The Transportation System in Austin, Texas
Getting around Austin can be frustrating, especially during rush hour. Traffic is a constant headache, with I-35 often at a standstill. Many people rely on their cars, but parking downtown can be pricey and hard to find. Public transportation exists, but it’s limited. Capital Metro buses cover most areas, and there’s a commuter rail, but it doesn’t reach every part of the city. Rideshares, electric scooters, and biking are popular alternatives, especially in central neighborhoods. Austin is working on improving things, with plans for expanded public transit and better bike lanes. Walking is easy in some areas, like South Congress or downtown, but outside of that, you’ll probably need wheels. If you’re moving to Austin, be prepared to spend some time in traffic or get creative with your commute.
Austin Central Library, Austin Public Library in Austin, TX
This isn’t your average library. The Austin Central Library is a modern, six-story space filled with cozy reading spots, floor-to-ceiling windows, and one of the best rooftop views in the city. Located near the Seaholm District, it has everything from a huge book collection to a tech-friendly makerspace. The rooftop garden is a hidden gem, perfect for unwinding with a book or just taking in the skyline. Inside, you’ll find art installations, a coffee shop, and even a section dedicated to local authors. Whether you’re looking for a quiet study space or just want to browse, it’s easy to spend hours here. Plus, the building itself is a work of art, designed with sustainability in mind. If you’re in downtown Austin, it’s worth stopping by.
CMT Awards 2025 Canceled 2 Years After Moving to Austin. Here’s Why
It’s a shame to see the CMT Awards pulled from Austin after just two years. The city was a great fit—live music is a huge part of Austin’s identity, and the event brought energy and tourism dollars to the area. With Paramount Global restructuring after its merger, it’s not too surprising that some events are getting cut, but it’s frustrating for country music fans who were just starting to enjoy having a major awards show in town. Other Paramount events were canceled too, so this isn’t just about Austin, but it does raise questions about whether the CMT Awards will return at all. The Moody Center felt like a natural home for the event, and now Austin loses another big entertainment moment. Hopefully, another major music event steps in to fill the gap.
