You did a bio about Uruguay, and an historical event in WWII. Can you do one with Argentina and a event in her history? :D
I definitely will anon! The issue is choosing which one...

APH LATAM Week Day 1 - History
Did you know that there was one WWII battle fought in South America? To be more specific, it happened in the Rio de la Plata, in uruguayan waters.
Known as the Battle of the River Plate, it was the war’s first naval battle, fought between the german and british. After being demaged, the german heavy cruiser,  Admiral Graf Spee, entered the port of Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, for reparations, however due to the country’s neutrality, they were given 72 hours to leave the port. Not only that, but also Hague Coventions came into play, and coupled with the pressure from british ambassadors and the treat of military reinforcments from Britain’s side waiting for them, on December 17th, the commander in charge opted for Admiral Graf Spee to be scuttled to prevent even more loses.
(I’m like over a week late but the prompt was too good to pass by)

So in Brazil, unlike most of the world, Valentine’s day is celebrated on June 12...
Dia dos Namorados (which could be translated as “Lover’s day”) however, has nothing to do with Saint Valentine. Since in February we usually have Carnaval, and the month of June lacked any major commercial holidays, it was decided that such holiday should be celebrated in June.
Coincidentally though, June 12 just so happens to be a day before Santo Antônio (Saint Anthony) day, who is known to be the marriage saint.

@basement-prussia asked me if I could draw a header for @aph-latam-events, with one character for each region so... I let them borrow my Brazil OC, while also drawing our canon latines, Cuba and Ecuador, alongside their Mexico OC, Rosario.
2p America is based off @basement-prussia headcanon where he represents states with hispanic heritage :)

//so… I realized that despite drawing them on my blogs for a while (specially Arge), I’ve never shared my ahoge hcs for Argentina and Bolivia before…
Arge’s ahoge represents Aconcagua, a mountain that is part of the Andes and the tallest point outside Asia. It is located in the argetine province of Mendoza.
Bol’s represents Cerro Rico, also part of the Andes, is a mountain located near the historical city of Potosí. Known for its mines, it used to be the richest source of silver in the world. The mountain can also be spotted in the nation’s coat of arms.

//So… I feel like many of you have heard of World Flags, that personified nations project to tie in with the Olympics, at this point?
Well… have a doodle of World Flags Mercosur… well almost because I’m still waiting for them to release a design for Paraguay… :(
I’m keeping up with them mostly to see what they’re gonna do with the LatAm nations… so hurry up and give us Py so we can have a complete Mercosur

// Sooo…
I’ve always wanted to try redrawing one of the many paintings depicting the national personification of Brazil with my Brazil soo… here it is, my take on 1919′s “Perfil da República” (Profile of the Republic), a depiction of our personified state by painter Décio Villares (which, by the way, was one of the people responsible for helping design the nation’s modern flag).
This is my first time drawing something like this, also painting and drawing people on profile isn’t really my forte, but I guess it is nice to go out of your comfort zone once in a while…orz pls go easy on me
I like to imagine that Bra used to be asked to pose for such paints back in the day, but also ended frustrated with the finished pieces, considering that the women that appear as our national personification was, in fact, inspired by France’s Marianne, and many artists probably would take liberties to change her looks to accommodate that and also the beauty standards of the time…
