“The Shooter” - A story that I came up with two years ago actually but only just now got to draw it out. As a fan of storytelling I always let the art dictate the medium and this one seemed like it could only live as a comic. Hope you all have a great weekend!

So I tried to create 5 different type of warriors here (I’m not sure if it shows really).
The knight should be a balance warrior with equal points in fight and guard abilities ; a good tank.
The guardian is obviously the best protector of the lot. He focus his abilities on guard and/or ward so he can take all the heat of the battle while the other party members kill their foes one by one from afar. The best tank.
The swordsman can be anything from a critical striker to a strong defensive warrior type with some dodge abilities. He is the most balance warrior.
The warlord. I wanted to create a character that just hits with brute force and nothing else. So he is entirely focused on fight ability, no defense, no guile and certainly no magic. He strikes to kill, or he dies.
The ranger uses weapons with wide reach, preferably a bow of course. Of all five warriors, he has the most guile.
And like last time, on second and third row, I made some alternative versions.
I will send unclothed bodies later if people are interested to use them. I would really like to see more customized characters.
------------------
Once again man I am absolutely blown away by the amount of work you’ve put into this! I especially love the ranger sprite, he simply looks amazing! Keep up the good work man!

I apologize for my repeated questions; but I both wanted to thank you for your tips in making a custom sprite and ask your opinion on that exact subject; more or less following your tips I used my character's regular (nude) sprite as a base to draw myself a custom sprite (two actually, nude and dressed) What is your opinion on sharing/posting sprites made as modification or based on existing game assets?
Personally I see nothing wrong with Sprite Edits. People with in the Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Sonic communities have been doing it for YEARS and I don’t see any problem with them so really I don’t think there’d be any issues if somebody else was to do the same.

Made an edit for my newest Orc recruit
Hope it doesn’t read as too silly. I really love burly chefs!
I hope it doesn’t read as too silly, I love burly chefs with sour attitudes!
-----------------------
Haha, I love him! Personally I always love sillier sprite edits, so this one works so well for me I swear. Great work on him, haha.

I was wondering if you had any tips or recomendations to doing custom character sprites for bastard bonds; been attempted some of my own, however I have been having some trouble (due to my inexperience with sprite art/at such low resolution, as well as inexperience with using programs such as photoshop to draw, instead of sai or manga studio)
Hmm… Well I’ve never actually had much experience with sprite art, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. As well, if anybody else has any suggestions please do leave them.
Personally I’d recommend starting with getting the base nude sprite made first. This way you have the body type you want and it’ll be easier add in and make the clothing around it. It’s way easier to design an outfit for somebody when you know exactly how big you need to make it. After you make both the base sprite and the clothing I’d recommend you look up some tutorials on sprite shading. Even just a little bit shading will help to make your sprite way better than it was before.
Aside from that, all I can really say is references are your best friend in any form of visual art. No matter what it is you’re making for this game, having a visual representation to help you add pixels to paper is a god send. Maybe draw the character first and use that as your reference, or look up pictures online. If it can help in anyway then use it.

Thought I’d share the edit I did of the centaur I recruited.
Jerzy, a cow centaur that wants to be a warrior, but just oozes farmboy. Despite not having zero tolerance for ale and being a bad swearer, he’s pretty good with a bow.
------------------
Haha, oh my god he looks adorable. I love him! Though I guess that might have something to do with the centaurs being one of my favorite enemy designs in the game, but your edit still oozes personality and I want like 50 of him in my party haha.

Its pretty embarrassing (never sprited before), but thought I’d share my guys.
My main is a blue haired necromancer named Broo. He ran a sleazy brothel in Crest, but it was discovered nearly all his workers were actually undead he controlled. One trial later and he’s shipped of to.Lukatt to be executed.
Made a custom sprite for the poor undead guard that ended up my servant. Figured Broo’s the type of guy that would dress up his puppets lewdly.
Also made a ninja imprisoned for murder and pegasus knight imprisoned for desertion.
Having too much fun with this game!
--------------------------
Haha, that’s beautiful man. A bit morbid, and I doubt any of his clients were exactly happy with the news (And nether were the few living workers I’d imagine haha) but still I have to admit it’s pretty funny none the less. Also this was your first time spriting?!?!? I wouldn’t of guessed, these all look really amazing. I especially LOVE the detail on the Pegasus’ wings. Overall it’s one hell of an impressive first effort!

In the first row, 5 pure vein casters (animated gif coming soon). In the second row, alternate versions, accessories and magical effects people can use to make their own designs.
------------------------
Wow, these are all really good man! I think you really managed to bring out a lot of character from the magic types and the effort you put into this really shows! I think out of all of them my favorite would have to be the Lux Caster, but they all look amazing! Great job man!

