reminder to keep active this exam season. get away from your desk, go for walks, enjoy the spring. keep going to the gym if that's something you do. not only is it good for your body, you'll feel better too and it'll help relieve stress

dropping by to remind you that it is okay to:
♡ not have it all together
♡ not feel comfortable with the people you love 24/7
♡ not feel like doing anything at all
♡ feel upset at yourself ( just don’t dwell on it for too long! )
♡ feel angry / irritated / unhappy
♡ be tired
♡ take a break for yourself
🤍 you are loved / heard / seen / wanted. 🤍
with love,
ying.

i love it when you read multiple works from a writer and you start being able to pick out the things that stick with them. like the themes they keep thinking about, that can’t be satisfied with just one poem or novel or story. or the motifs they like to reuse and recycle throughout their works like an extradiagetic thread. it’s like drawing a map through a writer’s collection of all the things that keep them up at night

even if you feel like you aren't qualified for something, my best advice is to apply anyway. it's up to the people behind whatever you apply to to decide that, not you. apply to that fellowship, send in that abstract, send that application to that school or that summer program. you'll be surprised with all the doors that open when you do.

a winter studying aesthetic
warming your hands on a mug of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate
settling in to study under a pile of blankets
short days, waking for your first class while it’s still dark
your favorite sweater, worn and wearing thin
walking from one class to the next, face shielded from the wind by a hand-knitted scarf
writing even as your fingers grow stiff with cold
a glow of warm, flickering candlelight
getting distracted by snow falling just outside your window
working diligently, pushing through to the end of the semester
deep, calming breaths before a big test that turn to fog in the frigid air
a glimpse of the sun, low on the horizon
long novels piled on your bedside table
taking a study break to have a snowball fight with your friends

i've been thinking a lot about this recently so i figured i'd share: i once had a professor say "don't let perfect become the enemy of good" and i think that's a very hard thing to learn for a lot of us but it's also a very important thing to learn. it's very easy to get caught up in this idea that things need to be perfect (or even just one specific way) even if what we have is already good, and that mindset can be really toxic and harmful in a lot of ways. i guess what i'm trying to say here is it's okay to just do good work. hell, it's okay to do mediocre or even downright bad work. you don't have to be perfect all the time to make your work worthwhile.

you’re getting there.
everytime you try again, you’re getting there.
everytime you get up and face another day, everytime you find yourself smiling, everytime you get through a rough patch, everytime you encourage or help someone else, everytime you do something you love.
you’re always getting there.
