AAAAA THIS IS SO SWEET! The amount of thought you put into these?!!! Omg ! I love the dark shell symbolizing Mordecai protecting Benjmain, that was so poetic! Ben would hold onto it his pocket lol he does love little knick knacks!
Assigning jewelry I found on Pinterest to my mutals' ocs
Amber kind of inspired this, as I kept seeing cool insect jewellery I think she would wear. I feel this one represents her though. It has a butterfly motif which Yancy has said sometimes represents Amber. I don’t know the exact size from the pic but it looks like it fits a bit tighter around the neck like a choker (which have a Victorian/Regency vibe to me) and the oval/circular pendant are also reminiscent of this. I also felt that there being multiple pendants also symbolizes her Chrysalis gang with the center pendant being her.
Benjamin is a small child and I don’t think hes super into jewelry at the moment but I saw this baby chic in an egg pendant that reminded me of him. The egg opens and has the chick inside so it has an interactive element that I think would be cool to a kid. Its very cute and innocent but the darker silver egg around it reminds me of Moredcai protecting him.
I haven't known Cassie and Bailey long and I’m not as familiar with them so I put them together, this one is mostly vibes tbh. They escaped a bad situation recently so a running rabbit was kind of symbolic of both the situation the ran away from. The rabbit being in a rectangular inset could also symbolize a cage. Bailey also has a bunny plush so it felt right. There are also two pearls attached to what I think is supposed to be a tree also represent Cassie and Bailey and them being part of the same family tree( siblings).
Luc already has kind of a signature jewelry which is his heart locket necklace. So this is a bit more of and this one stood out to me. Forget me nots of course symbolize everlasting love and remembering loved ones. The everlasting love makes me think of Katherine which can take on a sinister connotation as well. And remembering loved ones as reference to Luc starting to forget people as The Curse™ overtakes him. At least that what I think is happening from the cryptic tidbits of Luc lore 4U has posted.
Maríanne of course gets something snake themed. Its very straight forward snake with an apple for some of that original sin symbolism and trees, apples and snakes are a big part of her story. While this is a ring I really like the idea of this design as a bangle because it can also be a golden shackle. Really hone in on the snake going from a symbol of safety to one of entrapment.
Maura is a lover girl and I felt she needed something that wasn't to serious. So a simple pendant with a white flower and some young love symbolism fit her. I can imagine her fiddling with the pendant every time shes about to see Rocky.
Millicent reminds me of a bird always flying here and there, and pearls a lot for some reason. Shes very outwardly elegant and typically feminine so i wanted something that captures that. Though this broach is more reminiscent of a bug the wing motif is still there. If there was a bird on the back instead it would be perfect.
Amber: @yanci-indigo
Milicent and Benjamin: @aghostnamedclamity
Cassie and Bailey: @funfairsundaes
Luc: @tohot4u
Maríanne: @ahhhh-118
Maura: @rudnitskaia

WOOHOO HEADCANONS!
Maybe the sølje could be one of the few family heirlooms he's held onto 🥹💖
A while ago Calamity told me they headcannon Joey as being of Norwegian decent and I wholeheartedly approve. So here’s Ace helping Joey get into his bunad.
Putting on a sølje is easier when someone else does it for you and its a neat way to have Åse and Joey interact. It ended up looking kinda domestic so now the discord server is down with ÅsexJoey lol, sure why not.
Heres a link to the first post i made about what a bunad and a fest drakt is. if anyone wants to read about it but all you need to know is they're for the most part different things and Ace's outfit is a festrdrak and Joey's is technically a bunad.
on Joeys outfit:
According to Calamity: ‘’I imagine his parents immigrated to the US with his grandparents when they were still young and then met in the US through community’’ which could probably put the time they emigrated around the middle of the 1800s. The modern idea of bunads didn't start appearing until the start of the 1900s and kept developing from there. So most likely his family wouldn't have any bunads to pass down, but maybe some clothes that could be put together to make a bunad.
So I based Joey's on the Oslo 1892 bunad. (Its almost the exact same except for the number of buttons) which was invented post 2010s but was based on fashion from the wealthy in 1890s. Considering the hypothetical time line of when Joey’s family emigrated the suit jacket and vest probably didn't come with them from Norway but the knit socks, søljes and pants could.
The silver jewelry on his neck is called a sølje, i gave him two different types. One is based on the sølje that usually comes with the Oslo 1892 but with a few artistic liberties. The second is a heart sølje that looked like a heart with either a crown or two birds facing each other above it. It was used all over the country but some places more than others like the more southern parts of the country. It was also often a gift given to a lover, maybe it was something one of his grandparents gave to the other.
on Ace's outfit:
I have already designed a fest drakt/bunad for Ace and in that post I mentioned I couldn't find an outfit from the area to base it one so I took some innspo from the Telmark bunad instead because of the color and embroidery that I felt matched Ace’s personality. I did eventually stumble upon a bunad from the are Ace grew up in. The Toten bunad, so I redesigned her Fest drakt based on it. Its not a one to one copy so its technically still a festdrakt.
I still got to add some embroydery but instead its svartsøm on the shirt (or whats supposed to be a simplified representation of it). The apron and band around the waist are woven in a style called tavlebragd which gives it that geometric pattern.
I also gave Ace a headband this time around since her hair is to short to braid when she’s older. So now she still has something going on with her hair. Its just a normal green hair band. Would have added embroidery to it if her design wasn't getting a bit cluttered with all the patterns.
I could explain away the difference in Åse’s festdrakt by saying her old one got lost when they emigrated but idk. I might come back to it and design a new one for her younger self at some point.
As mentioned in the first post im not a clothing historian so some of this might be wrong. I tried simplifying some of th patterns on aces outfit so theyd be easie to redraw so they might not be 100% accurate. I know I also could have just designed a new outfit for joey like I did with ace instead oif basing his on a bunad that wasn't even invented before the 2000s but it takes a lot of energy and research and I’m tired.

