Chop Tops, Kansas City, MO
Nestled in the heart of Kansas City sits Chop Tops Hair Company. I stumbled upon them through friends, but had driven past many times in curiosity. They have a well known reputation of being THE best hair salon and barber in Kansas City for four years in a row. There are two locations, one in Brookside and one in Westport. Both locations are in neighborhoods that thrive with local boutiques, restaurants and other unique Kansas City staples.
Walking into Chop Tops, you’re greeted with complimentary drinks which include PBR, wine or soda. Which come on, you can’t beat a free beer with your haircut. First time customers leave with a sample bag as well, stocked with coupons and products that the stylist used on you that day.
The owners Jim and Cindy Holopter started this business 10 years ago this year. They are very welcoming, fun-loving people that anyone can get along with. The vibe of the shops definitely reflect this. Rock and roll memorabilia deck the halls, and an impressive collection of velvet paintings adorn the walls. Anyone who walks in for the first time is easily taken back to the times when music was golden.
Chop Tops carries your favorite hair products.
Some of the work done by the ladies of Chop Tops.
If you have a chance to stop in, take it. And when you do ask for me :)

Fountain City Tattoo, Kansas City, MO
I stumbled upon Fountain City through friends who had gotten tattooed there. Located in the Crossroads, its a small brick front building complete with a skate ramp and skylight.
After looking through Instagram I noticed the work was always solid, the lines were always clean. I booked an appointment with Lacie last July and have been going back ever since.

Grant has gotten tattooed by Eric and Lacie, and is equally as happy. Lots of talent, always professional and music taste is spot on which is v important when you’re trying to zone out. The tattoo I went in for tonight was for Halloween, pics belowwwww

Grant Kratzer, Illustrator, 26
Grant attended Art Center College in Pasadena, CA and majored in Illustration and Design.
When I first saw Grant’s work, I was truly amazed. His work has a ton of detail and life. Looking at his work you can see his inspirations pretty clearly. He has quite the imagination and knack for making it come to life through his drawings. He has worked with companies such as Netflix, Thrillist.com and more recently Valley Cruise.
What’s your favorite project that you’ve worked on?
Probably the Bad Moon playing Card deck I made. The whole process was really cool because it was all new challenges. I had to make the drawings cohesive, use minimal colors and work with a tight deadline. It was fun to design something practical and timeless like playing cards. They sold out within 2 days of being up on the website. So that was pretty cool.
Who or what inspires you?
Mick Jagger and Walt Disney. Both rockstars, both unique, and both followed through on their dreams in creating something so big they became a household name.
Side hobbies?
I have a van called “The President”. Lots of traveling and camping. Always finding the next adventure.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on a new Comic called “Le Frog Boys” that I’m pretty stoked about. It’s been a long time coming. I’m also working on a group show with local artists, Dustin Williams and John Malta that’s going to happen in Nashville early next year.
