okay but like is anyone ever going to talk about the parallels between hitler's and palpatine's rises to power??

I take history gsce and we're currently doing Germany during the world wars, specifically hitler's rise to power, how he kept that power and his general rule and to simplify it for those who don't know as much-

•Hitler founded the n*zi party

•n*zi party gained popularity (via very iffy ways)

•eventually n*zi party was really big in the Reichstag (the German parliament) and Hitler was super close to the then chancellor's (Hindenburg)

•Hitler convinced Hindenburg to let Hitler be chancellor and that if that happens Hitler would change Germany for the better

•Hindenburg was like 'yeah okay that checks out' and boom Hitler was chancellor

•Hitler as chancellor then enacted the emergency powers that meant the current chancellor would gain even more power and no one in the Reichstag would be able to oppose him or stop him from passing whatever laws he wanted (can you see where I'm going with this?)

•using these emergency powers Hitler was able to ensure that he could mold Germany into how he wanted it to be and no one could stop him

Now before anyone gets offended by my simplified version, yeah it's not entirely accurate and there's definitely more to it but we don't have time for that.

Back to my point, as I'm sure you all know there is a lot that contributed to palpatine being able to become the emperor, but one major one (at least in my opinion) was the fact that during TCW palpatine convinced the senate to give him emergency powers by telling them that if he gets these emergency powers he will end the war and fix the republic (lie) and they all were like 'yeah okay, I trust you and I'm sure you have our best interest at hand'.

These emergency powers then let him pass laws without the agreement of the senate and basically have more power to control the war from both sides. This is also why he was able to announce himself 'Emperor' and just get rid of the senate as a whole.

There is actually quite a lot of parallels between the politics of the two's reigns but I just wanted to specifically discuss this.

!! before anyone comes for me, I am NOT comparing palpatine to Hitler, Hitler is way worse and an actual historical figure, I just wanted to point out the parallels between the two !!