Would Viktor like Benjamin?
I think he’d just tolerate him more than like him. Viktor seems a bit tired and Benjamin has a lot of energy that can get exhausting sometimes. He really wouldn’t want to interact with him all that much but wouldn’t dislike him!
I keep talking/thinking about a scene where somehow Viktor/Mordecai end up in a tense stand off but ultimately Ben goes home safe with Mordecai without any casualties. I don’t think Viktor capable of anything heinous like that. I’m probably never gonna draw it, it’s very off canon now, but it would have had these vibes:

What's the reason to why Mordecai would have ever slept with Millicent?
Long story short: mistakes.
Short story long: their relationship is a complicated one, and the mistake was kinda on purpose but kinda an accident. Neither Mordecai nor Millicent are prone to desiring commitment or relationships in my head-canon; they both value their independence too much. BUT they were still drawn to each other in a way I suppose. The best description of their relationship I can find (a friend helped me pinpoint) would be “queerplatonic”. Why would Mordecai decide to have an intimate relationship with Millicent? Honestly, I always assume there was just poor decision making at the time due to some alcohol involved. And maybe a bit of curiosity. I say it was on purpose because at the time I’m sure it seemed like a good idea. And I say it was an accident because it probably did not seem like it had been such a good idea very soon after.

What was Mordecai's first year taking care of Benjamin like? Any interesting or funny highlights?
It was complicated, to say the least. Took a whole lot of getting used to a new situation! As for interesting highlights; before he crawled Benjamin just knew how to inchworm backwards. Mordecai figured if he was gonna be doing that he might as well help clean the floor, so he would place a rag under him to dust on his circular paths. So I guess Benjamin spent a bit of his infancy inadvertently cleaning the floors lol

