Sister blog to Ask the Famous 8 This isn't as formal as my main site, but the monster AU is my favorite sub-AU and I think about it a lot so I dump thoughts and art of it here. Feel free to ask about anything, I absolutely love talking about the lore. You can also ask the characters questions, they're just answered less frequently.

Something a bit more experimental to finish off Mermay and start off Pride Month. And since it features James, it goes here

These are very messy but I’ve been thinking about the monster au and I had a thought...
What If.....vampires transformed like werewolves...full moon is for the werewolves, but the new moon is for the vampires. which..are more like werebats but are called vampires cus they are. A lot of vampire iterations are kinda bland and generic, this adds a bit of a twist I think. And I mean who doesn’t love a good monster transformation scene

I didn’t draw him tonight but Duncan’s a selkie too! Technically half, but it counts. However, he’s based on a grey seal.

Going off that last post, almost all faeries have a massive sweet tooth. When they’re in their true (smaller) form, their metabolisms are extremely fast and a majority of their energy goes to their wings and brain. Simple sugars are cheap sources of pure energy and easy to get. To be fair, most monsters that can shapeshift have much faster metabolisms than humans’, but even in that context faeries’ are impressively so.
However, when they’re in their human form it’s really hard to consume enough to keep their energy to the same level. They’re bigger, so their bodies need more. That’s why their wings are usually absorbed when they shapeshift. A lot of faeries are caffeine junkies for this reason.
You’d think this means they can’t be diabetic...they can, but not in the same way as us. The amount of simple sugars and carbohydrates needed to wear out their bodies is implausibly high and easy to stay under, often without having to think about it. They can never get too much to process, but they can be born with something close to our type 1. It only affects their human form though! Their wings are similar to the pancreas in that they produce insulin. So if a faeries’ pancreas isn’t functioning properly, they still have their wings. When they’re shapeshifted as humans they don’t have wings so that backup is gone. They can either take insulin shots as humans or change back to their true form for a while. Most diabetic faeries do a mix of both.
#my research on diabetes is Loose here but i think this should hold up#most monsters react to diseases/disorders like we do when they're in human forms because their anatomy is mostly the same#lore#sleepy speaks

Ancient werewolves (the ones that were barely human and certainly not what exist today, existed alongside neanderthals and ancient humans) gave humans the ability to breed with nonhumans. Example: a werewolf and a wolf reproduced and the wolf gave birth to the twins Romulus and Remus, who were the first anims. They passed on that hybridity ability ( hybrility? there’s no punny way to combine those is there) that later allowed for mermaids, harpies and eagleti, and other human-animal hybrids to develop.

IDK why I thought of this but James either carrying a scale around or just plucking one off of him so that he can cut something, because his scales are good for that job, and someone who is inexperienced with sirens starts freaking out because of it
this has been sitting in my drafts (drawing included) and i completely forgot about it i guess…………………………… but anyway thats a good thought. Mermaids’ scales do shed and regrow so James could easily pick off a loose one. They can be pretty sharp, too... You don't want to run your hand against the direction of a mermaid's scales

Duck’s spent his whole life suppressing his feline characteristics that when he started dating Donald he kept slipping up because he wasn’t used to being completely comfortable around someone. It causes him to just...be himself. He gets embarrassed but Donald loves his small purry bf

Do you know what kind of monsters/creatures the other diesels are?
I could see Dart being half human half some sort of fae… or maybe a deer anim/faun. OH! Den’s definitely a dryad. Mavis could be a mermaid? Or a hybrid involving a mermaid. It would fit with her love for the seaside
#i know there's more diesels but that's what comes to mind atm#always open to suggestions tho!#sleepy speaks#ask#forlornlorne

What is the process for a person to become a vampire?
I haven’t finalized this but here’s what I’ve got so far
Once injected, the virus begins to spread and convert the host’s blood type VA, VB, VO, etc. The only blood type that’s immune to this (and thus immune to becoming a vampire) is W_, bloodborne Werewolves
V_ blood’s most distinguishing quality is that it seems to move on its own
Eventually the heart slows down to the point of being undetectable and the pulse is “absent.” The blood no longer needs a heart to pump because the virus moves the blood. Really, the body doesn’t vitally need its heart or lungs anymore. The virus does both jobs: pushing the blood and internally renewing oxygen
The upper canines grow a bit more over time, too
Vampires don’t need to eat or drink, their blood sustains them, but they can if they choose, all their organs still function. Blood is what really strengthens them tho- the virus in their own blood sucks it up and uses it to make the host more powerful
#fun fact: bloodborn (like from birth) vampires are actually just bat anims that are infected with this virus#sleepy speaks#anonymous

@greatwestern-chimera replied to your post “Do you think the kids that Gordon's Dad had with other women could be...”
I did ask this before you released the lore about the Anims My apologies for not waiting on the lore
nah that’s fine, I meant to acknowledge that in my reply but forgot lmao. it’s no problem

Do you think the kids that Gordon's Dad had with other women could be monsters? Maybe Gaylen is a fairy, Papyrus could be a vampire? Or maybe one of them could be a bird anim?
Oh absolutely, that so totally fits with his fetish for “exotics”. I love it (your idea not his fetish). There’s no non-mammal anims but someone could easily be a harpy….maybe Doncaster
