September, go home, no one asked for your opinion…
Anyway, I guess it’s over :,( Adrinath August ended before I could say “Finally, August is here”. Rude.
I personally didn’t get to participate because my to-do’s took a lot longer than I expected… but that’s not stopping me from posting something eventually! So, don’t hesitate to get in the prompts you didn’t get the chance to complete, heck even tag @adrinathaugust , Adrinath should be year round right??
I think my notifications are fixed now too, so it should work better :D
Still, don’t think I’ll have anything up soon, so for now take this messy gif

Adrinath August Day 19!
@adrinathaugust Day 19: Makeup Artist/Face Painting | Sweet
(A day late because I forgot to post it yesterday oops >.<)
“Adrien, if you keep smiling, it’ll mess it up.”
The 20-something year old man who had walked up to his face-painting booth that day tried to force a neutral frown onto his face, but the trembling of his lips and twitching of his cheeks made Nathaniel lower the paint brush so he could laugh. The blonde broke into laughter a moment later.
“Hey that’s not fair!” he complained through his giggles. “How am I supposed to keep a straight face when you’re laughing??”
“Didn’t you say you’re a model? Isn’t that your job??”
Pretty green eyes that reminded him of spring rolled with a smile. “Yeah, but keeping a straight face takes all the joy out of it! That’s work, and this is play. It doesn’t feel right to suppress my smile here.”
“Alright alright, that’s fair,” the artist admitted. “But for the record, you sit still worse than the kids whose faces I usually paint.”
It was a slow Thursday afternoon at the zoo where Nathaniel worked when this guy had walked up with starry eyes and asked him to paint his face like a cat. He had thought it more than a little strange—he very rarely had clients above the age of 12—but the excited look on the man’s face was also very endearing. And cute.
Mostly cute.
And seeing as how there weren’t very many people visiting the zoo, he had no qualms with taking his time to talk and get to know this strange attractive stranger.
He had just raised his brush again and was going toward the model’s nose when he replied, “That’s just because the kids aren’t trying to flirt with you.”
Nathaniel’s hand stopped and he blinked in surprise. Those pretty green eyes went wide a second later and a blush immediately sprang to his cheeks. “I just said that out loud, didn’t I?” He nodded. “Oops.”
“You’re trying to flirt with me?”
“Yes. Is that bad? I know some people get uncomfortable being hit on in their place of work. I’m sorry, I should probably just leave you alone or—,”
“I have a lunch break in about an hour,” he blurted out all of a sudden, feeling far more bold than usual due to the man’s candidness. The blonde blinked. “Want to get lunch with me?”
He nodded. Then they finished the face painting in an awkward, blushing silence.

Adrinath August | AU Yeah August Day 20!
@adrinathaugust Day 20: Piercings | Sour
@auyeahaugust Day 20: Coffee Shop AU
“Adrien, can you get the register?”
“On it!” he called, quickly putting down the mug he had been washing and drying his hands on his apron as he rushed to the counter. It was probably the busiest day the coffee shop had seen in ages, from the group that had decided to hold their business meeting there that morning to the two people that had called in sick. He, Nino, and Luka were doing their best to hold down the fort, but they were spread terribly thin until the next shift arrived.
“Hi! What can I get y—ooouuuuu?”
Adrien’s mind skidded to a halt as he looked up at the young man at the register. Shit shit shit shit shit!
It was their new regular who had come in at varied times every single day for the past month. The really hot one with the teal eyes and the red hair and the piercings—the piercings! Two gold studs on his eyebrow, three rings on his left ear, four and a cartilage on his right, and—catching the light as he opened his mouth to order—a purple jewel on his tongue.
Fffffffffffffffffffffff—
“I’ll have a medium mocha,” he said, smiling in a way that made Adrien want to die. And kiss him. And die some more.
“Medium mocha,” he repeated, scribbling that down with a sharpie. “For…Nathaniel?” he peered up from under his safety wall of blonde hair to see the guy smile again except it was a different smile this time and this one made his entire stomach turn to goo.
“Yeah, but you can call me Nath.”
He nodded his understanding and tried to make his handwriting legible despite his trembling fingers.
A minute later, as he began preparing the drink, Luka’s voice came out of nowhere. “Dude, you’ve got it baaaaaad. Wanna know what I do every time I think a customer is cute?”
“You mean every time Marinette comes in?”
“Shut up. And yes.” He leaned in conspiratorially to whisper in Adrien’s ear and the blonde blushed.
Five minutes later, he called, “Mocha for Nath,” and pushed forward the mug with a heart drawn into the foam on top.