If this hasn't already been asked, what is Benjamin's favorite toy? If he plays pretend, what kind of stories does he gravitate towards?
His favorite toy is his stuffed bear named Mookie! Most of his play-pretends revolve around playing doctor, especially after Mordecai bought him a Little Family Doctor kit.
Here’s a little snippet of the fanfiction where Mordecai purchased Benji his stuffed bear! For context, Benji was just recovering from the flu and Mordecai visited an A&P store that were getting popular around this time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The black cat swiftly made his way through the vehicles passing by and came up to the large promotional signage decorating the store, gingerly pushing the doors open and entering.
As a first impression, he was unimpressed. It really wasn’t much different than the stores he was used to albeit a bit larger and whole lot whiter. He could only hope the hype was more in reference to the product available than anything else. It was, in fact, rather strange to see articles of clothing being promoted alongside dry food products.
Mordecai made his way to the counter as he continued to look about himself. The young attendee was a bright, yellow-haired girl wearing puffy sleeves and an apron with the company logo embroidered in the corner.
“Good morning, sir!” she greeted cheerfully with a large smile. “Welcome to A&P - the modern way to shop and the sure way to save! What can I get for you today?”
Mordecai stared dumbfounded at the girl, not quite sure whether he liked receiving a greeting as part of a promotional slogan or not.
“I’d like some tea,” he finally responded. “Earl Grey herbal. What brand do you carry?”
“What brands do you prefer?” the girl said. “We cater to your personal needs!”
“Twinings,” responded Mordecai, feeling himself becoming mildly agitated at the excessive joyfulness of the attendee.
“You’ve got it, sir! I’ll have it ready for you at the cash register,” the young lady said as she turned and weaved through the endless rows of shelves and boxes behind the counter.
Mordecai shook his head lightly as he watched with displeasure. As a second impression, he was still unimpressed. And, frankly, verging on developing outright dislike for the establishment.
As he waited with his arms crossed at the register, he let his eyes wander around the array of items displayed for customer viewing behind the counter and on the wall. At the window, a variety of toys sat and dangled, beckoning children to drag their unsuspecting parents into the store.
There was a stuffed bear with brass button eyes propped on a stand, staring out into the passing crowds on the street. He had brown fur and wore a bright yellow hat and raincoat with feet just a little too large for the rest of his body. Mordecai stared at the toy, pondering why a bear would need a hat and raincoat. And if he did need a hat and raincoat, why wouldn’t he need rain boots?
The black cat thought he recalled Benjamin going on about something regarding a bear that had a coat of some sort. He wasn’t entirely sure. Usually he’d just zone out when his son was being particularly talkative or passionate about some hyperfixation. But he did remember him ranting about someone wearing a coat and making funny voices on the radio.
“Do you like our new Mookie bear?”
He almost startled as the same attendee from before interrupted his focus. She had in her hand a tin of tea that she set in front of him on the counter.
“Mookie?” Mordecai questioned in confusion.
“Oh yes!” she continued and quickly grabbed the bear from where he was propped up. She brought it back to the counter and extended it out in front of Mordecai. “This is Mookie! He’s very popular right now. He’s got his own talk hour on the radio. The kids love him!”
Mordecai slowly reached up and grabbed the bear that was being offered to him. He held it in both hands as he stared at the layers of clothing it was wearing. Under the raincoat, the bear wore navy pin-stripped pants with a white collared shirt and bowtie. He was a very well-dressed bear, Mordecai noted.
“Toys are on sale today!” the young lady edged on in a sweet, encouraging voice.
“How much is it?” he asked.
“This little guy retails for $1.50 regularly, but today you can take him home for just $1.30!”
Mordecai grimaced. “That’s a bit steep for a stuffed bear, don’t you think?”
She shook her head in response. “Not for the most popular toy of the year. I’ll tell you what. If you decide to take him right now I’ll give you a discount from my manager! You can have him for $1.20.”
The black cat squinted at the bear as he pondered whether he really wanted the thing in his home. The bear looked nice enough, he supposed. The quality felt decent in his paws. He was also a quiet toy, which was something Mordecai continuously found himself on the search for. No shaking or rattling or whistling involved. Nothing to encourage his already-too-loud child to get over-excited with. He sighed dejectedly.
“Fine,” he said, handing the bear back to the attendee. “Just add it in with the tea.”
The girl quietly but excitedly clapped her paws together with a big smile before grabbing the bear.
“Wonderful!” she said, returning the bear to his place in the window. “I’ll be just one second, let me grab one from the back.”
Mordecai contemplated for a second and wondered whether he’d just been brainwashed or not. Would this constitute a brainwash? He shook his head in response to himself. He was fairly certain he was smart enough to avoid falling into up-charging schemes. The bear was nice enough, he justified himself. Benjamin would enjoy it.
He’d just grabbed the tin of tea that’d been sitting on the counter to inspect it when the young attendee popped back in holding an elaborately ribboned and wrapped gift box. She placed it on the counter in front of Mordecai where the tea had sat.
The dark furred feline stared at the present in confusion. He pointed at it and turned to look at the girl.
“What exactly is that?”
“It’s your Mookie bear!” the girl responded, beginning to add the costs onto the cash register.
“Yes, but why is it wrapped? I didn’t ask for it to be wrapped.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, sir!” the girl said. “I assumed it was for a child. Was it for you?”
Mordecai furrowed his eyebrows at the girl. “No, it’s not for me. I just don’t need it wrapped!”
“I see,” the young woman responded, placing one finger on her cheek. “Well, sir, I could always…unwrap it for you, I suppose. It’s standard company procedure to wrap toys and clothes I’m afraid. However, I should warn you that the cost of the wrapping is already included in the cost of the product and I unfortunately won’t be able to deduct that. Would you like me to unwrap it for you, anyways,?”
Mordecai sighed in despair, officially deciding he no longer cared for this store and would possibly never purchase anything here again.
“Just tell me what I owe,” he submitted, pulling out his wallet to try and get this transaction over with so he could leave already.
He felt ridiculous lugging the present around the rest of the walk home. It wasn’t a particularly large box, but it was so needlessly bright. Any chances of inconspicuousness vanished as it contrasted vividly against the darkness of the rest of himself. He grumbled in discontent as he made it home. It didn’t help that, thanks to the crowds of people alive and bustling at this hour, he felt the need to take an extra long detour to his home to ensure no one was watching him and this stupid clown box.
The black cat felt the exhaustion in every part of himself as he hung his house key on the hook by the door. He frowned at the box in his arm before tossing it on the couch dismissively and beginning the process of hanging his outwear
Very good post with wonderful information!!
The layered psd version is what I used and it works well with *most* drawing programs
Lackadaisy oc bio card tutorial and recources
This is probably going to be very short and sweet but i struggled putting together my oc bio thing and i noticed other people doing so as well, so i figured putting together a quick tutorial would be helpful to some.
You're also welcome to stray from any of these pointers and make your bio card your own unique thing. I’m sure as hell not gonna stop you.
Blank template:
heres a blank png template but if you want to track down the original png heres a more detailed walkthrough on where to find it
there is also a layered psd version with all the individual paper peices
Font:
The font used for the name is binner and the font used for the description itself is sequel sans I believe.
