iridanus:
“Get in here,” she said and grabbed him by the wrist, pulling him into the chapel proper. “Gabriel Lorca, I formally offer you sanctuary in Chapel Augusta of the USS Discovery for forty days, until which you have to decide whether to surrender to the authorities or go into exile at the nearest point of call, except you totally don’t because those rules were abolished in the 17th century. This will last exactly as long as the security team respects me enough not to bust the doors open.”
Ere took a deep breath and a sip of water. “You can stay here until Captain Saru manages to call off the brass. If you’re so hell-bent on being punished for crimes you didn’t commit, though… you’re welcome to leave.”
When she pulled on his arm, Gabriel went- far too surprised to resist even though he could’ve overpowered her if he’d been prepared. It might’ve hurt her though and that was the very last thing Gabriel wanted to do. She’d been so kind to him since his return.
“Thank you, Reverend,” Gabriel tells her honestly, settling down in one of the pews. It’s perfectly possible the security team will come in after him anyways, but he doesn’t think they will. Their Chief Security Officer had looked especially haunted by Gabriel’s return and he doesn’t want to push it. “It’s not that...” god, what can he even say? “The situation is complicated. And it always looks better if there’s a scapegoat. It helps assure the public that they’re safe and taken care of.” Even if they weren’t.

lightxart:
{Starter for @quimulti }
It started as a low hum.
Aliah had been on the surface of her planet, Tu'aran, collecting samples of fauna for her mentor’s studies when she heard it. A hum emitnating from far away. Her ears pricked towards the unfamiliar vibrations and as quickly as she could, she took to the trees for cover.
It was not safe for her people to venture towards the surface. If the Old Ones had ever returned, it might mean the return of the war, or much worse. Aliah had forgotten her cloaker, that which masked her people’s life signatures should they ever venture to the surface. Her people might have been safe from detection, but should this be the return of the Old Ones, she was not.
The planet was supposed to be uninhabited. The first thing Gabriel had learned about this universe was that the Federation tended to run into the most trouble on planets it thought was uninhabited. And with the war going on, Gabe was able to convince everyone they always needed to have phasers on them. He didn’t think there’d be Klingons, but you never know when you need to intimidate the locals. He didn’t recognize the planet from the Emperor’s collection, but he hadn’t visited every planet either. They’d probably colonized it and subjugated it years ago, where he came from.
All in all, there were four officers plus him. Most of them security. “Fan out,” Gabriel ordered, “pairs of two. Get your samples and beam back as quickly as possible.”
“Sir!” One of the scientist said, staring at his scanner, “we’re getting weird life readings.”
Just when you think there won’t be Klingons...Gabe draws his phaser. “Klingons?”
“I don’t think so,” the scientist admitted, “but they’re just over there.” He gestures with his hand and Gabe motions for the others to follow him as he creeps into the woods.

jump-one-three-three:
@blindedbyburan
Gabriel ducked against the wall. Wherever he was, this was not his ship. Have I been pulled in by a Klingon ship? The ion storm had knocked out his shuttle’s sensors and he had found himself in a dimmly lit cargo bay.
He didn’t have a weapon and he carefully peaked around stacks of boxes before turning corners. As he looked to see if the fourth turn was safe he saw Myself? That can’t be right. Must be the lighting
When one went to check out a new lifesign aboard your ship, one always went armed. It was a lesson one learned early in their life in the Terran Empire. Besides, he’d hate to be late to dinner with his Commander, such small things could be perceived as a weakness.
The cargo bay was one of many- the Buran might be a ship of war but in war one always needed supplies. Gabriel didn’t bother with the lights, but they were there- just in case a slave was granted access and didn’t have the eyesight of a Terran. He saw movement, but wasn’t able to identify it and grinned. Something thought they could get the best of him? He who was allowed access to the Terran Emperor’s only daughter? Some might even called him beloved by the Emperor.
“Come out!” Gabriel ordered, phaser trained on where he’d seen the movement. “Come out and I won’t shoot.” A blatant lie, Gabriel fully intended to shoot whoever it was.

iridanus:
“They apologized, and I told them it was fine,” she said, not mentioning to the Uratani that the captain was still bitter for obvious reasons. “Forgiveness usually requires regret, that’s the whole point of the sacrament of confession. But the Klingons aren’t showing a ton of regret, so here we are.”
“They’ve got some good sayings, too. ‘The honest doorway shall not be deceived’, ‘For everything you commit unto a circle, you dishonor your great-aunt’,” Ere paused and then cracked up at the next note on her padd.
“A fish is not a utensil.”
“The first is not a utensil?” Gabriel asked, shaking his head. “I really don’t want to know. If we ever go back, I’m not inviting you.” He frowned, no- that wasn’t quite bad enough. Then he grinned. “No, no, you can be or official liaison with them. And you can figure out what they meant. I expect a full report on ‘For everything you commit unto a circle, you dishonor your great-aunt.’ I’m in luck- I don’t have a great-aunt. When can I be sprung?” He hates being immobile, he hates sickbay. He already wants to be out.

Post the Klingon War, Gabriel has no plans. Or rather, he’s hoping he doesn’t survive the Klingon War so he doesn’t have to act on the half baked plans that he does have. Because what is acceptable during war becomes unacceptable during peace time, and he gets that. He was what Starfleet saw as necessary during war but once that’s over...they won’t want him anymore.
So if he survives, he knows he and the Discovery will be recalled to Earth. And he plans on writing each and every one of his crew a glowing review before he...does something. He doesn’t know yet. Some days, it seems like a good idea to steal a shuttle before they hit space dock, slip through the fine cracks of the Federation’s boarders and become a deserter. Starfleet will be able to work the story, he’s sure. It’s easy to spin a tale that makes Starfleet and the Federation look good when he’s supposedly crazy. He could also go with the rest of crew to Earth. Accept the ‘suggested’ retirement with grace, but he wouldn’t know what to do.
He’s been in Starfleet since he was 16. This is his life. The thought of leaving it makes him ill. So obviously, the best solution is somehow dying before that happens.
