Shaunas reaction to Melissa getting shot is the most Shauna response I've ever seen. Instead of staying with and helping the girl shes basically girlfriends with, she chooses the selfish route and joins the hunt. Shauna cares about Melissa; she wants her to stay alive and will threaten others in order to keep things that way, (toxic yuri save me) but she doesn't want to actually put in the effort. She delegates it to Mari because although Shauna cares, she doesn't care enough. Her own priorities will always be above Melissa. She just expects Melissa to take those scraps and not complain even though Shauna offers no real love or support to somebody that would have pulled that arrow out for her. It literally feels like their whole relationship dynamic condensed into one scene.

Is anyone else noticing the similarities between Hannah the frog scientist and Shauna? Both have a knack for being unfaithful to their partners and a tendency towards cheating, and both went through a teen pregnancy. That can't be accidental, the writers are definitely trying to do something with these two. I wonder if Hannah is going to try and get to the root of Shaunas mind and understand her or at least act as a parallel. Also, knowing that Melissa got close to Hannah makes me think that she plays a big part in Shauna and Melissas inevitable break up. I'm interested to see the wilderness dynamic and how it bleeds into Shauna and Hannahs daughter also.

When Callie told her mom that she's the same age Shauna was when they crashed, it 100% destroyed Shauna more than she let on.
She now has to face the fact that at this point, her daughter is just as capable of the evil that she was. Shauna wants to believe that she is the only person that could comprehend her trauma, but here is Callie who could totally go to the same lengths as Shauna. We've seen Callie manipulate and mistreat people to get what she wants, just like her mother. Shauna is horrified by the possibility that Callie could ever do what she did, because if there's one thing we all know about Shauna, it's that she hates herself more than anybody else. To see that mirrored in Callie must have ruined her.

Something about Lotties character which I will die by is that she is not meant to have a romantic relationship. Yes, shipping is fun and I do ship pairings with Lottie in them, but I understand that they never will nor should happen in the actual show.
A major part of Lottie Matthews is that she is on her own spiritual/ psychological journey that nobody else on the show can comprehend to the extent that she does. She has always felt separated from the girls because her number one priority has always been to understand her visions, the wilderness, and the forces that she believes exist above her. A romantic relationship would not serve this arc and could never be as important to her as her spiritual exploration. It's interesting in fanfic to see all of this explored through another character helping her through it, but the real canon Lottie could never be swayed so much by another person.
The closest we've seen to it is Laura Lee, but their relationship is not intended to be romantic. It's spiritual, it's an incredibly impactful catalyst for the way she views the world, her mind, and the wilderness. It is not necessary for it to be romantic. For a character like Lottie, it makes the sense that she is never paired up with another character in that way. She has always felt isolated; it is purposeful and it is done to show the audience that Lottie's journey has always been her own. Simplifying her complex story lines down to who her best girlfriend would be frustrates me, because I feel like most of the time that shipper disregards the rest of what makes her character so interesting.
Lottie Matthews is supposed to feel like she's on her own, going through something completely separate from the other girls. Her story could never revolve around another person. It should stay focused on her spirituality, psyche, trauma, her connection to her suffering, and how all of that shapes her behavior and affects the ones around her in the process.
I love all the ships that have come from this show, I just feel that to fully understand a character like Lottie, people have to look past romance. Knowing when to balance head canons and the reality of the piece of media can make analyzing so much more interesting and thought provoking.
