a really great organization that i don't see any posts about here is HEAL palestine. it was founded by steve sosebee, who was a founding president of the PCRF before leaving in late 2023 to refocus his efforts on heal palestine to better meet the needs of palestinians impacted by the genocide. the organization provides palestinians in gaza with food, clean water, shelters, "makeshift classrooms," and even medical evacuation for some children when it's possible--their services are pretty wide.
you can donate here if you would like to send a tax-deductible donation to an organization. also, i don't think any evacuations are possible right now, but if you're in the united states and you'd like to welcome medically evacuated children in the future, i highly recommend signing up for their newsletter or following them on social media so you can stay updated in case any children evacuated by HEAL come to your area for treatment. welcoming these kids at the airport is a really moving way to provide them with moral support, entirely for free.

With the blockade imposed by Israel, it is extremely important to support grassroots organizations. They provide aid to multiple families on the ground. The Sameer Project is one organization. It is led by 4 Palestinians in the diaspora and Gazans are risking their lives while distributing the aid to ensure families are accommodated.
The Sameer Project provides food and shelter. As you know, the rainy season is persistent and many families have been displaced by the sea. The high tide has caused many to lose their tents, the only shelter they have. So please donate to the Sameer Project! With your support, they can branch out to families across the Strip!
Here is their Linktree, which also includes Venmo and PayPal.

I’m not even exaggerating I literally think about the anonymous person who donated €1,000 to Nader’s campaign every single day. i’ll be at work making a cocktail and suddenly remember the person who donated €1,000 to his campaign to save his family. idk who you are but I love you thank you
while I’m on the topic you should donate to my friend Nader @abdalsalam1990’s campaign. He’s a 17 year old boy who’s trying to raise money for his family in gaza, including his father who needs cancer treatment and his 1 year old niece so they can survive the genocide in Gaza

Maybe you shouldn’t have responded to people’s despair over a genocide with barely concealed contempt?

The way voting discourse gets this time of year is deeply exhausting because I don't think we should spend this much time thinking about it so here is a concrete thing you should do instead of posting about voting:
Open the search engine of your choice
Type in the name of your city or county.
Type in an issue that you care about the most
And then type in the word "organizing." Or maybe something like "preparedness" or "solidarity."
Spend twenty minutes going through the results until you find something that feels resonate with your values. Maybe it's a nonprofit. Maybe it's a scrappy mutual aid group with a twitter account. Doesn't matter. Find something that's more organized and consistent than a one-off protest.
If there's not results, that's okay. Think of another issue or expand your geographic area. Maybe into look into a national organization.
Send them an email! Ask how you can get involved. Tell them your time restrictions, any skills you have. Ask what they need.
(if contacting a group feels risky at all, make a proton mail account and don't use your real name; there are plenty of mutual aid groups where everyone is definitely using a pseudonym and that's fine!)
Maybe send a few emails, if you like multiple organizations or aren't sure.
Follow up if you haven't heard back in a week. Organizations can get busy but they do need you!!
I'm a paid organizer now but whenever I move on to a different career, I will continue to do organizing work as a volunteer. I've also done mutual aid and attended protests. I'm working on getting involved in disaster preparedness in my neighborhood.
Organizing groups always need more people to help and being involved in something meaningful in your community will save you. Literally it will save you from despair. There are multiple ways of doing this - sometimes what people need is help with social media and you don't even need to leave your room. Whatever you do, you will develop new skills, you will find people who care about the things you care about, you will refine your own political beliefs through concrete action.
Regardless of the outcome of any given election, there is so much work to be done in the world and every single person who decides that they want to do that work opens the door to more possibility and begins to create the conditions for that new world we all want to see so desperately.
Don't let anyone convince you the best you can offer the world is your vote. The world needs your voice and hands and dreams and anger and laughter and creativity. It needs you.

The only thing worse than having a job is not having a job. And the only thing worse than not having a job is looking for a job. And the only thing worse than looking for a job is being 19 years old.
