A cut crease or a fuchsia lip isn’t always suitable for corporate America, so I often find myself reaching for these lipsticks when I’m in a hurry. I don’t think shipping is still guaranteed for a Christmas delivery, but I still highly recommend the Holiday Mented Faves Trio. This trio features three full-sized lipsticks from Mented’s existing cream lipstick line in special holiday packaging. Nude LaLa: A pinky-brown nude. It’s the nude that you wear when you don’t know what to wear. Dope Taupe: A medium-toned neutral brown shade that’s not too warm or too cool. After being introduced to this fantastic brand by @thefancyface, I bought a few eyeshadows last spring, then again during their recent sale. I didn’t think of myself as an eyeshadow person until these creamy, pigmented formulas touched my eyelids. Easy-to-blend, yet true-to-color, I love how I can count on Sydney Grace for a fast and effortless look. I also like how the brand owners operate on social media. They have a very professional, yet warm vibe that most makeup brands lack. Instead of posting cliche, patronizing memes and using cutesy “best-friend” language, the owners talk to us like customers. They share interesting stories behind their product names and provide small glimpses into the production process. Their partnerships with makeup influencers seem organic and authentic. (Swipe left for the shade name.) I love the copper-terracotta undertones in this @milanicosmetics lipstick, which is from their Bold Color Statement Matte Lipstick line in the shade 12 I Am Radiant. The Bold Color Statement Matte line was released last year, and in my opinion, was completely underrated and deserving of more attention. I own about three shades out of the twelve, and I reach for these more often than many of my more expensive lipsticks. The formula is matte, but the Monoi Oil makes it more nourishing and tolerable on dry lips. This to me is a more vibrant version of the @colourpopcosmetics #luxlipstick on LA Lady. It’s also less red, but still similar to the @toofacedcosmetics Peach Matte lipstick in Got Peach? ___ Where the mirror meets the soul. On this #selfieSaturday, I’m wearing the Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Foundation in the shade 61NN. On the @Sephora website, this shade is described as a “medium-dark neutral with a neutral undertone.” It’s a perfect description for my skin, because my undertone is seriously neutral. It’s not as easy to find a foundation match because I often come across undertones that are too yellow or orange. This is the sample from Sephora. I bought the full size during the Sephora sale a month ago, but I’m scared to open it because I want to make sure that it’s the right match. I’m so tired of the waste in the beauty industry, so I have made a decision that when possible, I will never again return a product that has been opened. When you return open products, they go straight to the trash and contribute to pollution. Also, returns cut into the retailer’s profit margins, which eventually leads to higher prices for all of us. Again, this rule is WHEN POSSIBLE, so this may not be feasible in places such as @ultabeauty where they don’t offer samples. But I will try. This photo has absolutely no filters or photo editing. Not even the lighting settings have been changed. I’m also not wearing any other makeup, since I took this photo to test the shade of this foundation against my chest. I bought two shades of this foundation — 61NN, which I am wearing in this photo and 70NN, which is a deeper shade. 70NN is described as a “dark neutral with a neutral undertone.” I have tried 70NN, which can also work for me, so I’m still unsure. ___ Where the mirror meets the soul. (Swipe left for swatches!) I am always on the hunt for a good drugstore bronzer. There is a serious lack of options for anyone with skin deeper than MAC NC35. Earlier this summer, @lorealmakeup released their Summer Belle Collection. Designed to emulate a sun-lit look from the French Riviera, the collection contained bronzers, lip glosses, blushes, and body luminizers. I purchased the Bronze Please bronzer in the darkest shade, 04 Taormina, Dark. It’s a beautiful color with a slight shimmer and has a very light coconut scent. Luckily, it’s deep enough to bronze me, but I am quite disappointed that this shade won’t work for anyone deeper than MAC NC50. Brands really need to work on this.
