For those who don’t know Deidre (the blonde,query) and nina (the black haired one,echo) are two henchwomen Eddie has held an extreme fondness for in the comics. Eddie met them while robbing a store and the two were two gals that happened to be robbing the same store.

And like I have so many ideas? Diedre worked at at bdsm club known as Pandora’s box and nina was a biker chick and it’s so funny to think about interacting with Arkham Eddie.

Like the two complaining about helping to place all the riddler trophies but genuinely caring about him and trying to make sure he takes care of himself especially by the time of Arkham knight.

Diedre still moonlighting at Pandora’s box and ratting out other criminals too Edward and helps him recruit more handlers

Nina happens to be riding by one of Eddie’s racetracks and stopping by to tease him and see if he needs anything

And willingly staying with him during during city of fear because they genuinely believe he can kill Batman this time.

I think it's mainly because they are the same consciousness and both of them hate Elizabeth. Elizabeth chose to take the substance because of how she felt within herself and that same feeling of hatred doesn't magically disappear when the consciousness transfers to Sue. Being Sue is like a drug for Elizabeth and that's why she takes as much as she does. Similar to drug use, at some point, the high becomes worth the loss of the balance and the pain she'll have to experience when she goes back to Elizabeth.

one thing I don’t understand about the substance is why elisabeth keeps letting sue take from her. I mean it’s clear that just because sue is the better version of her and “they are one” doesn’t mean she is her when she clearly has a mind of her own. so elisabeth created her but she’s more like “her daughter” (while at the same time she’s not actually her daughter) than she is “her”. like at first I thought it was elisabeth’s mind in sue’s body, so that it was still elisabeth just in a younger body / younger version of herself. but like… that’s not the case because sue can think and while sue is elisabeth, she’s also her own person and elisabeth does not control her.

I would have terminated the first moment I found out how this worked if I were elisabeth lol like why would you want to sacrifice this much for “something else” who was created from your dna when that something isn’t even technically your child but a weird creation from a shady drug that used your dna. what do you gain from that?

about The Substance

since the Academy Awards i have seen an uptick in discussion surrounding The Substance. there are several people who are calling it a bad film and saying it didn't deserve any nominations.

i hate them.

the biggest critique i see of the film is that it is "over the top" and "heavy handed" and i think that what people are severely missing is that that is the fucking point. the film is meant to be campy as hell, incredibly on the nose, a little goofy and a little ridiculous.

the reason it is supposed to be like this is that this is the exact point the movie is trying to make.

for those who haven't seen this disgusting little work of art that i do so love, the overarching theme of The Substance is its critique on women's beauty standards set by Hollywood and the increasingly dangerous and harmful ways that women are going about meeting these beauty standards. at the start of the film, we see Demi Moore's character, Elizabeth, standing in front of a mirror and absolutely hating herself. it's ridiculous! she's older, but she's still gorgeous and in shape. but that's the point. she wants to replace herself with the younger version of herself and quite literally butchers herself to do so. the film follows from there getting more and more over the top and disgusting.

as a licensed cosmetologist and someone who used to work in the beauty industry, the reason the film is so disgusting and over the top is because it wants to point out how disgusting and over the top the beauty industry has become. i worked at a tanning salon for about half a year and i swear to fucking god some of the women who would come in were absolutely gut wrenching to look at. i'm talking about skin that is spotted and red from over tanning, faces that have been completely puffed and deformed to the point where you could barely see their eyes from all the filler they've gotten, lips that looked like they were about to pop, massive, rock-hard boobs and asses on a twig body-- and they don't see it themselves. if they see a problem, the media just tells them to cover it up with more filler, more surgery, more rhinoplasties, more liposuction, more more and to move along until they need to get their next fix. it's literal body horror! right in front of our eyes! but we don't give a fuck because somehow it's empowering to encourage women to do this shit.

i fucking hate the beauty industry because in no way is it empowering to disfigure yourself for this shit. it's not empowering for women to get rhinoplasties to make themselves conform to some bullshit standard. it's not empowering to encourage Asian women to get rid of their monolids. it's not empowering to convince women they have to shave down their fucking jawline to fit some stupid fucking standard.

it. is. body. horror.

this is what The Substance is talking about. it is a ridiculous fucking film because the beauty industry is fucking ridiculous. it's a critique on a capitalist system that funds itself on tearing down women and slapping a "feminist" label on it, because the moment women started to become more confident in their own skin, capitalists had to put a fucking end to that because how else are they going to make money???

if you hate The Substance because it's "too over the top" you didn't watch the movie the right way.

in a similar vein, i saw a woman make a video on TikTok about how she regrets watching the movie with her boyfriend because the whole thing was "softcore porn."

that movie was fucking disgusting!!!! fuck you if that's all you took from the movie! after a certain point, it became literally nauseating to see a naked Margaret Qualley, not because she isn't stunningly gorgeous but because of the severe consequences that follow seeing her walking around instead of Demi Moore. this film trains you to dread seeing the young, gorgeous replacement for the very real woman that had to basically kill herself to get there. i think that's genius!! i'm pretty staunchly against showing women's nudity in film for the sake of shock value and getting more sales but The Substance made a fucking damn good and artistic point every step of the way with this movie.

i also saw someone say that the movie didn't sell much of a message to them because Magaret Qualley wasn't "hot enough."

fuck you. get off the internet and cancel your veneers appointment, fuckass.

anyways i loved this movie and i'll defend it to my dying breath. it addressed one of the biggest issues in American society and people just don't wanna fucking hear it.
