The majority of these short-term memories are rapidly lost, but when a task isn't finished, our brains repeatedly practise it to keep the memory active. In essence, we are forced to torment ourselves by repeatedly recalling unfinished tasks in order to maintain them in our short-term memory. Our minds won't stop till the task is completed. Everyone, from your mother to your mentor, has an opinion on the ideal approach to change employment. But how do you know who to believe? Especially since what was true in the labour market 20 years ago — or even two years ago — is not always true now. And the market is always shifting. Consider the power relationship that exists between candidates and employers. Though it varies by industry and location and is affected by the state of the economy, analysts have termed the present labour market as "candidate-driven" in recent years. It appears that job searchers have greater influence than employers. So, when it comes to changing employment, do you have the upper hand? No, not always. This is a popular item of conventional wisdom that is simply no longer true. First and foremost, it is not always feasible. "There are numerous situations when you need to leave your job with nothing else," Fernández-Aráoz explains. You may need to relocate due to your spouse's job or leave to care for a family member. Second, short-term assignments are no longer detrimental to a résumé. Employers are becoming more accepting of short-term contracts. As many as 32% of employers anticipate job-hopping.