Adrinath August Day 17!
@adrinathaugust Day 17: Hate Comments | First Kiss
Read it on AO3 here!
cw: homophobia
Nathaniel never thought he would experience full-fledged love at only 17 years old.
They were in their final year of schooling when he finally worked up the courage to ask out a literal model. It didn’t matter that they had been friends for years, that they had grown close, or even that he knew the model would be nice and remain his friend regardless of his answer; he was still so nervous he was dizzy. But out in the park on one of their usual hangouts, the artist handed him his heart on a piece of paper with shaky hands. He knew it was cheesy and cliché and making it in the first place even made him feel like a 12-year-old. But the two of them had just watched (and loved) an anime that did this the other day, so it was more like an inside joke than anything.
Except it wasn’t a joke. The manga-styled drawing of the two of them holding hands and the question floating above it “Will you go out with me? _yes _no,” was all meant in complete seriousness.
They shared their first kiss minutes later.

Adrinath August Day 16!
@adrinathaugust Day 16: Reward | Text
Vrr vrr.
Plagg grumbled as he was awoken again by the vibrations of the boy’s phone. He tried to lay still and slip back into his sweet sweet cheesy dream, but a moment later the boy’s giggles pulled him permanently into the waking world.
The kwami blinked groggy eyes at the alarm clock.
“Kid,” he said, annoyance thick in his tone. “It is 2:04 am. Go to sleep.”
When he received no answer, he looked to see Adrien staring at his phone with a giddy smile, furiously clicking away. Was he really still texting the art boy? How were they still finding things to talk about when they’d been talking for five hours?
“Kid,” he repeated, a little louder. Big green eyes popped up, practically sparkling with that look of young love Plagg had seen on his charges a million times. “You have a photo shoot in the morning.”
The young model blinked in confusion, then gasped as he checked the time.
“It’s already 2 in the morning!?”
“Yes, and—,” he stopped as he realized the kid’s attention was already back to his phone. With an annoyed sigh, the kwami floated over to sit on his shoulder and read his texts.
A: Omg it’s already 2 am! How are you still awake??
N: What do you mean, you’re awake too XD
N: And I’m usually up this late.
A: How are you not dead in class?
N: That’s my secret captain
N: I’m always dead
The boy shook with laughter underneath him as he typed a response. Plagg rolled his eyes and went back over to his pillow. Looked like the kid’s makeup artist was just going to have to cover the shadows under his eyes in the morning.

9: Secret Admirer (for @adrinathaugust )
(Alternatively known as: Unrequited Gay Pinning For A Person You Can’t Have)
It was the end of Valentines Day when Adrien noticed a pale simple paper card. It wasn’t extravagant, it wasn’t overly decorative, it didn’t have any extra gifts attached. It was a simple card paper with an inked bouquet of roses, the only colour being the bright crimson splashed over it. The back of it had no name, reading: “if you knew who I really was, you’d probably throw this in the trash. But the problem is I’d still love you all the same.”
This piqued Adrien’s interest. And they were piqued even more so, when more notes started filling up his locker. Sometimes sketches, sometimes fully inked portraits of him, sometimes paintings of cats. At the back of each was a message reminding Adrien that he could never really love that person, that Adrien himself should be against it. The notes kept coming. Adrien kept getting them, that is, till his birthday.
When Adrien’s birthday came around and he made his way to his locker, or tried, since there were so many people around it. There was a enormous canvas leaned against it, with him painted on it. Every stroke, every detail was exquisitely created and he could not take his eyes off the portrait.
The note that day, however, read: “I’m sorry, I won’t bother you anymore. I’m moving out of town.”
And under that, in red ink: “Love, your secret admirer, Nathaniel.”

