How to survive the lecture
I know that attending the lecture is not always the most fun thing, but it is one of the key aspects that will influence  your academic success. So have a nice breakfast/lunch, grab a coffee, put on a “Legally Blonde” attitude and get your head in the game.
How to prepare before the lecture?
if you know what will be disscused, read the material before attenting the class
write down any questions you have and keep them close to you during the lecture, because they might get answered; if they don’t, ask them during the seminar
if time, take notes and bring them to class
if you are provided with a power point presentation or with lecture notes, also bring them with you
if you have little time before the lecture and you haven’t took the time to read/take notes, skim through the material at least to get a sense about what the teacher will be talking about
What to do during the lecture?
punctuality is a great skill to have – so always show up on time, make sure you have time to take all your stuff out, to open your device, open word etc.and when the professor comes you will be fully prepared
sit in the first 2 rows to avoid distractions
if you don’t understand something, write down the questions you have -> if the teacher accepts questions during the lecture ask them right away or at the end, but if the teacher doesn’t accept questions, wait until the seminar to bring them up
don’t focus on the teacher, focus on the topic; the topic is all that exists while you’re in class, nothing else
examples are really important – concentrate on them and try to imagine how they work; write them down
don’t spend time trying to take pretty notes, you can rewrite them later or edit the document later
when writing things down, I personally believe that is better to write a bit more than just the key points if you don’t have any extra sources to rely on; I think it’s important to “capture” as much information as you can, because your notes will make much more sense this way
What to do after the lecture?
summarize your notes, make them pretty, read the chapters in the book, add more notes; this will provide you the exam notes

Family law 💕 There are 3 more days before a test that will decide the fate of 20% of the final grade. I only read about 200 pages out of 330. And when I'm done reading, I have to repeat everything. Most likely, I'll make some mind maps and some really condensed study guides. It's gonna be such an exciting weekend...not 📖🆘

Criminal procedure. I had my 3rd lecture today and I am really proud of myself for staying on top of my readings so far. And as a bonus, I actually find criminal procedure quite interesting. I have a feeling that this is going to be a good semester 💙📖

10 College/Law School essentials
1. a laptop or a tablet with keyboard
This is really basic, but having some sort of an electronic device is going to make your life way easier.
2. a bag or a backpack
It should be sturdy and big enough to fit all your books and other stuff you need to carry.
3. binders/notebooks/folders
You need any organizational system that suits your personal style for your notes and handouts.
4.calendar/planner/agenda
This is really important for your time management and for remembering when you have your tests/exams/due-dates.
5. highlighters/colored pens
Highlighting, underlining, color coordinating... they all makes studying a little easier and puts your visual memory up to work.
6. index/flags (for the Codex)  + sticky-notes
Using flags to annotate important/usual articles in the Codex will save you time. Also, adding sticky-notes with important information related to the articles will help you understand better the meaning of them.
7. headphones/earphones
They are really useful when you need to zone out while you have to work in a public space (cafe, library, in school).
8. snacks + hand sanitizer
If you have to spend a large amount of hours in school or if your courses are 2-3 hours like mine are, you will get hungry. So having a snack with you (preferably something healthy) and a hand sanitizer to clean your hands for the "feast" will be a life saver in those situations.
9. water bottle
Staying hydrated will help you stay focused.
10. a usb stick
I always use my usb stick to be able to print my documents/courses.

