12 Days of Spones Announcement

Hey y’all, I know we’ve been absent of late. Real life and other things have taken over, and sadly, the blog fell by the wayside a bit.

That being said, 12 Days of Spones is going to run again this year! And we’d like your input on some of the potential prompts/themes for this year!

A few ideas have been tossed around like “light(s)” and “fire” and “white” and “home” and “giving” and “warmth” and “travel” but they aren’t set in stone.

So tell your friends, spread the word!

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone is having a good day and stays safe from goblins and ghouls tonight! Mod April decided to upload a speedpaint of her process for the Spock/McCoy pumpkin carving art, so here it is as a bonus treat in celebration of Halloween~ Have a wonderful evening with whatever you decide to do tonight and watch out for monsters!

What would Spock and/or Bones' 'trick' part of trick-or-treat be?

[TOS]

McCoy: We had a pretty good one last year. It was Spock’s idea, actually. We spent the whole day pretending our personalities had been switched. Let me tell you, hearing Spock say “what in tarnation” gave Jim a real fright! But I think me trying to get everyone to use logic was worse on him. By the end of the day he had Scotty and the rest of the crew working to try and find a cure. It was more fun than black cats and rattling skeletons any day.

Hi!!! Sending in a Halloween ask :) What would Spock and Bones each carve on a pumpkin? (bonus - what would they carve for a JOINT pumpkin?!) TY

McCoy: That reminds me of our first Halloween together with Jo. We’d been dancing around each other for so long, but then finally I got my head together well enough to admit that maybe you weren’t all bad. I was worried Joanna wouldn’t like you. Do you remember, darlin’?

Spock: Indeed, I do. Joanna was quite excited to get at the “pumpkin guts.” An odd turn of phrase.

McCoy: She was just testing you to see if you would get grossed out.

???: Are you two talking about me behind my back?

McCoy: Jo! We were, actually. Come in and say hi to everyone. 

Joanna: Hello, everyone!

Spock: They cannot respond…

McCoy: We were talking about our first time pumpkin carving.

Spock: Leonard produced a rather disconcerting rendition of Surak, if I recall.

McCoy: It was an homage. I had to add the square teeth; they’re necessary for Jack ‘o Lanterns.

Spock: So you claimed at the time as well. I, of course, remained logical in my artistic pursuits and carved Gauss’s flux theorem for gravity.

Joanna: I remember that. I had just learned about it in Physics class and helped you fit it all on the pumpkin. And Dad, was that really supposed to be Surak? It was kinda…lopsided.

Spock: Indeed, for a surgeon your skills at pumpkin carving are somewhat lacking.

McCoy: Don’t you two go ganging up on me now. I remember Jo wouldn’t even show us her carving.

Joanna: That’s because it was a surprise! You told me you and Mr. Spock had started dating and I couldn’t help myself.

McCoy: Meanwhile I was biting my nails off worrying you didn’t like him.

Joanna: How could I not?

Spock: I believe I still have the holophoto which was taken…

McCoy: I still remember Jo hiding in the corner, working so diligently, and then she whipped around and— 

McCoy: –That’s how I knew Spock was a keeper. You’re a good judge of character, Jo.

Halloween ask - What costume would Spock pick for Bones to wear, and what costume would Bones pick for Spock to wear? And would they wear the costume the other picked out?

[TOS]

It was a dark an stormy night. Captain Kirk had devised a fiendish plan to ensure his crew had fun this Halloween. Each would draw the name of another randomly from a hat, determining whose costume they would choose.

And who should draw the name of Dr. Leonard McCoy but the indelibly logical Spock? Knowing that if the good Doctor had drawn his name he would certainly chose an embarrassing costume, Spock enlisted the help of Captain Kirk, Lieutenant Uhura, Mr. Sulu, and the rest of the bridge crew to determine Leonard’s fate. He discarded idea after idea, for none were embarrassing enough. But despite his desire to adhere to logic he found himself returning to one costume again and again, and he was unable to ignore how it called to him.

Finally the night approached and he desperately made his final decision, already planning how he would tease Leonard. But when he approached Leonard with the costume he found a surprise waiting for him as well. Leonard, with ruffled fabric in his hand and a smile playing at his lips.

“Happy Halloween.”

McCoy: Wasn’t our first kiss during the tribble incident? Getting sentimental on me, Spock?

Spock: …Never, Leonard. And you are misremembering. That was our third kiss, but the first time I named my affection for you.

McCoy: *teasing* Of course, how silly of me to think a Vulcan could get sentimental.

[askspones]

(for da Halloween event) Have either of you had experience with magic?

[TOS]

McCoy: More often than I care to remember.

Spock: Leonard, those events are perfectly able to be explained by what we know of scientific principles, such as–

McCoy: There were witches! And a castle! A woman turned into a black cat and then into a sock puppet!