16: Reward (for @adrinathaugust )
(Alternatively known as: I’m gonna pull an all-nighter but my dumb boyfriend wants me to go on a ride with him and I can’t say no to this)
Nathaniel figured that art theory was going to be hard, that was why he had prepared flashcards and study guides for this very day. Practicals has gone surprisingly well and they had even allowed him to work with mixed media, like he specialised in, instead of just focusing on one test per medium. His project, a collaborative effort with the writing students was now a hit graphic novel - thanks to his amazingly talented partner, Marc Anciel, who’d written up a cool Ladybug comic, much like the scenarios he’d often dreamed of. They’d become fast friends, and both Nathaniel and Marc had opened up a lot to each other and shared a lot of similarities.
He’d only just stepped inside the library, wondering why Marinette was so late when the girl herself rushed in, panting and really out of breath.
“Sorry,” She huffed. “Some pretty-faced motorcycle idiot with a bunch of chocolates stole my parking space.”
As she said this, a pretty-faced boy wearing a white jacket with the sleeves rolled up and fingerless gloves, hopped off his motorcycle and tousled his blonde hair. Nathaniel took one look at the boy and did a double take. You had to be kidding. Why was he here of all the places to be tonight?
Marinette turned to see what he was looking at to see her offender, the parking space thief. With a sideways glance to Nathaniel, she had barely managed to get out the words “Do you know him?”, before the blonde noticed them and with a wild wave, ran over to them.
Nathaniel quickly tried to cover his face to no avail. Motorcycle idiot had already managed to reach them, throw his hands around Nathaniel an bury his blonde his in the crook of Nathaniel’s shoulder. Marinette looked on in shock but also not. I mean, motorcycle idiot could have been here for anyone; it just happened to be Nathaniel.
Nathaniel looked at Marinette with ‘please help me out here’ written all over his face. Marinette wasn’t exactly sure how to do that, but she might as well do something, right? So she went and said the first thing that came to her mind.
That just so happened to be - “Hey Nathaniel, who’s this?”
Nathaniel sighed. It was clearly not the question he was hoping for. Struggling to get the blonde kid to stop hugging him, he only proved to be more trouble by placing his hands on Nathaniel’s waist, causing the smaller male to squeak.
Nathaniel lowered his head in defeat and gave Marinette her answer.
“This douchebag,” he said, glaring daggers at the blonde boy whose mouth was getting dangerously close to his ear. “Is my boyfriend, Adrien, who was just about to leave so we can study.”
Adrien stopped and pouted, his hands messing with Nathaniel’s hair before the redhead slapped them. Adrien did not like this development. He wanted to spend time with his boyfriend, not for him to spend time with some blue-haired girl.
“But Nath,” he whined, pulling the small redhead even closer to him. “I just wanted to spend time with you! Sometimes I feel like you love your books more than me.”
