Co-workers, Office Retreat AU.  Ben and Rey (and the rest of the Resistance and First Order star crew) all work at the same firm together, but in different departments.  To Rey’s chagrin the firm sends them on an office winter retreat at a (luxury) cabin in the woods.  Having always had an antagonistic relationship with Ben Solo and an adversarial one between their departments, Rey is less than excited to land the room next door to his … until she is excited. *wink, wink*  Rey’s peace-making, boss Poe, Ben’s smarmy, gay bff Hux, a no-holds-barred snowball fight and a cast of Star Wars favorites adapted to the modern day dynamics of corporate office life, make for a fun, (eventually) sexy office rivalry to lovers modern AU.

Coworkers on Assignment AU.  Office adversaries Ben and Rey are on assignment together.  A hotel reservation mix-up puts them together in one room with one bed.  Rey needs to trust Ben so they can get the job done … then Ben gets the job done. ;)  Nice tension with sweet, sexy HEA.

Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart by FoxesDance

VERY Explicit. Sick of Leia’s nagging, Ben hires Rey to make the Solo Holiday dinner memorably awkward by playing his dinner-guest-from-hell girlfriend. Rey really ups the ante. Cringe worthy at times (for the Solos and the reader), but a comical and steamy addition to the trope. 

Look No Further (Part 1 of the  another look series) by @thewayofthetrashcompactor​

Angsty take on the trope, it takes a little while for Kylo/Ben and Rey to warm up to each other, both being rather guarded. I really liked how they were both portrayed in this, their tentativeness towards each other gave it a bit of a somber feel. After a Thanksgiving at the Solos where they felt more of a sense of belonging than either would admit, a sense of hope for unexpected possibilities begins to emerge. Part 2 in the series is up now and serves as an interlude between Ben and Rey back at college. The author’s notes imply there is more to come in this series and I’m looking forward to the progression between these two as they begin to build trust in each other and themselves.

Arranged Marriage Reylos 

I will find a light and make it grow by @machinewithoutfeelings​​ 

Post-TFA. One of my favorite in the trope. After annihilating the Resistance, Snoke has forced Kylo and Rey into a marriage to produce an heir. Both are reluctant parties, but neither is ready to get sucked into an abyss of an unhappy marriage, they awkwardly, but with hope, commit to make the best of it. Bonus to the author for nicely balancing an unwanted situation with consent to move forward together - which I find is a key component to pulling off this trope successfully. 

Fated and Inevitable by Kyriademorte 

Flipscript AU. As one of Luke’s Padawan’s, Ben embarks with Luke to visit Jakku where they encounter a cult of force users that is willing to share their knowledge in exchange for a marriage between Ben and Rey (who is a member of the Force cult). Nice rendering of Ben and Rey coming together in the canon universe without the trappings of canon script in the trilogy.

Post-TFA. Luke is exiled, Leia, Finn and Poe imprisoned, and Rey and Kylo forced to marry. Playing house in Corusant, the pair dance around each other as a tentative trust begins to form. But their domestic truce fast turns them in to allies when Hux plays his cards. Nicely paced and developed Reylo arc within the trope.

Canonverse. PWP quickie packed with Kylo feels. Forced to marry by inhabitants on a planet with a Jedi Temple, Kylo and Rey are forced to consummate the marriage in order to leave. As it’s “just sex” to her and she’s eager to leave, Rey is ready to get down to business. Kylo might have more feelings about it.

Medieval Historical AU. PWP. Nicely translated Reylo dynamic into a medieval arranged marriage to end a war. Though they have fought each other on the battle field, they don’t speak each other’s language and now much translate their intentions through touch on their wedding night. 

30 Days to Fall in Love by @reylotrash711​​ 

Post-TLJ Political alliance marriage (orchestrated by Leia). After finding out about their force connection, Leia arranges a political marriage between Kylo and Rey under the guise of political good faith - but she might have some tricks up her sleeve depending on which way the wind shifts. Kylo and Rey find a rhythm in their domesticity as they get to know each other. If the politics that created this marriage don’t work out, will their  marriage? 

Claiming a Fortune and a Family by ClaireLou 

Reylo Mills & Boon style, Modern AU. This is a Reylo adaptation of a Mills & Boon classic: Price of a Bride. Heed the tags, it makes no claim to be anything other than quintessential romance novel fair and delivers in full. Ben the dashing, secretly infatuated alpha male archetype hero, is “negotiated” into an arranged marriage with Snoke’s daughter, the icy, superficial Rey (who hides a secret vulnerabily from the world after suffering a life time of her father’s abuses). Though these types of books are not normally found on my TBR these days, this was a fun Reylo romp for an afternoon of guilty pleasure.

Canonverse Flipscript AU. The Jedi counsel lives and has arranged a marriage between their star Jedi Rey and Kylo Ren in hopes of protecting him and preventing him from falling further to the dark side.