Here’s my custom character. I had a lot of fun making some pixalart for the first time ever, so I made an animated gif of it.
—————
This lovely gents name is Ael, and man so I love seeing these custom sprites! Just seeing the amount of detail and personality is put into these is simple astonishing! Not only that, but this guy also went ahead and made a gif version of it as well!
Like just look at this!!! So good! I love it, great work man :)
EDIT: OH! I almost forgot to mention this guy is also a comic artist as well. Sadly for english speakers I believe it’s only in Spanish (Correct me if I’m wrong) but for any Spanish Speakers following this blog be sure to give him a watch! From what I can tell his stuff looks really good.

Abandoned works
Okay so, I’ve made a lot of characters in Bastard Bonds so far. Upwards to around 75 I wanna say? I don’t know, the character creation makes it easy to create something full of personality rather quickly. Now while I do like most of the characters I’ve made, there are naturally going to be some that I just don’t really care for or who’s designs I just kind of don’t like. Either because they were tests I was doing with character creation, or because I can’t come up with a backstory for them, or because I was going for something totally different and ended up with something else that I just kind of kept since I didn’t feel like getting rid of a character design I worked hard on. Heck thinking about it now, comparing the characters I’m making now to the ones I posted in that first set I would of probably just threw Conner, Alen, Brian, and Leo into my little “Abandoned” folder. Heck, I’ve already given Leo and Garret some edits (Far happier with Garrett’s design now) and am thinking of doing the same for James and the ninja brothers since I’m just not happy with their designs anymore but am also unable to get rid of them.
Point is, I’ve abandoned a few characters thus far. But at the same time, I kind of don’t wanna let them go to waste, so I’ll go ahead and share them now with you guys right quick in case you would like to use them.
This is Barbos. He was originally going to be apart of this whole group of wrestlers who ended up getting into trouble with the law and got sent to the prison island, but that got scraped since I couldn’t really think of a backstory for all but like three of them. Expect a lot of his friends to be here as well.
This is Benny. He was meant to be this wrestler that turned into some kind of heroic figure on the island, but that role got passed off to another character with a similar design that I liked more so Benny kind of just got left behind.
This is Calvin. He was a beta design for one of the three wrestlers that survived the purging. I tried to salvage him and the other beta design for that character and have the two be a tag team, but I couldn’t think of a personality for either so here they are.
This is Dominic. He’s the Dom (Hehe, get it?) in a relationship with a fellow wrestler named Jaylon (Who’s also in here) and the two ended up getting carted away after having sex on a very in public park bench. I found the idea funny so they’re still in my roster folder, but I also don’t really feel like I have enough on the both of them to put them a proper showcase so here they are.
This is Gavin, and admittedly I’m kind of sad about this one. Originally working as Garrett’s and James’ boss before he himself got arrested, I thought I had a lot on the guy. But as more and more characters came in that had better backstories and designs, Gavin kind of faded away. It wasn’t until I started clearing people out did I realize aside from being a bandit leader that I had nothing to work with for this guy. No personality or anything, and when I tried to give him something I kind of failed horribly to do so. He’s one of the 4 people in this showcase that I’m keeping in my roster folder, but overall I just can’t warrant giving him a spotlight :/
This is Gilbert, a wrestler that had been on the island for almost a decade now and sort of just accepted his fate that he was never getting off of it. That’s literally all I got on him.
This is Gregor. I literally have no idea why I made him, but he exists.
This is Ivor, a Cleric for the dark god of Lust. Never gave that dark god a name or anything, and despite doing a run through with Ivan I could never really give him a personality aside from having sex for rituals involving his God. I’m gonna be keeping him in my Roster folder for lore reasons cause I do wanna do something with that god, but Ivor himself has nothing I can use for a spotlight on him.
And here we have Jaylon, the sub in the relation to Dominic! Aside from the info I said above about him in Dom’s overview I just noticed that he’s also the only non-white human that I abandoned. I’ve actually been improving with adding diversity to my characters and what not, so I don’t feel too bad not giving Jaylon a proper spotlight. However he’s still the last character out of this bunch that I’ll be keeping in my roster folder so he was good enough for me not to remove him from my game all together!
Here’s Karmon. Originally I was going to have him be somebody who was forced into being a pit fighter on the island (Think gladiator duels, but you only fight with your fist and while not against the rules there’s a lot less killing) but when I was making more of them I kind of realized I had nothing on Karmon so I ended up abandoning him.
Luke was a wrestler with a farmer gimmick who I kind of made by accident, but I liked his design so I kept it. While I was doing the purge though I kind of realized aside from his gimmick I had nothing with him so I just ended up ditching him pretty quick
And finally this is Ronny, the other beta design who’s in a tag team with Calvin. All he is is a color swap cause I thought I would be happier if I just swapped colors. I wasn’t.
Anyway yeah, looking over these designs again I kind of realized how similar a lot of them are. All but two of them have the same body type (Though I’m not afraid to admit Male 0 is my favorite one) and all of them are lacking in the pants department. Thankfully as of the next set, that’ll for the most part change! I think I only have one more set with designs that are sort of alike, but that’s on purpose due to the subject material. Overall looking at my first stuff to what I’m making now I can safely say I’m getting kind of better at this!
Anyway, send me your characters so I can feature them here! I love seeing the characters you guys come up with and seeing the stories you guys can pull out is always fun. Anyway, till next time! See ya!

