Oh Krade. The weather is just wonderful here. Spring is beautiful.

But this is... surprising to me probably even more than to you. When CC shut down, I changed my name and kind of the direction of my content I didn't expect to hear from you ever again. But I haven't forgotten you, just a few days ago I was talking about you with a friend "that person that always wrote lengthy anonymous letters to me on CC before it was shut down". I'm thrilled right now.

”A wonderful man he's brought the German nation to greatness”  The curious look on your face was replaced by one of happiness and satisfaction.

“Heinrich Himmler” you quietly repeated to yourself as you strolled back into the house. 

A Lot had changed since that day, now you were much older and no longer a carefree teenage girl. The outbreak of war changed much of the nation's lives. You were also now a supporter of the regime your obsession with Himmler played a key part in this. Ever since you saw him that day something within you changed. You began to be completely devoted to the fatherland or rather him. 

You had been sat at your desk typewriter in front of you quickly typing up a report that had been handed to you earlier this morning. You'd been around halfway through the long report when someone had approached your desk. That person was none other than Himmler himself. He looked down upon you with a stern and cold expression. You stared back at him as you opened to speak he abruptly prevented you from doing so.

“Get up and follow me now” he ordered before quickly turning to walk away.

Your gaze shifted to the papers in front of you. You quickly stood up, accidentally hitting the desk while doing so. 

“Sir what about the rep-” he suddenly stopped walking not bothering to turn around 

“Forget the damn papers, that's not what I told you to do” he spat fed up with you now. You apologised profusely before hastily walking to keep up with him. 

It wasn't long before the two of you reached his office. As the door opened you were quickly shoved into the room causing you to lose balance luckily for you, you were able to grab hold of the couch that stood against the wall which prevented you from falling to the ground.

Do you trace? 😣 I don't mean to be rude at all, I love your art either way. I am just perplexed at how you are able to draw so accurately. The proportions in your art are so exact to the reference, its impressive! I also admire your shading, its minimalistic but very effective. Reminds me of gesture drawing. It really gives your art such a distinct style.

I actually don't think the accuracy in my drawings is very good haha! I think especially when looking at my "comparisons" post you can see the differences... I don't mind that though, because I take artistic liberties anyways and it enhances the features I pay particular attention to when drawing him.

When it comes to tracing, I do sometimes map out the main features digitally to use alongside the refrence. This can look something like this:

This helps me see the shapes more easily especially those that blend in with the backround etc

The easiest way to help with proportions is to mark and learn the main "points" that make up the picture

With these simple dots you can map out the composition and proportions on the picture. If I owned a projector I'd probably project these points onto my canvas for bigger pieces because it's an easy way of mapping something out (Methods like the grid or doodle method are more tedious to me, especially when going for a more loose look anyways). There's no shame in these kind of guides, professional painters have been using them for centuries afterall.

I do find that overanalyzing the refrence can make it stiffer and less 3d in the end, I've made pieces I'm not very proud of through that. My go to way is to just... go for it! use a bit of a guide like I demonstrated here but ultimately confident lines will do most of the work when you want to achieve something stylistically similar to me.

I want to add that I've never been in any art course, and can't source any tutorials or books on this because I really am just a random hobbyist. But this is my experience with making the sort of art I do. Thank you very much! I really appreciate it and love talking about my process.

My favourite piece I've ever made is this one and I think it's also one of the least accurate ones I've made.

PS: you can definitely see me make use of proportional points once you know XD. I think you can easily guess where I placed them in these.

Comparisons

My personal style reflects what my eye immediately catches. I don't use many lines, no huge amount of time goes into these drawings, and I don't strive for exact accuracy at all. Because in these drawings, you can see why I find him beautiful, why he is my favourite model. And plain and simple, why I love him.
