When you think about it, Kris seems to be somewhat closer to Berdly than their other classmates. They value Noelle obviously, but they've been a little distant in recent years. While Susie is their BESTIE now, it's only been a very recent development. Catti is somewhat close to them, but much like Noelle they've been distant in recent years, and are only growing farther apart since hanging out with Susie. They seem to be on fairly neutral grounds with Jockington and Temmie, and borderline negative with Snowdrake and Monster Kid. At the very least, Kris is on good enough terms with Berdly, since they apparently still play games together.

Even after pranking them into deleting Minecrap, they helped them reinstall it, and even started a server with them. Honestly, just casual gamer friend behavior.

Another thing I liked to consider is that Kris usually makes it blatantly obvious when they don't want to talk to someone, or read something.

And of course in the Snowgrave route, one of the first things Kris does when they get their autonomy back is to go bring Berdly to the hospital; something that his parents couldn't even be bothered to do. When you interact with Berdly in the hospital, Kris turns up the heater without our input. Kris cares about them to at least a small level.

I kind of like to think that Kris prefers to hang out with people who challenge them at some level. Susie doesn't sugar coat things, and isn't afraid to take the occasional jab at them. Berdly is similar in a sense, as evidenced by his incredibly one sided rivalry with them and his constant need to be better at everything. Truly I feel like the only thing keeping them from being true friends is Berdly's ego and pride. It's definitely starting to crack, and he's at least considering the possibility of being real friends. To put it as Berdly would put it; He's gone tsundere for Kris.

If I'm being real , I feel like people are projecting their own feelings about Berdly onto Kris, who seems indifferent at worst, and calling it canon. You could argue I'm doing the same, which... yeah fair, but I still think it's safe to say Kris doesn't outright hate him. You can't tell me they don't vibe with him on some level.
