Automatic Lubrication System Makes Manual Lubrication Obsolete
Tumblr media
It has been over 70 years since Airmatic Inc. opened its doors to industrial companies in need of products and services used in the storage, conveying, processing, and transport of bulk solid materials. At the request of a New England feed mill, Airmatic Inc. conducted an ROI investigation into the benefits of using automatic lubrication systems as opposed to manual lubrication systems of critical production equipment. Using a bucket elevator with two support bearings for its head pulley, the feed mill lifts different kinds of grain products off the ground up to 40 feet to the top of its silo storage system. The grain is then separated into different silos and mixed for species-specific animal feed. Due to the amount of grain lifted on a daily basis, lubricating the elevator's pulley bearings to keep them running smoothly is an important part of operation. The problem in this case revolved around the frequency and manpower needed for manual lubrication of the bearings; at the New England feed mill, it had to be done every two weeks by a maintenance worker. The worker had to climb the silo using a safety harness and a 40-foot ladder. The worker then hand-pumped the pulleys with grease for lubrication. The system was considered to be dangerous and inefficient because it demanded more than an hour of maintenance labor, and required precise timing and attention to detail. Failing to lubricate or over-lubricating the bearings leads to production loss and possible damage, not to mention the possible injuries the worker may incur. To solve the problem, two ATS ELECTRO-LUBE’s ULTIMATE LUBER™ Automatic Lubricators were installed – one for each bearing. With the new lubricators in place, the bearings were constantly lubricated for up to 6 months, while receiving positive pressure lubrication over the bearing points. With its transparent design and LED indicators, workers can check the lubrications from the ground instead of having to climb up to the pulleys. Individuals interested in learning more about ATS ELECTROLUBE's ULTIMATE LUBER Automatic Lubricators can call the company at 800.332.9770 or send an email inquiry to [email protected].

Airmatic, Inc., Introduces Martin Conveyor Belt-Powered Generator
Headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania, Airmatic, Inc., has been involved with grain-handling equipment since 1944. Today Airmatic, Inc. also serves the bulk materials handling needs of public and private sector clients in areas ranging from paper mills to power generation. Airmatic, Inc. provides dedicated support, for example, throughout a belt conveyor's lifecycle and can also address design and maintenance problems associated with existing non-Airmatic systems. Committed to innovation, Airmatic, Inc., announced the August 2016 introduction of a Martin Engineering-designed conveyor belt-powered generator. With an emphasis on overcoming power production challenges, the system utilizes kinetic energy generated from conveyor belt movements in powering a full range of electronic systems. These include sensors for intelligent monitoring of operations, which are often tied to bulky cabled or wireless transmitters. The Martin solution is advantageous in that the independent generator attached is attached directly to one of the belt rollers. A magnetic coupling system allows for efficient installation and does not require reconfiguration of the overall system. This in turn enables remote locations to be guided effectively from a central facility. Individuals interested in learning more about the Martin Conveyor Belt-Powered Generator or other belt conveyor products can call the company at 800.332.9770 or send an email inquiry to [email protected].

Roll Gen System Uses Conveyor Belt to Generate Power
Malvern, PA-based Airmatic Inc. supplies bulk solids-handling materials and a variety of other equipment to business and industry, construction, government, and other types of clients. The company frequently partners with Martin Engineering, a globally known firm, to source equipment such as the newly introduced Roll Gen System. Through its long-lasting partnership with Martin, Airmatic Inc. now offers this innovative generator which is powered entirely by the kinetic energy of a conveyor belt. Employees using the Roll Gen System affix an independently functioning generator directly to one of a conveyor belt’s rollers so that it can take up energy directly from the moving belt. In this set-up, the belt can spin off additional power without having its physical or operational structures altered in any way. Roll Gen can be installed on almost any type of steel roller, and workers can retrofit it on pre-existing idler support machinery. This self-contained mini-power-generating system addresses a number of issues. A pioneering “smart” industrial device, it eliminates much of the complex work, and the cost, associated with running previous auxiliary power systems. Additionally, it permits workers to establish a safer, more easily monitored, and more autonomously powered operation. Individuals interested in learning more about the Roll Gen Self-Contained Mini Power Station for belt conveyors can call the company at 800.332.8770 or send an email inquiry to [email protected].