Oh wow, glad I checked the tag haha. Didn’t realize you uploaded this on your own blog as well! I’m assuming the blank sprite above the Cyrano one is the thing with his abilities loaded onto it, right?
Here’s my updated Cyrano custom sprite for Captaingerbear’s game Bastard Bonds, ready to use ingame, the other one needed an overhaul. I so can’t wait to get the full game. Wondering if there are any angels in the game seeing as there is a character in the game classified as a demon, would be cool having the game say Cyrano - Angel, prob wishful thinking, even more so an angel with luxsoul.
(Cyrano is a character from Captaingerbear’s future game See no Evil: Heaven on Earth)

K so... I have way more than just 20 now, so I figured it would be best to start sharing them now. Haha, I kind of went a bit overboard with the whole world building thing that I like to do with games that don’t really give us much about the outside world. Not that this game really needs it, in fact for somebody like me I tend to have more fun being given the tools to make my own world out of a game than to be given a pre-made one. There tend not to be many games that do that, but thankfully this game scratches that itch extremely well and allows somebody to keep building and building upon it’s self without much issue. Or, at least it seems to be that way from what the demo has shown us. In fact, all ten of these guys came about after I made Deven and Xago (Who can be found here!) so you can already see how much fun something like this is for me :P Anyway, onto the characters!
First up, we have Xander, the head of the Bravan Noble family, and his two guards Duler and Cable! Both Xander and Cable met when they served in the royal army over two and a half decades back, and the two have been best friends ever since. Knowing each other like the backs of their hands the two trust each other more than anybody, leading Cable to be the first person Xander would go to when in need to help or advice. The man is more of an adviser than a guard really, which is mostly why Xander requested that he work as his guard over anybody else. Not to mention the rumors that the two men are secretly knocking boots, but as Xander would always say “Those are just silly rumors.”
Duler on the other hand, met Xander around a year after he had joined the military. Having been banished from his tribe after his father’s attempt on their leader’s life, Duler was starving and on the brink of death before the man found him and effectively saved his life. Ever since then, Duler has been ever loyal to Xander and would do anything to keep him and his family safe. Even going so far as to have his two sons (Xago and Torgan) become the guards of Xander’s two children when they came of age.
Next up we have Beatrice and her two guards, Sparrow and Zlog. Beatrice‘s and Xander’s marriage has always been a little... Shaky. The two didn’t hate each other, in fact they got along just fine and in no way did either ever go out of their way to treat the other poorly. However, having been forced into an arranged marriage by their parents when the two were still young and both had others who’d they’d rather spend their lives with it was clear there wasn’t a lick of romance between them. However, it wasn’t possible for the two of them to simply accept their fates and let go of the people they loved. So when Beatrice requested that a young Mercenary by the name of Sparrow be one of her two guards it was obvious what was going on. However when Xander vouched for the man’s skill and his Wife’s intentions there were no objections that were made. This would soon send the Bravan family name into a whirl of rumors and mystery. Why were the two sleeping in different rooms? Why were they so close to their guards? Were Beatrice’s children really Xander’s, or did the come from her Guard Sparrow? So many things were said behind the backs of the Bravan family, but in the end they were happy and even if they had to hide the truth from all, that was all that mattered to them.
Beatrice’s other guard, Zlog, is Sparrow’s maternal older brother and had been raising him ever since the young orc had found him abandoned as a newborn in a dark alleyway when he himself was only 8. and on his own as well. However, by stealing coin from drunks at the local tavern he managed to keep the both of them fed and somewhat safe. When Zlog turned 16 he quickly found himself working as a mercenary to care for the then 8 year old Sparrow, who at that point started doing the same thing Zlog had done when he was a child. When Sparrow turned 14, the two took to the road after a job Zlog was on went south and the two realized they needed to get out of dodge fast. The didn’t stop until they arrived at a bustling city almost two years later, and from there made their stake as swords for hire. This city would soon become their permanent home, and the two finally started to make enough money to start feeling comfortable. It was around this time when little Sparrow found