I completely forgot to post this in spring, ngl Loved doing this one because I've never really drawn from a reference that is stylized and not a realistic face. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well the style merged with mine

Hamish Linklater - Father Paul
Anybody following me on my main blog will know by now how severly obsessed I've been with this damn show for the past 2 weeks. It's been a great ride so far, I've infected several other people, plan to keep on rewatching it until eternity.
(also: the process of making this has really been less than ideal - the reference pic was dark and blurry and small because there just wasn't anything light and focused and big to be found, but I made due)

Simon & Baz | Any Way The Wind Blows
I am hella excited for this book but unfortunately also very uncreative, so drawing this (beautiful!) cover art in my own style is the best I can do, I’m afraid. I’m a copying machine, I’m sorry.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Buffy Summers
I was really missing a buffy drawing to go with the spike drawing I finally hung up. Which I did, because I actually got it signed (!!!) a couple of years ago, but was for some reason still hiding it away in a binder. It’s on my wall now, reminding me of the time I met James Marsters every day, along with this one. I just needed them together.
To the girl who saved the world. A lot.

Aidan Turner - John Mitchell
I actually drew this a couple of weeks ago but somehow never uploaded it. Anyway, here comes a redraw of my by now very old Mitchell drawing from, I don’t know ... 2013? That one was still in charcoal, my god. It’s not actually a redraw, I know, I used a completely different reference picture. I don’t usually draw people twice though so it counts for me.
In his case it was entirely necessary and well deserved.

Damien Molony - Hal Yorke
This was WAY overdue. Like, about 6 years overdue. I have loved Hal forever for being odd and anxiety ridden and just generally relatable for someone on the autism spectrum (at least he is to me).

Lucifer & Chloe
I've been on a 3 week long Lucifer binge now with no end in sight. Season 4 was the best thing on tv for a long long time so here is me PRAYING for Season 5 because if it's not happening, that is the most tragic ending in the history of tv shows.

I decided to try something completely new for december (in my bullet journal). I’ve never drawn a portrait like that before, but I think it worked quite well. I only used the pen you can see in the pic, and a 0.05 version. Maybe I’ll keep that up for the months to come.

This took me pretty much exactly one season of the americans. If you’ve watched it - let’s cry over Paiges shitty life together! If not - go go go and have fun with Martha, too. This is a lot smaller than usually, DIN A5. I need some training with such small drawings, I had actually never done that before.

Something a bit different today: I’ve got a bullet journal to keep my life in order and just designed my march title page. I’m trying to find a Harry Potter theme based on something that happened in one of the books each month and this time it’s Hagrids nifflers in book 4. I was so surprised by how well i think it turned out, i felt line sharing it. Done using a Staedtler pigment liner 0.2 and a Copic multiliner 0.05.

hey! I was wondering how long it took you to achieve that realism in drawing and how long one piece usually takes ! :) I really like them and I’d like to be able to one day get there too :)
Oh, thank you so much for the compliment! It’s really hard to tell how long a picture takes me, because it varies a lot depending on many things, like how difficult and how much of hair there is, how big I draw the face, how much of the clothes I draw, how well the reference picture turns out to work. The drawing of Ruth Negga is, for example, about half as big as Matthew Goode. Matthew I drew for 6 days, every morning and every night about 2-3 hours each, give or take. But I was watching loads of films and tv shows while drawing, so sometimes I would just sit there and watch. ;) It happens that I draw it out for several weeks though, because I have less time or enthusiasm. But it’s definitely not done in a day anymore (it used to be). And about getting there too ... you really just gotta practice. It sounds so stupid, but that’s what did and still does it for me. You have to find what process works for you (like, I for example would be lost without a ruler to measure everything and I never sketch everything before, I just measure it and find out where the eye needs to go, then start there) and maybe try out different techniques or mediums as well (I used to draw with pencils, then switched to charcoal, got better and in the end went back to pencils). And then you just gotta start. The main thing I noticed, that changed for me over time, was not so much my hand or my skill but my attention to detail. I invested more time, looked at it more closely, noticed things in the reference pic I wouldn’t have seen before. So for me patience is very important too. All the best to you and your art and thank you!