Airmatic, Inc., Installs Automatic Lubrication System at Feed Mill
Tumblr media
Based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, Airmatic, Inc., offers a full range of bulk-solids handling equipment and maintenance solutions. Airmatic, Inc., engages with both public and private sector clients, including power generation stations and paper mills. In a case study featured on the Airmatic, Inc., site, the firm assisted in the installation of an automatic lubrication system at a New England feed mill. The existing system involved bucket elevators that lifted grain products up to the top of silo storage units. These conveying systems required manual lubrication every two weeks. In order to grease the bearings, employees climbed a 40 feet high steel ladder and undertook maintenance lasting more than an hour. As dangerous and difficult as this work was, neglect of the bearings was not an option, as feed production would be halted if they failed. Taking an on-site survey, Airmatic, Inc., application specialists came up with a system of automatic lubricant dispensers that provided consistent lubrication over extended periods. This not only made manual lubrication unnecessary, but provided enhanced protection against the infiltration of contaminants and moisture associated with over-lubrication.

Solving Sugar Flow Issue through Inflatable Seat Butterfly Valves
Based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, Airmatic Inc is a women-owned company that meets the needs of public- and private-sector clients for quality bulk-solids-handling services and equipment. The Airmatic Inc website features a number of case studies that illustrate specific situations in which the company was able to solve operational issues. In one noteworthy case, Airmatic, Inc., engaged with a Delaware food manufacturing facility in resolving a butterfly valve problem. Employed in regulating and isolating flow, butterfly valves can be closed using a disc mechanism. Opened, the valve enables material to flow through unimpeded. The processing of highly abrasive sugar through rail-car-linked hoppers resulted in the premature wearing of the food manufacturer’s butterfly valves. Assessing the situation, Airmatic Inc advised the replacement of all installed standard butterfly valves with inflatable seat butterfly valves by Posi-Flate. Rather than employing friction to form a seal, this type of valve employs air pressure to seal, delivered through an inflatable seat. After a pair of such valves had been successfully installed, a dozen more were ordered. In addition to maintaining a tighter seal, the use of Posi-Flate valves enabled production to continue even when required maintenance was undertaken.

Silo Cleaning Solutions Available Through Airmatic Inc.
Since 1944, Airmatic Inc. has provided clients across a range of sectors with industrial machinery, serving government, commercial, construction, utility, and industrial markets. As such, Airmatic Inc. understands the various issues that industrial companies face when it comes to keeping silos clean. Silo cleaning is the mechanical removal of blockages and buildup to keep the storage containers safe and efficient. Regular cleaning ensures that silo capacity is maintained and materials are discharged correctly. In addition, cleaning helps to ensure that materials do not clump or chunk. Buildup and blockages can occur in several different ways and through different materials. The best method for cleaning depends on the situation at hand; four primary approaches to cleaning exist. First is the HD Bin Whip, which allows for the dislodgement of stubborn materials from outside the vessel. Technicians are trained to use this technology to prevent damage to the vessel lining or bottom or to avoid entering a hazardous confined space. Silos can also be cleaned acoustically, which involves the use of a Sonic Horn driven by compressed air. A range of fundamental frequencies and alternating soundwaves can cause dry particulate deposits to resonate and become fluidized. For the most severely clogged silos, technicians may use a hydraulic bin drill that is remotely controlled. This type of drill creates a flow channel through tough clogs and works at depths up to 150 feet. After drilling, the HD Bin Whip is used to complete the clean-out. The final option is the Chunkbuster Cartridge, which dislodges blockages using the rapid expansion of carbon dioxide gas.
