Did you know that if you are involved in selecting flooring for a building, even if it's just switching spec, you have a legal duty to ensure the safety of those using that building? That means you have a responsibility to ensure floors are not slippery, and if you get that wrong you could face litigation.

As part of a £70k refurbishment project, St Christopher’s School in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, has used Altro Wood Safety flooring – a brand new wood-look safety floor – to retain the traditional timber character of its dining hall.
The school has many different Altro products already installed throughout the premises. These include a wide range of vinyl and resin floors and wall cladding. The products have performed very well over the years, so when it came to selecting new flooring for the refurbishment of the school canteen, there was no hesitation in specifying Altro products.
St Christopher’s Estates Manager, Lee Varley, said: “The existing dining hall floor was timber, but as part of the new build we needed to find an alternative that met several key criteria. There is a lot of timber in the construction of the building, so our priority was to retain the traditional wood feel by using a floor that was in character and looked like wood.

Altro floors and walls have been used in the construction of a brand new butchery academy at the Brian Etherington Meat Company Limited, in Cornwall.
The Brian Etherington Meat Company is a long-established business providing award-winning meat, poultry and catering products to customers across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, including Michelin-starred restaurants and a host of prestigious hotels and conference centres.
The new build, which is part of a £700,000 expansion by the company, is intended to train the next generation of butchers in the declining art of traditional butchery by offering a wide range of courses.
Altro products were recommended by Nathan Campling, Director of Eden Flooring & Interiors. "I know the MD Mark Etherington very well and we have done a number of refurbishment projects for him over the years," explained Nathan.
"When the company was talking about building a new butchery academy, Mark approached me and asked for my advice. I had no hesitation in recommending Altro floors and walls for the project because the products are reliable, great value for money, the company provides great tech support and back up, and in all the years I have worked with Altro, their products have never failed."

Last week, Danielle Ashton from our marketing department and I travelled to Tunbridge Wells to meet with celeb chef, Rosemary Shrager.
Rosemary and head chef John Rogers have recently opened a cookery school for professionals and for the general public and called us back in January for help!
John had heard that our products were the best and wanted to explore the portfolio. They chose to have Altro Timbersafe II along with Altro Stronghold and Altro Whiterock in their various kitchens at the cookery school.
Now all of the products are in, we went to take some pictures and have a chat with Rosemary about what she thought. Little did we know that shortly after arriving, it was our turn to get our hands dirty!

Medal winning athletes may have scooped all the headlines at the Olympics last year but the team who made London 2012 a national success also have reason to celebrate a once in a lifetime experience.
A lot has been written about the 200,000 workforce of security forces, stewards, volunteers and the participants in the opening and closing ceremonies, but few of the specialist organisations responsible for supplying the infrastructure to the Games have been publically recognised.
Construction of the venues involved considerable redevelopment of existing sporting venues and the regeneration of urban areas with the focus on the construction of a new 200-hectare (490-acre) Olympic Park on a former industrial site at Stratford, East London.
Behind the scenes, 100,000 contractors, selected and appointed by the London Organising Committee Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), were involved in the development, renovation and fitting-out of sites and making them fit for purpose.
One such organisation was the leading flooring supplier, Altro - the only manufacturer of PVC safety flooring approved for use at the Games. A total of 50,000m² of Altro Safety flooring were installed across 33 of the Olympic venues in, and outside of London.

It means so much to be recognised by our customers as the leading manufacturer in the UK Construction industry – and although we have won this prestigious award before, our success seems even more special in these difficult economic times when the competition is so fierce!
I know from talking to so many of our customers personally that you truly appreciate our genuine customer focus and also the fact that we so clearly support taking responsibility for safety, hygiene and sustainability.