So … After reading @lovesbitca8 Reylo Fics, I decided to give her Dramione fics a try.  And once I was done with them, I decided to give more Dramione fics a try.  And here I am today.  

For those of you who know me as @areysololife and have been enjoying my rec lists there, have no fear … I’m still in the Reylo fandom as well and will continue to post Reylo rec lists at areysololife.tumblr.com.  But since I am starting to dip my foot in Dramione as well, and am planning to start posting rec lists for that fandom as well starting July/August 2020, I thought I’d get this blog established.  

As I am new to the Dramione Fandom, please feel welcome to direct and rec me Dramione authors and fics - in fact that would be much appreciated!

Simple Math by foxxcub 

I saw Inception years ago in theaters, never imagined paring Arthur and Eames when I saw it. Then I stumbled upon this quintessential fake dating high school AU, so well written with teenage angst and quiet resignation that I can’t imagine them any other way. Also in general if you enjoy the HS AU trope, I think can be read without knowing the characters.

Everyone who watched justified and saw the dynamic very subtly built between Raylan and Boyd knows that this is how their story would have continued - with them clueless (until they’re not).

Force Bond to HEA: Part 2

Canonverse Post-TLJ. VERY Smartly written. This is not a typical Reylo fic and I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into when I picked it up. Premise: Rey crash lands on a very eerie planet. Only Ben knows she is in need of rescue due to the force bond and he sets out to do just that. Rey must survive the strange planet while leaning on her enemy to rescue her. Atmosphere: Eerie. It feels like a spook story, but that’s just the surface. It’s written in this ambiguous manner where Rey and the Reader believe she is on a creepy planet with danger lurking about, but as the story progresses, Rey and the Reader have to begin questioning things - whether perhaps Rey’s head injury from the crash is affecting her, or has she been drugged or is the danger she is so sure is there, nothing more than a projection of perspective. Is everything as it appears or nothing as it seems? Parallels: What is certain is that it’s Kylo who has to save her (from the planet or herself?) and in turn she saves him (from the dark side or himself?). The ending gives a nice nod to the series by reversing a key moment. This Reylo is odd in that though Rey and Ben aren’t on page much together, it’s still very much a Reylo and they are still there between the lines with other. I found the build up of their two trajectories converging to each other is both brilliant and engaging.

Canonverse Post-TLJ. Nicely written building Reylo arc. The Force begins to connect them at night. Nightly domesticity juxtaposed against their daily life, knowing that one day the two will converge.

Well, if it’s an emergency…

a place to go (E, 54K) THE most emotionally compromising ‘there’s only one bed’ snowed in AU. Feelings will be felt in great abundance. I love it more than hot chocolate on a cold winter day. 

Asleep now, and silent (E, 16K) Han and Leia invite Rey to spend winter hols with them in their cabin. They fail to mention that Ben is coming along. I just love the way the initial snarky banter and pigtail pulling turns soft. Plus, the romance novel bits are UH-mazing.

Bad Neighbors (E, 92K) Not gonna lie, this is fithly… but we’re into that, aren’t we fam? We sinning good with this one. Basically, they’re neighbours and they hate each other. And yes, they’re snowed in for about a week. Also, bonus ABO.

My top three, I’m in deep. I spent years, literal years lost in Sterek, fell into Reylo last year and am still lost in the fandom and just found the rabbit hole leading me into Dramione. These days (and nights) are mainly spent reading Reylo or Dramione, but trying to find two more that I am as invested in to round out my top five was a bit of a challenge. So below are five ships I dabble in and a fic rec in each that stands out. 

Stackson (Teen Wolf: Stiles Stilinski & Jackson Whittmore) 

You Complete(ly Irritate) Me by Rrrowr

Bone of Orchard Hearts by taylorpotato 

The stand out fic of the Pydia fandom. Not only is it well written, but once I read it, suddenly their canon dynamic fell into place and made sense. 

Inception (Arthur & Eames) 

Simple Math by foxxcub 

I saw Inception years ago in theaters, never imagined paring Arthur and Eames when I saw it. Then I stumbled upon this quintessential fake dating high school AU, so well written with teenage angst and quiet resignation that I can’t imagine them any other way. Also in general if you enjoy the HS AU trope, I think can be read without knowing the characters. 

Justified (Raylan Givens & Boyd Crowder) 

Living Arrangements by Moonshine_Givens @ohthati

Everyone who watched justified and saw the dynamic very subtly built between Raylan and Boyd knows that this is how their story would have continued - with them clueless (until they’re not). 

Stargate (Rodney McKay & John Sheppard) 

Kid A by Speranza @cesperanza

I never saw an episode of Stargate. I didn’t need to. This is a denial of feelings until the angst becomes unbearable love story and extremely well written.