a young noble woman by the name of Beatrice, and it was clear that the two had fallen for each other. Zlog would constantly tease his brother about it, but in truth he was happy that Sparrow had found a woman his age he was happy with. However, his heart was quickly broken when news came that Beatrice was being married off to another man. He cried for days on end, and he had no idea just what to do about his situation. However, when Beatrice came to him and his brother requesting that the two be her royal guards, and told him that Xander approved of their relationship the brothers quickly agreed to work under her. While their relationship is anything but normal, and marriage was never truly a possibility for the pair, they were happy and to the two of them that was enough. Zlog getting to live in luxury after years of taking care of the human was also a nice touch.
Next up we have Vera, the wild and adventurous hire to the Bravan house. Vera, while feminine in nature, isn’t what you would call the typical noble woman. Flirty, (Though never leading somebody on) playful, and with her head constantly in the clouds Vera makes some worry about the future of the noble line. However both her guards, Deven and Xago, know that she is more than capable of the job. While she is still everything above described her as, she tends to overplay it as an act to fool those around her into underestimating her. She knows exactly what she is in for when her parents step down from power, and knows that the people around her are going to do everything in their power to tear their family name to the ground. So knowing that she’ll need every advantage she can get and not willing to put her brother through that hell she is determined to save her family name from ruin in any way she can, and with the help of her two trusted friends and guard she might just yet.
And finally we have Lex and his two guards, Torgan and Gunther. Lex is the youngest child in the Bravan family home, and knows the odds of him rising to power are slim unless he was to cause the death of his sister or convinces her to step down and give him the title. However, the former is an act he refuses to do, and the latter he has realized over the years is impossible. This over the years made Lex somewhat resentful at the world around him and the power structure in place. Not that he would ever tell anybody that anyway. While his family and guards can tell, Lex is very skilled at the art of deception and to those who do not know him well enough he can be quite the charmer. However when it comes to power, just like his fighting style, he is very reckless. He’s the type of person who would make a huge power move to take out a rival lord, only to leave himself defenseless to another lord who wanted the Bravans out of the way. He isn’t cruel, or totally power hungry, but he’s never truly ever able to see the bigger picture and tends to get tunnel vision very easily.
He tends to get called out on this a lot by his guards, Torgan and Gunther, who keep trying to push into other directions where he can use his skills effectively. The two of them have known since they were children, being the youngest of the royal guards themselves. Torgan having been trained by his father Duler, and Gunther having been trained by Cable, the two were piratically raised to protect and assist Lex in anyway they can. Lex does consider them friends of his, but at the same time he is determined to prove the both of them wrong, however he would not get the chance to do so.
Everything would soon come crashing down for everyone aligned with the Bravan house however when a rival lord forged evidence accusing Xander and his family of conspiring with the enemy nation of Varbon to have the current head of the nation assassinated. This would soon cause a war between Varbon and the nation of Crest to break out, and for a man hunt for everyone in the Bravan house to begin which drove the country into chaos. While the family had managed to elude capture for sometime (With the exception of Vera’s two guards, Xago and Deven, who were captured making sure everyone else could escape) they were soon found and brought back in chains by the same man who had accused them in the first place. All seemed hopeless, until one by one all 12 of the Bravan family members and guards managed to escape their locations of arrest. Now scattered a crossed the prison island, the 12 must soon find each other and find a way off the island to hopefully clear their names and end the war raging just a boat’s ride away.
And... That’s about it with this crew! I have a ton of more characters I have to share with you guys before the full release, but until them please do send me your characters so we can showcase them here or send me a link to your posts about them so I can reblog it here! Honestly seeing what you guys can come up with is even more fun than making these characters myself. Y’all are a creative bunch and I love seeing your work. Anyway, until next time, see ya!