How to study in groups
Trying new study methods can only be good for you. If you like it, you have one more instrument to enhance your knowledge and if you don’t like it, you know that in the future you have to avoid any similar methods.
Study groups can be really helpful if you are all determined, responsible and serious about the meetings. A study group will provide support and feedback. Also, it will make you more disciplined because you won’t show up to a meeting unprepared (that would turn into a really awkward meeting and the people in your study group will probably avoid you from that time on). Another perk of studying in groups is finding gaps in your knowledge and filling them with the help of your mates.
How many people should be in a study group?
in my opinion, study groups should be rather small – 3 people I’d say is the magic number; this way, everybody will have plenty of time to be the one talking and there will be just one discussion at all times (when a group is made up of 4 or more people, there will probably be side discussions and that is not productive)
How to choose the right people?
the people you choose to form a study group with should be disciplined, focused, motivated; also, they should be open to meeting regularly (however often you all decide is the best; but don’t compromise too much – if you could benefit more from meeting like every other week, don’t choose people who want to meet only once a month)
How to prepare before a meeting?
in advance, you all have to decide what are you going to discuss at the meeting (for example, at the first meeting you will be discussing the first 3 chapters)
study those 3 chapters: take notes, make a study guide, make mindmaps – just make sure that you come fully prepared to discuss the subject of matter
and most important, in my opinion, write all the questions you have about the material
Where should you meet?
a coffee shop or someone’s place are really good choices
if you can’t meet in person, skype and google docs are good choices
How should a study group session look like?
bring all of your materials
don’t stay on the phone, focus and listen at all times, so you make the most of your time
to stay focused use the pomodoro tehnique (for example, set a timer to study for 50 minutes, then relax/socialize for 10-15 minutes)
make a plan – before starting to study, make a to-do list that you have to complete by the end of the meeting. This will make the meeting more organized
How to study with the group?
ask each other the questions you wrote at home. This way you will get a different perspective on the subject and you will easily understand whatever you struggled with on your own
have a Q&A session that covers the key points
create a study guide together
create a mindmap together
teach each other different topics
make flashcards and turn them into a competition/game
find old exam subjects and solve them individually – then discuss them to see how everyone answered

Law School: time management ( 10 basic rules + extra tricks)
Time management is one of the key skills that a student should master. Better managing your time and making the most of it is also a skill that will come in handy for the rest of your life.
Basic rules
1. Use a planner or a calendar or the electronic version of them
A planner will help you keep track of your assignments/due-dates/tests/exams.
2. Choose your day-off of the week
Having a lazy day when it’s all about you, and 0 about school is a must. Relaxing helps keeping you motivated and keeps your energy bar full for the rest of your week. My relaxing time is Friday night (mainly because most weeks I spend it on the train) and Saturday.
3. Prioritize your tasks
This means that you should do the most urgent tasks first. And also, when you have the choice, do the harder stuff first.
4. Learn to say “no”
If distractions come up, don’t let yourself get tempted. If you plan something scchool related, then you should stick to your plan.
5. When planning, choose realistic and achievable goals
Don’t plan to study 3 chapters a day if they are long and need more time. Plan to study small chunks and make sure that you can fulfill 100% whatever you have planned.
6. Make daily to-do lists
I make my lists every night, before I got to sleep. This way, I feel fully prepared for the next day. To-do lists will show you the things in perspective, you won’t forget any major task, you will feel in control and you willl have a list of things you need to do at hand at all times.
When making the list, try to estimate the time it might take you to finish every task and write it down. Then, keep your list with you at all times and whenever you have a “window” of free time in your day (if a 2-hour course is suspended, for example) you can pick something from that list to do depending on how much time you have to fill.
7. Use a crossing down system
When planning, use a crossing down system to feel the beauty and joy of accomplishing the tasks you’ve assigned yourself. This will keep you motivated and excited about finishing your list.
8. Take breaks
Don’t neglect the power of taking breaks, so don’t forget to squeeze these on your schedule as well. Also, make sure that you set aside enough time to nurture your social life and your hobbies, and keep in mind that balance is the end goal.
9. Break down your tasks
Break down your tasks into smaller mini-tasks and try to accomplish them one step at a time. For example, when you have to study for a test, your mini-tasks should consist of chapters/sub-chapters.
10. Overestimate the time you need for a task
This way, you will allow yourself time to transition from a task to another and be prepared for any unavoidable distractions that might come along the day.
Extra tricks
wake up early in the morning, so that you have more time during the day
pay attention in class, because it will help you a lot while studying and this saves you time
reward yourself when you achieve your goals and you get the grades you’ve worked for
study groups is a really good idea to stay accountable and study in time. If you schedule a group study session, you will most likely show up prepared to avoid any awkward situation
set “fake” deadlines so that you avoid the stress of having to do stuff last minute. I usually make myself believe that my exams are one day before than when they are set.
if you have the time and mood to do extra, do it. If you have planned to study 2 chapters today, but you could still go on and study 3 chapters, do it. This will give you some free time later in the week.

Is it really worth it to highlight the edge of each flashcard so they can be colour-coded by theme with a matching binder clip?
Yes. Yes it is.