Nathaniel sighed. This was going to be difficult. But Adrien did have a point, he had been buried in his books all throughout this month. Before it gets worse (like Adrien picking him up and carrying him all the way home) he decided he should settle for a truce.
“Okay, Adrien.” He sighed, hoping the half-smile he had on his face due to his insufferable boyfriend wasn’t showing. “I will spend time with you.”
Adrien’s eyes lit up like Christmas lights as his smile grew impossibly wide.
“But after I finish studying for three hours.”
Adrien’s smile vanished as he rolled his eyes but moved to go to his motorcycle. Before he actually went anywhere, he bent down to Nathaniel’s level and slyly whispered in his ear something that made Nathaniel want to die of embarrassment in that very spot.
“Call me for help when you start on anatomy, ‘kay?”
And there again was that flirtatious smirk, something Adrien would never stop throwing his way. Nathaniel would never admit it, but it was rather cute. And the look on Adrien’s fangirls’ faces when he walks up Nathaniel and kisses him is simply priceless.
Marinette turn to the redhead and says, “Tell your boyfriend to stop stealing my parking space.”
By the time the two have gone through the history of art, the foundational stories of scores of paintings and have just started on basic proportions the clock on Marinette’s phone reads 10:59. At exactly 11:00, Adrien bursts into the library, hands full of chocolate boxes. Laying the stack on the table, he gives a knowing smile to his significant other as Nathaniel’s expression represents the entirety of done-ness when he lets out a loud groan. Heads turn and when Adrien apologises for his boyfriend the group of girls at the nearby table are more than okay with it. In fact, now they’re super into their studies. Studies of Adrien, I mean.
Nathaniel eyes the boxes of chocolate. Mocha caramel. Of course, Adrien always knew what he needed as a perk-me-up at any given point in time. Perfect boyfriend, as always.
Adrien sat down at the table, pulling up a deck of flashcards they hadn’t touched yet.
“Okay, so I’ll quiz you?” Adrien phrased it like a question, but there was no getting out of this. “If you get them all right, you have to get out of here. No cheating, I know when you know an answer.”
And so it began. With Adrien’s emerald eyes staring into his soul, it’s not like he could lie. After going through four stacks and getting everything correct, Marinette gets a call from her parents and leaves. Adrien huffs in annoyance as Nathaniel gets more stacks of correct answers.
“Look, Nath” Adrien says, eyes sparkling. “Let’s go for a ride.”
Before Nathaniel even reaches for his bookbag, Adrien’s hand has taken his and pulled him pretty close. Way too close.
“No more books, tomato.” He smiles, taking Nathaniel’s hand and jogging back towards the entrance where his motorcycle is parked.
Jumping on, he turns to Nathaniel, hand outstretched.
“What are you waiting for?” Adrien asks. “This is your reward for studying so hard.”
This time, Nathaniel doesn’t say no.

