genderbend, female courtesan Binghe/rich merchant Shen Yuan, prompt: gold digger
Luo Binghe recently decided to change her occupation (to first wife).
~
The door swung open and a group of young men entered.
Luo Binghe looked up from her qin and looked at them closely. They were rowdy, laughing loudly and jostling each other. They also wore the signature robes of the local university. Students, she thought snidely and turned back to the instrument.
Still, they carried the fresh evening breeze with them and Luo Binghe breathed in deeply, grateful for the respite from the sweltering heat of the entertainment house.
But, when the door was about to close, two more men followed the group of students inside. Despite their comparatively quiet demeanour, they caught Luo Binghe’s attention.
A short, chubby man with fluffy hair flitted around another, not much taller man, gesticulating with sharp, quick movements. Luo Binghe couldn’t hear what he was saying but it seemed to be very important, going by his vigour. His companion was calmer; he looked to be around thirty years old, maybe older, and wore stately robes of high quality.
Increasingly interested, Luo Binghe stretched her neck to get a better look.
The calmer man’s long hair was shiny and partly bound back. His face wasn’t much to speak of, the kind you forgot as soon as you looked away, but what arrested Luo Binghe’s attention were his dark, intelligent eyes, carefully taking in his surroundings. However, they kept returning to his companion, sparking with amusement or annoyance by turns.
It were his eyes that gave Binghe the idea to try and catch his attention. It was his obvious wealth that solidified the decision.
Even though the piece she was playing had not yet come to its end, she waited for a lull in the melody and switched to another one, a slow, drawling thing of a song. After a few beats, she started to sing along quietly.
The melody wound itself under the chatter in the room, all the way to the strange man that Luo Binghe wanted to reach.
But more preparation was necessary.
With a quick motion, she shook out her hands so her sleeves slid up and bent her head, exposing her bare nape to anyone looking.
From the corner of her eyes, Luo Binghe watched the man slowly make his way across the room. Before long, an attendant caught the two men and greeted them, bowing and speaking in a quiet voice.
Seat them in this room, Binghe pleaded silently. Seat them at a table with a good view.
Luck wasn't on her side. It became clear very quickly that the attendant was leading them towards one of the other rooms, deeper inside the building.
Even though she was internally cursing, Luo Binghe managed to keep her calm. It was a good thing too because, when the two walked past her, the man looked around the room again and this time, his eyes caught on her.
Through her eyelashes, she watched as his gaze wandered over her hair, to her bare nape, to her wrists and hands that were skillfully plucking at the strings, back up to her face. It lingered there for a long moment before he was startled out of his reverie by another patron brushing by him and obstructing his view.
Got you, she thought.
Satisfaction fueled her determination as he walked through the door, deeper into the house. If luck wasn't on her side, then Binghe would just have to take fate into her own hands.
She had to wait until one of the girls she knew was working the room that night was passing by her to get refreshments. Binghe stopped her when she walked by her table.
"Hey," she said, and Xiao Xin stopped in her tracks to turn back with raised eyebrows. "Are there two men in your room, both short, one with his hair in a fluffy bun, the other in dark green robes?"
The girl had to think about it for a moment and Luo Binghe felt a spark of annoyance. Shallow, to not notice someone with so much potential just because he wasn't as loud or handsome as the other patrons.
She swallowed her anger down. The better for her, if no one else noticed the man.
"Yes, I suppose so," Xiao Xin finally said.
"I'll give you three silver pieces if you switch with me."
Xiao Xin snorted disbelievingly. "Really? Why?"
Binghe resisted the urge to kick the table in frustration. "The men are friends. I want to talk to them. Do me the favour."
She looked at the tray in her hands. "I'm not sure…"
Her patience coming to an end, Binghe stood and took the tray out of her hands, taking care not to knock the empty dishes on it down. When she was holding it securely, she gave the girl a thin smile and said: "Don't worry, I'll take care of it. I'll give you the money when we go to bed, alright?"
After a moment, Xiao Xin went to sit down at the guqin and Binghe hurried into the kitchen.
With her skill and the time pressure on her, it didn't take long until she was done and came out of the kitchen again, a tray in her hand that had a suspiciously voluminous bottom.
As she wound her way through the guests, she caught sight of another person that would inadvertently be able to help her.
“Hey, did you hear?” Binghe said, sidling up to the other courtesan. “That little guy in room two, they say he’s the son of a high-ranking official.”
