I made a Jigsaw Puzzle! 🧩 🥳🥹 Excited to FINALLY share what I’ve been working on for the past few months. My vision was to make one that felt premium, almost a collectible work of art in its own. I ended up fully customising everything from the textured box with gold-foil details, to the soft-touch finish the puzzle pieces themselves!

Random headcanon: the reason that Peach and Bowser don’t seem to get a lot of respect in some Super Mario games is because the Mushroom Kingdom is kind of a rural backwater and isn’t terribly important or influential politically, so people tend to regard Bowser as a C-list villain for being so hung up on such an insignificant conquest. Nobody really expects Bowser to be a serious threat – that would be like expecting a guy whose main claim to fame is repeatedly failing to conquer Wyoming to be a serious threat – so they get taken by surprise every single time.

I just started grad school this fall after a few years away from school and man I did not realize how dire the AI/LLM situation is in universities now. In the past few weeks:

I chatted with a classmate about how it was going to be a tight timeline on a project for a programming class. He responded "Yeah, at least if we run short on time, we can just ask chatGPT to finish it for us"

One of my professors pulled up chatGPT on the screen to show us how it can sometimes do our homework problems for us and showed how she thanks it after asking it questions "in case it takes over some day."

I asked one of my TAs in a math class to explain how a piece of code he had written worked in an assignment. He looked at it for about 15 seconds then went "I don't know, ask chatGPT"

A student in my math group insisted he was right on an answer to a problem. When I asked where he got that info, he sent me a screenshot of Google gemini giving just blatantly wrong info. He still insisted he was right when I pointed this out and refused to click into any of the actual web pages.

A different student in my math class told me he pays $20 per month for the "computational" version of chatGPT, which he uses for all of his classes and PhD research. The computational version is worth it, he says, because it is wrong "less often". He uses chatGPT for all his homework and can't figure out why he's struggling on exams.

There's a lot more, but it's really making me feel crazy. Even if it was right 100% of the time, why are you paying thousands of dollars to go to school and learn if you're just going to plug everything into a computer whenever you're asked to think??

my hottest take on the internet in 2024 is that it's actually fine for art to be problematic. not everything has to make us comfortable or have good politics. it's okay for things to be edgy and offensive and in poor taste. it's okay to disagree with something being expressed on a page or a screen, whether it's the view of the character or even the weird view of the author. it's fine to engage with stuff you disagree with and it doesn't make you a bad person.

nothing compares to the calendar on this site. flat fuck friday. the halloween post that always shows up mid july. you see four anime girls and immediately know what day of the week it is. on the ides of march we all wake up and clown on some guy who got stabbed two thousand years ago. last week we celebrated down with cis day. legit my dad was like “i really don’t like the concept of abortion and i wish it didn’t exist, but i’m not about to act like it’s my call” and then i pointed out “the entire concept of outlawing abortion is saying the government has more right over your body parts than you do and has the legal precedent required to take one of your kidneys at any time so long as there’s a single person in need of a kidney transplant” and he suddenly went extremely pro-choice so that’s an argument that never fails
