i think there is some degree of truth to this in the sense that yeah ofc the environment you live in for 18 years has an effect on what you perceive to be fair treatment and how you express your boundaries & preferences in interpersonal conflict and such but it's a bit wild to see people implicitly treating the parent child relationship as continuous with an intimate partner relationship -- i think this is basically true lol but demands quite a bit more interrogation and response than "make the parent child relationship more niceys" -- and it's also extremely shortsighted and dare i say dangerous to try to talk about domestic violence & abuse without foregrounding the economic forces that trap people in these situations. which would in fact be another commonality between parent child and romantic relationships. when you psychologise like this you obscure the real forces at play and in fact offer an ideological shield for them

I firmly believe that my (Chinese) mom is more Italian than my (Italian) dad. She earned multiple advanced degree in Italian history and studied abroad to learn how to speak the language fluently. She fought for it. The hell did he ever do? He grew up eating slightly more pasta than other kids in the United States. He was born into it. Fucking nepo Italian

unfortunately i do think it kind of enjoy it when someone is so focused on not being a bad person in a very specific way that they forget to actually be any better than the kind of person they're trying not to be. yeah it turns out suffering doesn't make you a saint. fucked up i know.