Adrinath August Day 15!
@adrinathaugust Day 15: Fears | Fight
Read it on AO3 here!
“Hey, Nath?”
Those teal eyes popped up from the sketch book to look at him curiously. He immediately caught the nervous glances he was taking at his body position, ensuring that Adrien’s feet were properly hooked onto the beams of the railing he sat on so he wouldn’t go toppling over the edge. Nathaniel still analyzed little details like that every time he put himself in some precarious position, despite the fact that he’d done it a million times, both in and out of suit.
“You’re afraid of heights, right?”

Adrinath August Day 10!
@adrinathaugust Day 10: Wrong Number | Music
Read it on AO3 here!
I never loved the piano. I didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t my passion like it’s supposed to be.
When I was little, I would watch my mother place her fingers on the keys, and I knew even then that I didn’t love the piano, because I could so clearly see what it meant to love the piano right there in front of me. She wasn’t just playing an instrument, she was conversing with a dear friend, caressing a loved one. Sometimes she would close her eyes and the gentlest of smiles would don her lips and she would sink into the music, letting go of past and future and thought to just be present in the moment. To hear and enjoy and immerse herself in the beauty she was making.
I always admired that. But I knew from the start that the piano would never be for me what it was for her.

Adrinath August Day 9!
@adrinathaugust Day 9: Secret Admirer | Taste
Short and sweet <3
“So the song is building and building and building, and you’re thinking, ‘okay, here comes the drop.’ But it never drops! It’s infuriating!” Adrien laughed as his best friend talked about a new song he’d heard. The bell dismissing classes for the day hadn’t even finished ringing when Nino had picked up his rant right where he’d left off during lunch. Now the boy waved his hands wildly about as they walked to their lockers. “It’s almost painful with how little resolution there is, but like, that’s the point! I hate it, but I also mad hard respect it, you feel?”
“That sounds pretty cool,” he said as he opened his locker. Nino opened his mouth to keep ranting, but stopped as the two of them both had their attention drawn to a tiny envelope falling out of the locker.
Adrien’s stomach fluttered as he bent down to retrieve it.
“Ooooh, another one? How many is that now?”
His blush flared up as he carefully opened it. “Thirteen,” he replied, a sheepish smile on his lips.
“Man, thirteen. That’s crazy. And still no signature or anything?”
Adrien unfolded the piece of paper inside to reveal a detailed pen sketch of a cat whose tail curled into the shape of a heart. It was awfully cute, and in his mind he cataloged the fact that whoever it was somehow knew he liked cats. The only words to be found on the entire thing were the same three that appeared down at the bottom of each one.
“Nope,” he said, “Still just Your Secret Admirer.”
When Adrien got home, he tacked the drawing up on the board over his desk to go with the twelve others he had received, making sure to leave room for more.

Nathaniel hated running. He didn’t think that was a problem most of the time, even when Kim made fun of him for his terrible times in PE. He didn’t even think it was a problem when he had to run from akumas.
But now? Now Nathaniel was realizing that his hatred of running was definitely a problem.
“Chat Noir!”
Because he couldn’t reach him fast enough.

Adrinath August Day 7!
@adrinathaugust Day 7: Domestic | Smell
Read it on AO3 here!
It was the little things that made Nathaniel love Adrien.
The smell of his cologne on the sheets. The smell of his cheeks every morning after he shaved. The smell of burnt pancake on Sunday mornings—because the first one always burns.
“Bonne nuit, mon amour,” every night before bed and, “Bonjour, mon amour,” every mid-afternoon when Nathaniel finally gets up.
The surprise kiss on the cheek when his attention gets completely absorbed in his artwork.
Ranting about new comic ideas and unraveling roadblocks together.
Thursday night experiments dressing up instant ramen together until it’s almost a real meal.
Sitting sideways on the couch working on his tablet with his legs stretched across Adrien’s lap while he plays video games.
Adrien’s head on his shoulder, sound asleep half way into Friday night anime.
The sparkle in his eye as he tries to explain unintelligible physics phenomena.
The weight of his arm around him as he sleeps.
It was the little things that made Adrien love Nathaniel.
The smell of his shampoo on the pillows. The smell of paint on his clothes, on his skin, on his hands. The smell of chocolate chip cookies at 1 in the morning.
The surprise hug from behind every mid-afternoon when he finally gets up.
Discussing the new things he learns in his physics classes.
Putting something new in the crockpot together every Wednesday morning.
Sharing space with Nathaniel while he works on his comics.
Waking up on the couch Saturday mornings tangled up in Nathaniel with anime still playing on the TV.
The passion in his voice as he shares new comic ideas and mulls over kinks in the road.
The warmth of his back against his chest as he sleeps.
The little things.

