Oh my God, does that mean that Alastor is in some sort of pain 24/7? Oh Jesus, I hope I'm not jumping the gun too much here but I hope Charlie can at least alleviate it a bit? I felt so sad he actually asked Mr. Leblanc twice about it.

Okay, now that it's past the point in the story that it won't be considered a spoiler or anything, I can finally answer this.

And yes, he is constantly in a good deal of pain because of the scarring. Keloidal scars don't have much elasticity because of how they form when wounds heal incorrectly, so they can be quite painful to deal with, even just with one pulling at the surrounding regular skin. Considering how many's he's got, however, it would likely be downright agonizing to experience on the daily, especially when he gets stressed, and his stress tends to manifest in his shoulders, neck and upper back muscles.