At that, Mo Ling set the brush she had been using on her hair aside and looked up. “Who says that?”
Binghe lowered her voice conspiratorially, “I heard two of the others talking after he came in. They saw him hide away his ring. It looked suspiciously like the seal of the Shang family.”
Mo Ling’s eyes widened. “Shang like-”
Binghe smiled. “It’s the one sitting next to the man in dark green robes. Fluffy bun, round cheeks, can’t miss him- just in case you were wondering.”
Without another word, she was off and Luo Binghe continued on.
In the room, the exact same thing she had anticipated happened. The arrival of food made the students sitting at the big table perk up and in under a minute, the tray was empty.
It was then that the students’ attention returned to the women sitting in their midst, entertaining them with conversation and music. Luo Binghe took the chance to escape, sneakily removed the fake bottom of the tray, and went over to the table where her unaware target was seated.
Before she took more than a few steps towards them, Mo Ling suddenly approached the table, considered the men sharply, and immediately started to speak to the shorter one, tugging at his sleeve. He looked back at his companion and shrugged as though to say, "What can you do?" Then, he let her lead him away.
Her target was left behind at the table, looking a bit put out.
Time to strike.
With a graceful swish of her robes, Binghe sank to her knees beside him. “Terribly sorry to bother gongzi,” she started and the man looked at her surprised. Binghe ducked her head shyly. “Xiao Xin had to take care of something and this Binghe came to take care of gongzi instead. I hope he’s not too disappointed?”
She watched as he took her in for a second before visibly recognizing her, his eyes lighting up. He was happy about the replacement.
“Yes,” he said and did a nervous little movement with his hand. “That is, no, not disappointed. Ah, what did you say your name was again?”
A bit more secure, Binghe relaxed her shoulders and smiled wider. “Luo Binghe, but gongzi can call me Binghe if he’d like.”
“Then, please call me Shen Yuan.”
“Shen Yuan,” Binghe repeated softly. A faint flush spread over his face. “I wonder how I might serve you today, Shen Yuan?”
The flush grew more pronounced. “Serv- I mean, I’m sure whatever Binghe chooses will be delightful.”
With a slight shift of her hand, Binghe carefully tugged the tray closer. “Of course,” she said, “I could play music or recite poetry for you. But, if you truly mean it when you say ‘whatever I choose’, might you be willing to do me a small favour?”
He blinked at her. “Ah? Well, I suppose.”
Binghe lowered her eyes. “It’s a little bit of an unusual thing. Shameful even, some might say. If you want me to tell you, you have to promise not to laugh.”
“I promise,” Shen Yuan said slowly.
At that, Binghe pulled the tray onto the table before them and unveiled the meticulously arranged dishes on it. “In my free time, I like to cook. I know, I know,” she quickly said, “it’s not very appropriate for a courtesan, but when I saw Shen Yuan enter the house, I thought that he looked very kind. That, maybe, he wouldn’t laugh at me if I asked him to try my cooking.” She looked up at him pleadingly. “I don’t dare ask the other courtesans, but I’ve never had someone to taste my cooking before and tell me their honest opinion. Would you do me the favour?”
“Of course,” Shen Yuan said soothingly. “I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed of! Naturally, I will try your cooking. I’m sure it’ll be lovely.”
Binghe moved the dishes closer to him in invitation and watched as he put a bit of everything onto his plate. Obviously, she knew that her cooking was without flaw. No matter who it was that got lucky enough to try it, their eyes began to shine after just one bite and even people who Binghe had offended before would suddenly forget their dislike of her.
Shen Yuan didn’t prove to be the exception. As soon as he tasted the food, the usual effusive praise began and the dishes cleared up very quickly.
“Absolutely delightful,” Shen Yuan reassured her again as he pushed away his empty bowl. “I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything this good!”
“Shen Yuan is too kind to me.” Binghe scooted a little closer to him. “Still, I feel like I have awfully neglected my duties. Please, tell me about yourself,” she said, lightly touching his arm.
“W-well,” Shen Yuan stuttered before catching himself and squaring his shoulders. “I work together with my father in managing the factories we own. I will inherit them one day but right now, I-”
“Oh, no no,” Binghe interrupted him, although a greedy sense of victory burned brightly in her chest. She tugged at his sleeve and smiled coquettishly. “I meant, I want to know about you. What do you like to do in your free time? What are your passions, Shen Yuan?”
