i am once again thinking about fullmetal alchemist chapter 60

I recently went to a convention’s Artist Alley and, while waiting to sell something (spoiler it didn’t happen), I started sketching some of my favorite characters and I did my precious girl.

I am getting out of the longer artblock I’ve ever experienced and nor digitally nor on paper I can draw as I’d like. I tried polishing the pencil sketch as much as I could, fixing up all of the mistakes and misproportions I drew Prilla with. She’s absolutely my favorite character from the Disney Fairies franchise and I recently applied to @tinkerbellzine and I thought I should get back in shape drawing fairies.

I always loved how gracious the fairies looked in the illustrated books and I envy those poses, I noticed that my drawings look really stiff and I’m working a lot on that aspect. I’m pushing myself on anatomy, perspective and color, which are my weakest points. I can see an improvement over the last years and I’m happy with what I achieved but I can do so much more! Never stop studying and drawing and getting out of my comfort zone have always been my best allies in learning how to draw.

Helen finally has a last name and a state alchemist name! Woohoo!

Helen applied to be a state alchemist to get more resources to study her concept of soul alchemy. She ended up getting the title, but because of her basic alchemy and her overall skills and understanding of alchemy in general. In truth, it was to keep an eye on her since her concept of soul alchemy could’ve become a threat to the homunculi’s plans.

Before I’ve introduced Helen as Jung’s love interest, but she is FAR more than that. Helen is a huge alchemy nerd, he’s incredibly intelligent and skilled at performing alchemy and she has a massive hunger for knowledge. To her alchemy is something that should be used for the people and she seeks to understand it to help others.

Some more fun facts about her:

• Helen became a state alchemist at least seven years before Ishval started and she would’ve NEVER supported what happened there (she was taken by Drachma 4years prior though)

• Helen not only was the first female state alchemist, she also stuck out because she was the strangest one of them. Most of them wanted the title for prestige, but she only wanted it to become a bigger alchemy nerd.

• A bit random, but: The one who teaches her the basics of alchemy was Hohenheim! This happened way before he settled down in Resembool. This isn’t relevant for the plot, just a fun litt coincidence

Religious iconography is definitely influencing my art. There's just something in halos, in saviors and saints that is slowly turning my brain into glue.

Posting this right away before I start hating it.

It's a fanart of my fanfiction - specifically of chapter 10 which I rewrote for perhaps the third time today (im an indecisive bitch) . It's pretty ironic how the fanfic itself is something so unserious and fundamentally ironic, while the fanarts feel like an omen of death.

I'm still having trouble figuring out what design I should give Plo Koon - more Legend comic like or mixed with something else - I'm still imagining all this.

AND I'm refining my drawing for Maul Week 2024. I already did the drawing at the end of May and I'm still improving it. Not forgetting Maul at all, don't worry. I will post on the last day of Maul Week 2024, so August 3rd.

I'm currently on my annual vacation, having less time to draw.
