! My shift’s about to start and I’ll make sure you’re getting the freshest brownies of the batch. I’m Bella, by the way.” She laughed along before pretending to zip her mouth shut. “I’m a small but mighty tomb. You should try it, though; you definitely have the face to get away with it for yeeeears. If anyone asks, I’m still 21.”

“Well, gorgeous, let me probably not be the first one to tell you that you’re aging like the finest of wines.” Bella winked at her before chuckling. “Happy birthday! I can get you a sweet deal at Saltwater if you’d like. All you can eat from the sundae bar and whatnot.” She grinned. “If it makes you feel any better, coming from someone that’s not a fan of growing up herself... time isn’t real. You might as well stay 25 or 26 forever. Who’s to rain on your parade?”

“I am officially 26,” Arista began. An uneasy smile was on her face. Birthdays were some of her harder days - days when she wished her mother was there to celebrate with her, too. “And I don’t know how to feel about being one year closer to 30.” She hoped that would be enough to keep anyone from asking why she wasn’t more excited. But then, she would always cheer right up and it would never seem like anything had been wrong in the first place.

“I’m gonna need one for me, one for Viv, for Jack, Peter, Sulley... and of course, you.” Bella tapped her finger against her lips as she pretended to mull over her purchase. “I’ll take half a varied dozen.” She talked as she patted her pockets down, pretending there wasn’t a sizable gift bag dangling from her other wrist. “Mind helping me with this?” She asked calmly, handing Gagdet the bag as she pretended to be very focused on finding her wallet within the confines of her jeans, but shooting a couple of glances towards the girl as to not miss her reaction to the presents (x) (x) (x) (x)

“Hi, it’s my birthday this weekend and I’d like to spend my own money for my party so can I interest you in buying a cupcake?”, Gadget asked the person passing by. “I made Marmite Caramel which sounds weird but is a mix of salty and sweet, Sweet Potato Cider with Marshmallow icing which was my grandpa’s favorite and the Gadget cupcake which is basically the cupcake version of chocolate coated strawberries.”

Jack chuckled, throwing his head back to look at her. “I’m pretty sure I can manage at this point, I think I’ve drawn you like a hundred times.” He commented happily. Bella would fit in perfectly with this collection. “And we can go get something to eat after, I’ve been standing around here trying to get people to let me draw them for hours.” He confessed with a grin.

“Do I hear a challenge? Do I need to give you more to work with?” The look Bella shot Jack was overflowing with exhilaration; she snuggled up to him as they walked and smiled, just him being there always put her in a great mood. “What’s this collection called?” She said, trying to calm down the sudden roaring of her stomach at the first mention of food. “Oh no no no no no. How about we get our fuel first? You can fill me in on the deetz before you continue with your genius work.” Bella raised a hand so she could mess with Jack’s hair. “Can’t let you starve. You know talent needs nutrients, bud!”

“It certainly sounds like something I’d say. But please do not spike my drink, even if I do ask you to. Which will probably happen. Viv admitted. “I need to keep my wits about me, there’s a lot of impromptu challenges and competitions there and I need to be able to show them who’s boss.” The brunette added confidently. “Okay, let me take the jacket off to loose some weight.” She said, taking off her heavy bomber jacker and placing Bella’s hands around her neck. “Here, I’ll carry you, it’s easier to fly that way.” She said happily, listening to her song. “Let’s fly on!” She screamed out as she carefully manoeuvred them out of the window. The Moon shone through the clouds, clouding them in a soft grey light as they headed for the park. The streets where luckily empty. 

“Does that give me a free pass to whack anyone that tries to steal your spotlight?” She wiggled her eyebrows and laughed. “I will spike a drink. But I won’t let you get a hold of it until the whole thing’s over, deal? It hurts me to say this, but I’ll behave and wait out until I can share it with you.” Bella perked up at that description of the competition; she was already on board with it only being a fairy beauty pageant, she was thrilled it could also be a chance for Viv to further establish how much of a gorgeous badass she was. “What kind of challenges? Ring of fire kind of thing? Cause let me tell you... mark me down as scared and horny.” Bella bit her lip as she carefully wrapped herself around Viv; it wasn’t certainly the first time they done this, but the takeoff always made her stomach fall to the ground in a mixture of joy and hey, we’re actually flying off a window here. “I just love this.” She sighed out as she admired the scenery, her chin finding its usual spot on Viv’s collarbone. “We should have a picnic just off the side of a cliff or something.”

Rory let out an uncomfortable chuckle. “I’ve never done laser tag before,” she admitted, softly scratching her head, “Is it fun?”

“I’ll be honored to be your first.” She giggled, already looking at her phone so she could sign them up for the next group. “Okay, we can be there in like half an hour...” Bella looked at Rory and grinned. “You find yourself in a gigantic dark room that’s like a maze– only lit up by pretty lights; with a bunch of other guys that want to get all the thrill of paintball without getting hurt. It is a blast!”

She laughed along with her, feeling more comfortable now. She nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. It feels like I’m… ‘d in the d’s’ a lot lately.”

“You know what you need?” Bella jumped out of her seat. “You need a change of pace. When was the last time you did something that would crash your planner if you wrote it down? Oh! How about laser tag?”

“Oh you know how much I love a good home reno,” Kiara smiled. She had spent hours watching Property Brothers and thought about how much better hardwood floors would look in the place anyways. “Good idea! They’ll never know what hit them,” Kiara grinned, clinking her bottle against Bella’s and taking a drink. She’d definitely need it for what was to come. “Now we just need to find the perfect suspect.”