Shen Yuan laughed awkwardly, carefully drawing his sleeve out of her grasp. Binghe’s hand twitched in the absence, but she quickly curled it in her lap. “My passions really aren’t anything special,” he said.
“Somehow I doubt that,” Binghe laughed quietly. “Won’t Shen Yuan indulge me? I trusted him with my own eccentric passion; a secret for a secret?”
He visibly fought with himself for a moment before shrugging with a slight grimace. “It’s honestly not that interesting. But if you really want to know… I like to read novels.”
She blinked at him. All that reluctance for something like this?
“Bad novels, in particular,” he elaborated. “Horrible novels, even. The more terribly written they are, the better.”
Unbidden, the memory of a book she had seen on the bed of another courtesan came to her mind. “Like ‘The Lord’s Secret Flower’?”
At that, Shen Yuan looked at her with wide eyes. Then, he gave a startled laugh. “Yes- Yes, exactly like that. Do you… read things like that too?”
At the hopeful look in his eyes, Binghe took great care to suppress the snort wanting to break free. What she couldn’t suppress was the way her lips curled into a sly smile. “Sure, sometimes,” she laughed. “Although I prefer listening to people tell me stories, to be honest.”
Shen Yuan wrung his hands nervously. “Would you like me to tell you about one of them?”
“Shen Yuan,” she said and leaned closer to look up at him with glittering eyes, “I want you to tell me all about it.”

Bingyuan, Sy transmigrated into a wife, post "Bingge vs Bingmei extra" Bingge
Prompt: arranged marriage
---
Shen Yuan was admittedly a little nervous.
It was one thing to transmigrate into a woman. It was another thing to transmigrate into a woman who was being married off to Luo Binghe for political advantage.
His "father" was the leader of the last rebel group of cultivators fighting against Luo Binghe's regime. But even they had to eventually admit defeat and the rebel leader used his only daughter to declare their alliance.
It was typical that Shen Yuan would manage to transmigrate into a cultivator, but never get to really use his new powers before becoming a wife. At least he would meet his favourite character (of this novel!)
Still, as they entered the throne room, Shen Yuan's hands shook a little with nerves. Because, at the other end of the hall, Luo Binghe sat on his throne, surrounded by wives and advisors.
Really, he was more handsome than the novel had managed to convey! Regal too, with his robes and wild hair! Nonetheless, Shen Yuan couldn't help but think that he looked a little... cold.
He wasn't even looking at the delegation entering the hall. Instead, his eyes were turned towards the distance, no expression on his face.
As they came closer, Shen Yuan noticed an odd detail: on the side of his head was a little braid in his hair. It looked like it should have been long brushed out, tangled and falling apart.
The next moment, he was distracted by the delegation coming to a halt in front of the throne. They all bowed and the rebel leader started to declare their alliance.
Shen Yuan was barely listening, but even he got the gist of it and let out a relieved breath when it was done.
Of course, then, the rebel leader gestured him forward and started the whole spiel about offering him up as a bride, to become part of the harem.
Truthfully, Shen Yuan wasn't overly worried about that part. In the story, his character had played an extremely minor role at best. She had appeared, Luo Binghe had married her, and she never showed up again after. Even the wedding night had been cursory and lacklustre at best.
Honestly, Shen Yuan hoped to just vanish into the masses of the harem to be forgotten and do his own thing for the rest of his life.
As expected, Luo Binghe accepted him as his bride, barely even looking at Shen Yuan. After that, he was allowed to step back again.
As the rebel leader and Luo Binghe talked more negotiations, Shen Yuan was pulled aside by his own maid. The adorable thing had accompanied him all the way and was determined to stay with him, even though she'd been shaking like a leaf when they entered the palace.
"Outrageous," she now whispered heatedly into Shen Yuan's ear. "He didn't even look at you, Miss! The disrespect-"
Over the course of the trip to the palace, Shen Yuan had grown rather fond of the girl. Still, he couldn't leave a statement like that unaddressed.
With a now practiced movement, he pulled his fan out of his sleeve and gently bonked her head with it. "Silly girl," he scolded her. "Aren't you too old to talk nonsense like that? Think! To have the attention of a powerful man like that brings nothing but trouble. No, I'd much rather he not pay any attention to me at all. In any case, it's not your place to question the Emperor."
She rubbed her head and pouted at him, and Shen Yuan couldn't help but sigh and pat her head gently. "It's alright now, don't cry, ah!"
It was only then that he suddenly noticed the dead silence around them.