Spock: …I take your point.

Halloween ask (again, last one i swear!) - what are Bones and Spock's opinions on Halloween candy/chocolate? :p

[TOS]

Spock: We generally do not keep chocolates in the house. I had an unfortunate…incident…as a child.

McCoy: He got drunk off thin mints. It’s fine, though. I don’t really care for chocolates. I prefer those little candy corns.

Spock: *horrified* You do?

McCoy: Yes? Why do you think I keep them around all the time?

Spock: I thought…I assumed that because they were stale they were from several years ago.

McCoy: They aren’t stale. That’s just how they taste. 

[askspones]

[TOS] for the spooky thing! Spock, if Bones were to become a vampire what would you do? Would you still love him?

[TOS]

Spock: Of course I will always love Leonard. That is beyond question.

McCoy: This might actually be for the best. We humans don’t live as long as you Vulcans.

Spock: That is true. If you were to become a vampire we would enjoy many more years together.

McCoy: Wait a minute, but I’m going to have to lose you!

Spock: When the time came we could ensure that does not happen. There are Vulcan ways of dealing with the issue, and presumably you would also be able to turn me into a vampire.

McCoy: Right. Presumably. If that were to ever happen. Not that it–haha–not that it ever would. Ahem. I mean, that would be absurd.

Spock: Indeed. But contemplating hypotheticals can be stimulating.

McCoy: Right…hypotheticals…By the way, do you have a new cologne or something? You smell so different.

Spock: I do not. Am I disturbing you?

McCoy: No, not at all. I kinda like it. I’m just gonna. *lightly kisses Spock’s neck* Hmmm…

Spock: Leonard, please. Our guest is watching.

McCoy: Right, right. Anyway, long story short, I think we’ll be just fine!

[hours later]

Spock: …

Spock: Oh.

[AOS] Spock, what was it like being a professor? When you and Bones retire do you think you'd go back to teaching?

[AOS]

Spock: *muttering* Rubrics…rubrics…it’s on the syllabus…the syllabus!

McCoy: *swaddling Spock with a blanket* Shh, darlin’, it’s okay. That’s all behind you now.

McCoy: *apologetic* I don’t think Spock will be returning to teaching. It’s left him a bit scarred.

[TOS/AOS]

Spock: It affected our relationship very deeply. Before that time there had always been a certain...distance between us. I admit that this was a distance of my own creation. I had never felt comfortable being fully emotional around anyone, even my husband. But after Leonard carried that piece of me within himself I was no longer able to hide.

Spock: ...I do find it fascinating, the relationship between our counterparts in this universe. He and I both suffered greatly the day Vulcan was lost, and I believe his Leonard sees him differently as a result. A barrier that might have existed between them has already fallen. They are open in a way I always struggled with.

McCoy: Hey…good question.

McCoy: *furtively looks around*

McCoy: Listen, this is just between you and me, but…yes. I mess up his hair all the time. But only when he’s sleeping.

McCoy: *looks over his shoulder suddenly*

McCoy: Don’t tell him, okay? He’s very vain about his looks. But when he wakes up with bedhead it’s the cutest damned thing in the universe.

McCoy: Lettuce raining from the sky? This is the worst date I’ve been on in years.

(TOS or AOS) Spock, does Leonard's aviophobia ever act up? Is there anything special you do to help him out?

[AOS]

Spock: Leonard’s exposure during the mission thus far has resulted in his aviophobia being less severe. However, there are times, specifically when we are on a shuttle that is not of the Enterprise, where he may become mildly ill.

Spock: In those situations, Leonard has found it comforting when I hold his hand in my own and use my thumb to run small circles in the back of his hand. The contact also allows our minds to connect more deeply than our usual link, and I am able to comfort him by sending soothing thoughts.

McCoy: *walks in* Oh? Answering questions without me, Spock?

Spock: The question was directed to myself, but is about you, Leonard. Is there anything you wish to add?

McCoy: Well, let me see what you’ve got.

McCoy: …

McCoy: Hmm, yeah it may be an odd way of doing it, but it works rather well, I think. I can’t remember the last time I felt particularly sick when traveling with Spock.

Spock: It is good my efforts have assisted you, Leonard.

McCoy: *laughs* No need to be shy about it, Spock. Just seeing how attentive you are of me when we travel is enough to calm my nerves.

Spock: Indeed?

McCoy: Yeah, well don’t go getting a big head about it. *grins* Your bowl cut might not fit, then.

Spock: *arches brow*

[TOS]

McCoy: We're exactly the same height. 

Spock: Incorrect. Leonard actually wears inserts in his shoes. 

McCoy: How did you know? 

Spock: I discovered your shoe inserts last month. I assumed you would stop wearing them after I replaced them with platform shoes, but that does not seem to have happened. 

McCoy: ...I thought that was Jim.