“Let’s start on our show pitch after this. We’d make the hottest duo on tv and we would give real-life solutions to real-life problems... cause we’d have tested out each and every single one ourselves.” Bella actually got excited at the prospect, in all fairness, it was easy for her to get excited about any ideas involving Kiara, their minds just fit together like the ultimate puzzle of friendship and chaos. “How difficult would it be to blame that one bartender that tried to double charge our bill last time?” She nursed her wine with a joy comparable to sitting down after working a double shift at the parlor. “We could also pretend we just got here, scream like we thought it was blood and then just disappear into thin, winey air?

“Dance dance revolution, my favorite! It’s a deal.” Gadget stayed silent for a while then because her focus was on the game that she was playing. She only paused it when she felt like her hands hurt, and that’s when she looked at Boo again. “I’m very grateful that I don’t have to.” She smiled back. “I tried doing that once and the weights made it hard for me to want to come back. I did enjoy running on the treadmill though and using the yoga ball too! Can you go to the gym with me one day? Or maybe we can do one of those home workouts! It’s quite fun.”

“Do you think we could break our record from last time? I’m sure not two other pairs of feet have been able to match our routine.” Bella mused, eating her popcorn as she watched Gadget crush the game. “That’s my girl, one more level and you reclaim your title as ultimate game crusher, don’t you?” She added happily, grinning at Gadget. “I’d love to spot you! You can drag me around to it whenever, as long as I can be spared from any ab work– that’s literally the work of the devil himself.” She shuddered at the memories, it took her a bit to imagine what it’d be like to work at any of their rooms. “Really? Don’t you end up jump-smacking something out of your shelves?”

Peter, confused, attempted to clarify their conversation. “Are you asking who I think would beat a pirate in a fight?” He stopped to think, but only for a moment. “Superheroes, obviously.”

“In a fight to the death or like... the box office.” She replied with a little shrug. There was a part of her that was expecting his answer and yet, she had no way of contradicting it. “I’m gonna have to give this to you on one condition... they’d be totally lost without Scott Lang’s hotness, Wade Wilson’s whole personality, and the overall existence of Selina Kyle.”

Kiara laughed at her friend’s suggestion. “Y’know, I think pink would look pretty nice with the walls,” she shook her head, “But that would be way too easy to get caught. Does club soda actually work? I thought that was like a bad Five Minute Crafts hack that makes it worse.” She caught Bella’s hand before she could put the wine back. “Wait, we’ll definitely need this for moral support if we’re gonna try and get the stain out.”

“Right? See, with wine, every disaster can be turned into a work of art. Let’s tap into our Property Brothers mindset and turn this around!” She laughed before biting her lip in thought, remembering she had actually seen that trick in an Instagram story some while back. “You might be right... ooooor we could always throw another rug over it or a nice plant?” Bella started looking all over the room for a movable thing when Kiara’s words got to her. “This is why you’re my girl.” She smirked, handing one of the bottles to her so they could toast together. “Cheers! To pinning this on the next sucker that walks into the room!”

“No, no. I’m asking you!” She laughed out. “If you don’t like pirates that much, for you, what kicks their asses?” Bella said, genuinely curious.

“Hopefully, I won’t use much of it so that you can play too! I promise that I’ll be your teammate in every game that you need me to be after this.” Gadget took enough coins that she needed to start one game. “What would I do with you?”, she asked in a joking manner but she meant it. It was friends like Bella that helped her get out of a funk whenever she was in one. Leaning into the hug that she was suddenly in, she smiled. “We both are.”, she corrected the brunette. “And no, you can’t tell me that it’s impossible for two people to be the best. It isn’t. Anyway, yay! Mr. Belly will finally have a friend.” As if she did not have enough stuffed toys already. The way she sees it, there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to that. “What’s that?”

“Hey, I’m good with being your pocket cheerleader for the evening. As long as we get to play some DDR or Air Hockey at some point, I’m all set!” She nodded her head and smiled brightly. “Gadget, there’s no alternate universe in which a you isn’t forced to deal with a me, you’ll never have to find out.” Bella replied, sure of herself and feeling her heart feel with joy for getting to spend the afternoon with her dearest friend. “Fine. We’re both out of this freaking world and our plush buddies are our partners in awesome crime.” She giggled out that last part, clearing her throat before answering the question. “The balance between exercise and eating non-healthy stuff. You go to the gym and then you’re entitled to your ñam-ñam.”

“Just one but still! Whoever pacmanlover is, they are good but I am going to try my best to be better.” And if Gadget did not achieve that today, there was a possibility that she would come back on the weekend to do so. She laughed upon seeing the pout on her friend’s face. “That is fair. I’ll give you all the tickets that I win today so that you finally can get your giant kitty.” She shook her head at the snack that she was offered. “No, thank you. I’m trying to be more healthy.”

“Damn right you will, babe! You just let me know when you need a refill on those tokens–” Bella lightly tapped the small, plastic container with the coins over on the machine. “I’ll be gone and back faster than you can say damn you pacmanlover damn you and all you stand for.” She clapped excitedly before giving Gadget a hug from the back that would keep the other girl’s arms free. “Who’s the best? You’re the best. We can keep shared custody of him as we do over Mr. Belly.” As Gadget responded, Bella couldn’t help but let a popcorn fall out from her mouth... she then laughed and shrugged. “Fine, more for me! You should really try the gym and ñam approach, though, highly recommended by yours truly.”

Peter nodded, his smile growing wider at the thought. He jumped up to follow her, stretching his arms into the air once he was standing. He laughed. “Okay, okay. I’m not a big fan of pirates. But I’d do anything for Orlando Bloom.”

“That makes two of us, man.” She sighed happily, thinking it’d be a good idea to mimic him and stretch a little before going off into a thirst sprint. “How about we swing by the store to get some snacks and– woah, hold on. What’s better than pirates?”