He looked around and saw that everyone was looking at them with different degrees of confusion. Shen Yuan wasn't sure why at first, until he caught sight of Luo Binghe.
There was nothing left of his earlier icy expression. Now, he was staring at Shen Yuan with wide, surprised eyes.
Uncertain what had inspired this change, he quickly looked away and slid his fan back into his sleeve.
Before he could say something sufficiently polite and distracting, though, Luo Binghe actually stood up from his throne, to the hushed whispers of his wives and advisors.
He walked down the steps of the dias and stopped right before Shen Yuan.
"I must apologise," Luo Binghe said, and Shen Yuan jolted in surprise. "I'm afraid we haven't been properly introduced. I'm sure you already know, but my name is Luo Binghe."
Before Shen Yuan could stop him, he dipped into a gallant bow.
Hastily, he mirrored him. "Shen- that is, my name is Zuo Anwen."
Luo Binghe's eyes flashed dangerously, just for a second, before he smiled amicably and reached out to take Shen Yuan's hands into his own.
"I know you must be overwhelmed. But would you do me a favour?"
Shen Yuan was aware he couldn't say anything but yes. So, he nodded.
"I want you to answer me a question," Luo Binghe continued, the smile on his face turning stranger with every second. "Please, answer honestly, tell me whatever you truly think. I promise there won't be any consequences. Your answer won't affect the marriage, you have my word."
Shen Yuan thought this sounded like a trap. Nevertheless, he took a deep breath and nodded.
Luo Binghe's eyes gained an even sharper edge and he asked: "You must have fought against many demons in your life. Do you think... are they all unforgivably evil and should be killed without prejudice?"
What kind of question was this??
Helplessly, Shen Yuan looked past Luo Binghe at his "father", who was frantically shaking his head at him.
The next second, Luo Binghe stepped to the side and obstructed his view with his body. He squeezed Shen Yuan's hand and reminded him: "Your true opinion."
Shen Yuan sighed wearily and decided that, since he didn't know what exactly Luo Binghe wanted to hear, he might as well say his honest opinion.
"Not necessarily," he started slowly. "There are good and bad humans. It stands to reason that it'd be the same for demons. Humans only ever see the hurts that demons inflict on other humans. But there might be instances where demons are just as badly hurt by humans. People are influenced by their prejudices like that, and the divide between demons and humans only gets deeper."
It was like the sun broke out on Luo Binghe's face. From one second to another, his smile turned into a wild grin, startling in its intensity, and his eyes got so wide and dark that he started to look a little bit insane.
Spooked, Shen Yuan tried to take a step back but was stopped by the tight grip Luo Binghe kept on his hand.
He pulled Shen Yuan in closer, fangs flashing as he leaned down to whisper into his ear: "Hello there. I have been looking for you."
After a long moment of silence, he slowly drew back again, although he still didn't release Shen Yuan's hand.
"Yes," Luo Binghe finally said, for everyone to hear, "I think this marriage will be very fruitful for both of us."
The end~
(Btw, you might be wondering: how is this Bingwife? Well, it's not shown but it is heavily implied that Shen Yuan is gonna turn Bingge into his loved and pampered wife through the power of kissies and headpats. There you go😌)

Shen Yuan’s gotten away with avoiding many of the responsibilities of a well-to-do young master, but he’s finally found the one thing he can’t escape: no matter what, he must take a wife. Luo Binghe, Shen Yuan’s personal servant and totally platonic best friend, takes a particular interest in this. (Unrelated, and surely not important: demonic sightings in town have risen, and Luo Binghe is keeping secrets. Good thing these things have nothing to do with Shen Yuan’s bridal selection!)
🖤 bingyuan 🖤 confessions, light hearted, (sort of) secret identities 🖤 personal servant lbh joins the fight to be young master shen's bride 🖤 18.8k, 2 chapters, complete

Thank you to everyone who's submitted lovely bingwives thus far! We just wanted to give a quick update re: NSFW content on tumblr.
The rule of tagging as NSFW is what it is to allow each individual to opt out of explicit content if they'd like, but we are aware that adding explicit tags marks the post as 'community label: mature,' which can then mess up the post's visibility in searches. In particular, this seems to be an issue on mobile.
We're making sure to conduct desktop searches at least once per day to try and avoid this issue, but if you ever worry we haven't seen your post, please feel free to send it to us directly or @ us in the comments of the post / the post itself.
We hope this clears up any concerns, and thank y'all again for your lovely bingwife meals so far!