I usually just end up making these 5 characters whenever a game gives me a cool character creator, so here are my 5 unlucky castaways in order.
Nithilus the Deserter, upon coming across information that him and his men were to be sacrificial lambs to draw out enemy forces, Nithilus convinced his brothers in arms to join him in abandoning the campaign and hiding from the ire of an army he was once proud to be a part of. Having no other skill than with a blade, Nithilus disguised himself and began to take up jobs as a sellsword, proving to be a very valuable asset to those who hired him. He eventually caught the attention of an old general who recognized his quick and deceptive style of swordplay and immediately ordered his capture. Upon trial he would plead guilty to desertion, but in truth, every mission taken as a sellsword was one that ensured his home’s defense and security. In his own way, Nithilus never truly abandoned his fellow soldiers or his country. Now, cast away to a god forsaken island, Nithilus prays he will survive to see his home once more.
Rose the Thief, the Trenot’s are a noble family with strong trade relations in just about every kingdom. They are adored and respected, throwing extravagant balls and helping to secure safety and comfort to the realm, but all of that is just the surface. If one digs deeper, they will see the scheming and power plays at work, the machinations that keep this family at the top. Blackmail, assassination, and torture are the trade of this family. Rose and Iris are next in line to inherit the riches and power of the Trenot family name, but there is a problem, they are twins who share strong enough claims to it. Rose, however, had no interest becoming head of the family, she was content to enjoy the good life, and occasionally break into a palace or two for some spending money and cheap laughs at their security. If only she had told her sister sooner, maybe then the guards wouldn’t have shown up in bulk at Duke Gislou’s estate mid break in. Now she is banished to an island with nothing but the clothes on her back and a smugly written letter of apology by her sister. Rose wasn’t upset though. She honestly had to applaud her sister on a job well done. Besides, from what she’s heard, there’s plenty of need for a thief here.
Graham the Heretic, raised as a warrior monk, Graham studied the heavens and holy documents every waking hour outside of physical training. He found meaning in everything and was a natural at everything he did. He excelled at his duties, surpassed his fellow monks in combating foes and casting miracles, and had the most beautiful singing voice when it came to hymns. He believed in the good in everyone and the glory of vanquishing evil forces. One day he had a revelation, he realized that many of the messages the gods told, even the supposed demonic ones, could all be seen in a different light. The gods him and his fellow monks worshiped were capable of extreme depravity, and the demonic gods were capable of showing compassion to those who believed strongly enough in them. When speaking of this to his fellow monks, he was quickly silenced and driven out in chains, labeled a heretic for simply seeing things from a different perspective. Now trapped on an island of prisoners, Graham is not disheartened, he believes this is a challenge of faith and must meet it head one.
Zeta the Quack, Zeta, a foreign name. A strange academic with a knack for magic from a foreign land. She simply appeared out of nowhere one day and offered her services as a doctor to small random village on the outskirts of the kingdom that had suddenly been stricken with a series of strange plagues and parasites. Though her sporadic speech pattern and constant mimicry of her patients first deterred people from going to her for help, eventually desperation set in upon the entire village. Soon, they were all lined up and waiting to be put under the knife. Using both surgical equipment and some highly questionable forms of magic, Zeta managed to cure all ailments and resuscitate life back to the small village and was deemed a hero among the people. Though many still suspected something was amiss with her, for she was exactly what the village needed at the moment they needed her most. After leaving her home to gather more supplies, a small group of concerned villagers broke into her cottage and proceeded to conduct their own investigation of the strange doctor, eventually finding a log book detailing all the operations she had performed on her patients. What they found disturbed them, the book revealed that she was responsible for all the illnesses in the village to begin with, and that she had used the villagers as test subjects! Removing organs, adding strange objects inside them, and keeping observation logs of each of her subjects over the coarse of months. With this damning evidence, she was quickly detained for conducting these experiments without permission and sent away to an island of criminals just like her. Lesson learned, she supposes, at least this time she’ll ask the new subjects on the island if they would like some ‘modifications.’
Jordan the Necromancer, a shaman with little love of society, Jordan prefers the company of spirits and animals over those who live in cities and towns. Often only venturing into a busy city for supplies and coin, Jordan does his best to make sure he stays under the radar not get involved in anyone else’s affairs. On his way back to his camp in the woods however, a lone wisp came to him and told him of some innocent individuals who were being assaulted by bandits. Looking at him to be the savior, Jordan reluctantly set forth and rescued a family from the clutches of bandits. Taking them back into town, he was then brought to the tavern to celebrate his heroism. People drank, danced, cheered in his honor, and for a moment Jordan’s opinion of society changed. And then did a complete 180 when they asked how he knew where the bandits were. 'A spirit told me.’ Silence fell over the tavern, as many suddenly assumed that by spirit, he meant a spirit from the dead. Without so much as a word, Jordan was knocked over the head and rendered unconscious. When he came to, he was on the shores of an island with a brand of necromancy on his person. The miscommunication and bad leaps in logic lowered his opinion of people significantly. Maybe he can befriend the animals and spirits here.
----------------------------
I just... Wow, the amount of depth you went into these backstories is incredible! I’m honestly impressed and happily shocked. Good job man, I’m sure anybody would be happy to add these guys to their team any day. I know I’m planning to when the full release hits!
