ATLA headcanon

Katara created her own style of waterbending by combining the other 3 elements, swamp bending, Northern style, and bits of original Southern style she recovered and bloodbending. It became the official Southern Waterbending style taught in schools for hundreds of years.

Just thinking about how in the Southern Raiders, Zuko was on the other side of the room from Katara when he went running over to save her from the falling rocks, and how no one else, including Suki, who was standing much closer to her, really noticed the danger, therefore, unless he was just most vigilant, and considering how much he does the rest of the episode, it was very likely Zuko might have been staring at her.

“I was the first person to trust you, remember?! Back in Ba Sing Se, and you turned around and betrayed me!” (Another one taking place during Southern Raiders but this time it’s after Zuko and Katara’s heated argument where Katara makes sure to let Zuko know just how much his betrayal hurt her. Filled with regret he decides to do everything he can to earn that trust back.)

when katara and zuko fight at the end of season one in the north pole, they're equals. when zuko betrays katara and they fight underneath ba sing se at the end of season two, they're equals. when they team up to fight azula at the end of season three, they're equals. they are so great together because their growth as benders is tied together and measured together; katara goes from a nobody to a prodigy as she fights zuko & zuko goes from a well-practiced but struggling firebender to a true master of his element. literally every season of atla ends with them and their bending prowess & displays how they are opposite and equal. they are so powerful

zutara is the enemies to lovers trope without the toxicity, with a genuine redemption arc, with two characters who actually help each other grow, where they’re well and truly equals in both power and personality, where neither has to sacrifice what makes them special to prop the other up, where both have a loving and supportive network that would encourage instead of hinder their relationship -

zutara is like peak ‘enemies to lovers’ that is miraculously both wholesome af yet filled with delicious angst and honestly, nothing’s ever come close to just how incredible it is and we’re just spitting facts here, friend.
