So glad I’m finally able to post this! I just had an amazing coffee date with hozier after winning a competition with bewleys where me and the other winners got to ask him some questions and talk about various topics, from writing lyrics to coping with the pandemic.
He’s one of my absolute favourite artists and I was thrilled to get to create a gift painting he could see himself. 🌹
Thanks again Bewleys for hosting, Hozier for participating, as well as Ian Dempsey for coordinating the event!
So I got to have a virtual coffee date with Hozier alongside some other winners of the competition! Here were some highlights-
- the most intimidating moment of his career was collaborating with Mavis Staples, who he considers one of the greatest musicians of all time
- he said how unreal it felt to work with a woman who knew Nina Simone and MLK personally and how we need to stop seeing the civil rights movement as ancient history
- his favorite musicians nobody expects him to like are miley cyrus, doja cat, and nicki minaj
- he hasn’t been very creative during the pandemic and he says he hates how there’s pressure to be productive when it’s extremely stressful to not know what’s going to happen in the future
- he’s made some quarantine songs but he was laughing and saying and nobody probably wants to hear anything that depressing right now shshdhsjsgjaka
I cant believe i got to paint local bog king hozier with willow branches for hair for class. i tried a looser painting technique and i really loved it. also did you know that the little willow puffs are called catkins? because i CERTAINLY did not
