I’m considering doing a LI portrait series of ATHWTU since I’ve already done Volot, Dragan, Ozar, 1/2 of Tata, and like 2/3rds of Novak (though I’ll probably do Dragan and Ozar again because I feel like my art has improved massively since those two, and there’s a definite difference in quality between them and Volot / Novak).

There’s been such a sudden influx of discourse in the RC fandom as of late, and I gotta say, it’s exhausting.

There are so many people who seem to just want to argue. People who refuse to acknowledge attempts at positive change, people who just want to rage bait and fight with each other, people posting out-of-context screenshots for stupid fake internet points (notes/karma), people who so desperately want everyone to hate something just because they do that they hurt others to make that happen, or hate someone just because they like something they don’t.

And don’t even get me started on the policing of other peoples’ opinions. Why do you care if x hates y story if they’re not insulting people who do? Why?

This isn’t what fandom is supposed to be. I know it has always had its problems, but there was a time, I swear, where you could dislike something and another person would say “cool. I disagree but you’re entitled to your opinion”. There was a time where people could dislike a storyline or character without being insulted, belittled, and bullied, and a time where they could dislike a character or story without insulting, belittling, and bullying others to do that. There was a time where people could voice a desire, like a certain LI or plot point, without there being 20 passive-aggressive posts about how their desire is invalid. That doesn’t happen anymore.

Half of why I dislike HSR so much is my interactions with the fandom. Do I think it’s massively overhyped? Absolutely. But my growing annoyance with the story overall has much more to do with the people insulting me over my own tastes than the story itself at this point. As far as I’m concerned everyone is entitled to their own opinions; I’m not about to make someone else cry because they dare to dislike my favourite story, or my favourite character (and believe me, he’s divisive, I know!) what’s the point? If everyone liked and disliked the exact same things I do, the world would be a boring place.

Anyway, I hope this wave of rage bait ends soon. I just want to go back to talking about stories without all the annoying… whatever you want to call it, again.
