What exactly about Vampire Diaries, both the show and the characters, didn’t you like compared to Teen Wolf?  Because for me, the first few episodes were somewhat cringeworthy but once the show took a couple of steps away from the romantic subplots and focused on the mystery of Mystic Falls and why Elena looked exactly like Katherine but didn’t have her memories or vampirism, that’s when it got good.  And that season one finale was perhaps the best season cliffhanger I’ve EVER seen.
I asked you about Vampire Diaries because it succeeds immensely in worldbuilding, the one area where imo Teen Wolf fails hard and keeps it from being a better show.  Everything you want to know about the supernatural species, you eventually find out about.  There’s subspecies and they explain those too.  They explain how witch magic works and all the different kinds.  Julie Plec really makes the Vampire world seem much more concrete, though it certainly has issues.  For example, if the Cora subplot had happened on the Vampire Diaries, it would’ve been explained within three episodes how she managed to survive the fire, why she fled to South America, what she did there, and if she was running from any trouble when she arrived in Beacon Hills.
If you didn’t like the Vampire Diaries, maybe you should try the spinoff The Originals instead?  It’s much more mature with minimal teen angst and the first two seasons are on Netflix.
I don't know if you watch The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, but if you do, let me ask you this. How do you feel the worldbuilding of The Vampire Diaries compares to Teen Wolf and the differences between the characters of the two shows and their stance on violence and murder? I mean, what do you see are the key differences in tone between the two show universes?
I tried with the vampire diaries, six eps is my limit of a bad show, and I barely managed 4, I loathed it, I loathed everyone in it
however that’s MY opinion
now with teen wolf the characters are rich and deep BUT one thing Davis does, and does well but is possibly one of the more annoying aspects to fans is that Davis walks the line between what we NEED to know and what we WANT to know, we don’t need to know what happened to Cora in South America, we didn’t need to know where she was after wards but by gods we WANTED to know.
It didn’t affect the story in any way
but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to know
when you plan a work you make pages and pages of notes of which you use the smallest part, the more notes the less you use, and the trick is walking that line, when writers do it badly you get info-dumping which is when the writer is so happy you’re paying attention they’ll tell you anything just because you’re there and they put the work in
it’s a common mistake to young or new writers, and it’s something you have to learn not to do
but tv is often the lowest common denominator in writing, especially genre tv and genre tv on the CW aimed at young women often appears to be written by monkeys on typewriters for the amount of care it gets.
So when you get shows that are often given very little care the writers become hacks, they churn out the show to a loose brief for money, they rarely do more than one episode period, teen wolf doesn’t do that so it’s writers make plans and care about the characters as much as the actors do
that’s the difference

Neil deGrasse Tyson on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
the B E S T thing about this is that it looks and sounds like it could actually be a clip from the film, a continuation of his voice-over from the teaser trailer. like Neil deGrasse Tyson went on television to discuss what the existence of Superman really means and how it affects the world - scientifically, philosophically, politically.
