sera sat next to pamela with her coat collar turned up and damp curls plastered to her cheek, a steaming paper cup nestled between her hands like it might anchor her to the moment, or at least make her seem more normal. rain hit the awning above them in steady rhythm, soft and relentless. 'funny place for a sanctuary,' she said, voice low and just a touch bitter. 'guess beggars can't be choosers,' eyes flicked toward the neon palm readings and protection spells sign buzzing quietly above them. it threw pink light across the puddles at their feet, casting everything in a weird kind of warmth. 'i used to think places like this were just a scam,' she added, glancing sideways at pamela, 'but then again, i used to think the worst thing in the world was a broken promise. turns out, hell’s got layers,' the corner of their mouth quirked up, wry. 'you think this place has anything strong enough to keep something like me away?' @inwire.

ash blinked, one hand still wrapped around the neck of his beer, the other halfway to adjusting his busted up belt buckle. he looked at cat like she’d just spoken in a language he didn't understand — not offended, though slightly confused, and momentarily frozen in a way that suggested his brain had to reboot. 'the hell it is,' he said finally, squinting toward the jukebox as if the answer might be hiding there. some twangy, blues drenched classic hummed low under the bar’s chatter, the kind of song that only came on this time of night. 'this song’s about a guy gettin’ dumped and his truck breaking down. i’d hardly call that perfect, darlin’,' but she was already tugging at his sleeve, that unbothered grin of hers saying she wasn’t taking no for an answer. ash glanced around, not at the people, but the exits, like he was calculating if embarrassment was worth a fire escape getaway.

he sighed, running a hand through the mess of his mullet, then muttered, 'you know i got two left feet and one of ‘em’s always drunk, right?' still, he set the beer down, grumbling more for show than resistance, and followed her out into the sticky glow of the bar’s makeshift dance floor. 'alright, alright. but if i step on your toes, i ain’t liable. you brought this on yourself,' and damn if the way her eyes sparkled didn’t make him grin, just a little. maybe the song wasn’t so bad after all. @espurreso.

dean let out a short laugh — not mean, not mocking, but rough around the edges, like gravel under boots. he leaned back against the impala, arms folded, the cool metal steady beneath him as he looked over at josephine with that familiar tilt to his brow. 'yeah,' he said, tossing a half empty flask back into the passenger seat. 'i know exactly what’s out there. that’s the damn problem,' he ran a hand down his face, then pushed off the car like this conversation weighed enough to put a dent in his trunk. he took a step closer, eyes catching hers in the dim light bleeding out from the nearby cabin. 'you think i’m not afraid? hell, i’m terrified. every single time i send sam into a hunt alone. every time i hear a branch snap behind me. every time i see something wearin’ a face that ain’t theirs. but i don’t get to stop and feel it. i’ve got people to keep alive,' his jaw tightened. 'the dark’s full of monsters. we both know that. but we’re what’s between them and everyone else. so yeah — be afraid. but don’t freeze. don’t back down. 'cause the minute we do?' his voice dropped, low and serious now. 'they win,' @stilloves.

salem didn’t look up right away. instead, they kept flipping through the frayed notebook in their lap, fingers stained with ink they've been thus far unable to wash off. a low hum of static whispered from the busted radio on the floor as salem tried to drown out the static in their own brain. when they finally glanced at dean, their gaze was sharp beneath tired eyes. 'y'know what? yeah,' they said, voice dry. 'i do have something to say. maybe walking into a nest of vampires without backup is a dumbass move, even by your standards,' their mouth twitched, not quite a smirk, but close. salem snapped the notebook shut with a soft thud. 'and i wanna know how long you’re planning on bleeding and pretending you’re not. 'cause i’ve got gauze, whiskey, and a very low tolerance for martyrdom today. so pick one,' they tilted their head, leaning back and crossing their arms. 'or you can keep playing stoic and i’ll start lecturing you until your ears fall off. your call, winchester,' @bledgrace.