Adrinath August | AU Yeah August Day 6!
@adrinathaugust Day 6: School Project/Pair-up | Touch
@auyeahaugust Day 6: Hogwarts AU
Read it on AO3 here!
Marvelous Portraiture… Adrien looked up from the scribbled note in his hand to see what looked like an old, run-down cottage. Or a cottage that was never nice in the first place. Even the bricks that put the edifice together looked as if they had been haphazardly stacked, with some sticking out at odd angles and several not matching the others in color or cut.
Usually he would have just passed by the strange cottage without sparing it so much as a second glance. He would even assume it abandoned. But the hand-carved wooden sign that hung crookedly from one loose peg over the door said otherwise.
Miraculous Portraiture, it read.
Scowling in confusion, he hoped this was indeed the shop he was looking for and stepped forward.
The old wooden door clearly never had any weather protection spells cast on it for it was warped and swollen from years of rain and snowfall, forcing him to press his weight into it to shove the thing open. It sprang loose from its frame, swinging open wide, and a dainty little bell jingled from above.
Whoa.
Adrien gulped a nervous lump down in his throat as a million pairs of eyes suddenly fell on him. When only one person aside from him was in the room.
Yep, he thought. This is definitely the shop.
The short, skinny frame of a redheaded boy who couldn’t be older than 16 or 17 turned, open and curious teal eyes tearing themselves from the easel in front of him to fall on the newest visitor.
“Um…Hi,” Adrien waved. His green eyes darted about the room, nervous and wary. The inside of the shop was about as disastrous as the outside, with way too many pieces of furniture, none of them matching, all covered in clutter to varying degrees. Cups of paint and dirty paint brushes were strewn about, and not a single surface in the room didn’t have stray marks or splatters on it.
But that wasn’t what discomforted the young wizard. What discomforted him were the walls lined with endless portraits, all staring at him with passive, bored eyes.
“Hi!” the boy greeted, way too cheery for the strange, morbid aura of the room. “Here to buy a portrait?”
“Um… No, I…” Adrien shook himself and tried to focus on the redhead as he spoke. “I’m here doing research for a class.”
“I see,” he replied, picking up a nearby hand towel and cleaning the paint off his fingers. “What are you researching?”
“I was hoping to interview the owner of the shop for my Business of Magic class.”
“Okay.”
Adrien stared at him for a second before continuing, “…Is he here?”
The redhead’s lips spread into a wide grin. “I am the owner.”
He blinked. “I’m sorry, what?”
“I am the owner,” the redhead repeated.
“You’re Nathaniel Kurtzberg? Owner of Marvelous Portraiture?”
“Actually, it’s Miraculous Portraiture, but yes, that’s me.”
“But you’re— you’re so—,”
“I’m so what?”
“So young!”
He laughed then, his cheeks taking a healthy pink color that Adrien thought was a little too cute. “Yes, I am,” he affirmed.
“How old are you? You don’t look much older than me…”
“You’re a third year at Hogwarts, right?”
“Yes, how did you know that?”
He shrugged. “Lucky guess. This year I would have been a fourth year.”
Would have..? “What happened?”
“I dropped out part way through my first year. The structure of schooling just wasn’t that great for me. I wanted to focus on art.”
Adrien paused, staring at the boy’s bright, freeing teal eyes in thought. A life outside of schooling was…never something he had even considered. Having been raised by the rigid, powerful wizard that was his father, the only possible path he had ever had was Hogwarts. He couldn’t even imagine what would happen if he dropped out.
He felt the strangest sense of admiration for the boy standing before him. Admiration and the slightest touch of envy. A life without strict lessons and rigid expectations, free to pursue his passions…
“So you chose to paint…living portraits?”
The smile that the artist wore then was the kind that people only wore when discussing that which they truly loved in the world. He had seen the look on his best friend’s face as he spoke of his music, or his friend’s girlfriend’s face when she shared the latest gossip. It was a smile he didn’t know if he would ever experience for himself. A smile of passion.
“Yeah,” he said, admiring the works around the room. “The living pictures were the best part of Hogwarts. The first time I saw them I knew I wanted to learn to create them myself. Someday I hope to be talented enough to bring people to life as real as the ones in the school. Portraits who will stay up late into the night sharing stories and deep conversation with you.” Then he brought his attention back to the blonde, scratching the back of his head nervously. “That’s still a long way away though. Right now my portraits just follow you around the room with their eyes. A few have spoken, but never much more than a simple ‘hello.’”
“How do you do it?”
Those teal eyes fell on him then with a sly smirk that suddenly had his stomach flipping. He looked to be thinking something over for a moment, before leaning in as if about to share some sort of secret. Adrien leaned in curiously. “Why don’t we discuss it over some butterbeer? My treat.”
“W-Wha— I-I— Um—,”
“You wanted to interview me, right? Let’s go.” And with that, the artist stepped past him and out the door.

Adrien’s attention was ripped away from the camera as a loud crash came from the other side of the room.
