Okay so I have a lot of explaining to do about why this came to me in my (personal) rewrite/redesign of Nathaniel but run with me now.

I gave Nathaniel really strong eyes that allow him to see a lot of things really well, mainly based off of my rewatch of Rogercop where he was literally nowhere near the bracelet but still sketched every detail accurately. Anyways, I decided, "oh he can see through the Miraculous Glamour," and have been thinking of him being the Unofficial Sidekick/Therapist of every holder because he makes a point to tell Marinette and Adrien that he knows its them.

Edit, 10/8/23: This is now an OC named Jonathan. This happens to me a lot where my headcanons get out of control. You can keep reading for an au if you want, though. I'm not gonna edit this. I think it's a little cute as an au

He tells Adrien, who does not care how. He's just excited to finally tell someone everything and complains about being a model and his father's behavior. I can imagine Nathaniel going, "My parents would love having you around for dinner" offhandedly and literally that night Chat Noir showing up with flowers and Nathaniel's siblings freaking out over a superhero standing in their living room. Adrien coming to Nathaniel's house when he has nightmares of being Chat Blanc that feel a bit too real. Nath being convinced by Adrien to wear the miraculous and Adrien complimenting his cool costume and fashion. Nathaniel was freaked out the whole time that he'd have to be Chat Noir for a fight and dropped the magic so quick.

He tells Marinette, and she immediately gets scared and spirals. He has to sit her down and explain that he can just see through the magic. She asks him to make up an excuse for her to skip out on classes and advice on how to be a superhero because he's more into the genre than she is. She tells him about Chat Blanc when she gets her first nightmare over it. She begs Nath before Hack San to tell Chat Noir for her that she had to leave and basically asking him tons of favors like babysitting for her if there's an akuma. Nathaniel being the only one to help collect miraculous because there's no way he wouldn't know who's who.

I only just had the thought of his dynamic with, say, Argos, or Queen Bee if she didn't reveal herself.

He still tells Queen Bee (maybe it's a redemption arc or something) that he knows and she shows up at his house, bragging about how she saved some guy from a mugger, wanting praise and validation and he goes, "you called me a cherry colored bitch today. That immediately negates the good you did."

Or, say she doesn't help Ladybug and Chat during akumas because they're on bad terms, and he's been trying to convince her to do the bare minimum and help civilians or something. Slowly, they start getting into fights more. Maybe she goes too far, and he outsmarts her, steals the miraculous, and gives it back to LB. Then Chloe and Nath start butting heads and arguing often in class a lot, but they can't say why, so it's never resolved properly. But Adrien and Marinette have thoughts.

Imagine Argos bursts in and starts gushing about Kagami and all the shit he learned about her and how cute she is because he doesn't have friends to talk about this with and decided, "well, he knows who I am already so," and Nathaniel is just thinking the entire time, "isn't he the bitch that pretended to be Adrien and got three people akumatized?"

Or he picks up the slack for the Ladyblog when Alya gets the fox full time even though they aren't friends in civilian form. He doesn't have an explanation to anyone why he's doing that, so he just runs away because he's not very good at this whole sidekick thing.

Nathaniel slapping Nino when he tries to reveal Alya's identity. Imagine Rocketear doesn't even happen because Adrien, being surrounded by his very best friend, counters Nino's reveal with his own reveal.

That part in Kuro Neko where Marinette freaks out over Chat Noir leaving? That entire episode Nathaniel is just exhausted. He's talking to Adrien about his decision. He's telling Marinette why he doesn't want the miraculous back. He's having to travel to each person's house to collect the Miraculous. Marinette might ask him to replace Chat Noir, so now he's gotta go to Adrien's house AGAIN and manages to get that part rolling, hopefully.

Wishmaker Luka immediately asks for Nathaniel's address, barges into his house and collapses on the floor because "Oh my Kwami, it's a fucking Love Square". Ephemeral definitely happens differently because Marinette's plan is something she runs by both Luka and Nathaniel. She is immediately shut down by Nath because it's against his code to reveal someone else's identity without consent. Or maybe Nathaniel is there at the secondary pick-up point with Luka and Su Han realizing that he has to know more and tries to threaten Nath to tell him who CN is. Nath's like, "Good point, but I'm not telling you. Go ask him yourself, fucking loser," or some stupid shit. My point is that Ephemeral probably is different or doesn't happen.

The dynamics are just funny to me cause Nathaniel is actually really tight-lipped about everyone's identity, and it doesn't matter who the person is to him. He'll keep it a secret. The only person he would reveal in a heartbeat is Hawkmoth, but he's never met him in person, and that's why Hawkmoth hasn't been jumped yet.

Actually, that weird KND scene with Nathaniel with the mustard gun would probably make him short-circuit, and it'd take him like a week to tell Adrien that that's his dad. Queue the series ending with Gabriel getting curbed stomped Owl House style by super-powered 15 year Olds.

Evillustrator would have to go differently though, either it just doesn't happen, or Nath just wasn't thinking about either of them, so Hawkmoth doesn't realize he knows, or Nathaniel is particularly unlucky during this episode. Either way, Hawkmoth is none the wiser.

Ranking the Miracucast by how well they'd cope with receiving a phone call from Marinette at 3 in the morning

Marinette: No, she's not exempt from this. She was most likely already awake, and knows that regardless of circumstance if another her is calling something Serious is happening and she will deal with it accordingly. But she would not be happy about it. 4/10

Alya: This poor girl puts up with so many late night Marinette phone calls. She is exhausted. But she takes it like a champ and routinely provides the support Marinette needs. It ain't much, but it's honest work. Someone please help her. 9/10

Adrien: Yes. 10/10

Nino: I can see Nino being quite the morning person. He would answer the phone and thoughtfully listen to what's going on. Then he would have absolutely no idea how to proceed from there. If Marinette is just calling to get some more Miraculous Muscle that's great, but if it's a problem that needs more brainpower then there will be issues. 6/10

Chloe: She needs her beauty sleep. If Marinette were to interrupt that sleep, the phone is going out the window. Screaming will be involved. Of course, knowing Marinette, Ladybug or Chat Noir is standing right outside to catch said phone to use in conjunction with a Lucky Charm to beat a supervillain or something. Ladybug knows what she's doing by now. 1/10

Sabrina: Would answer the phone thinking it was Chloe. Would be surprised to hear Marinette's voice instead. Sabrina is always eager to please, and would try to help... but most likely that help involves getting Chloe to do something. We will honor your sacrifice, Sabrina. 4/10

Mylene: For some reason I can picture Mylene being Absolutely Down to help Marinette hide a body, and would have the bag and shovel ready right as she answers the phone. I don't have any explanation for this. I really don't. I just feel in my heart it's correct? Mylene doesn't *want* there to be corpses to bury, and would sigh in relief when Marinette confirms she's calling for other reasons. But like. This still feels right. 7/10

Ivan: I don't want to say Ivan sleeps like a rock, but I think he sleeps like a rock. Sorry Marinette, that phone is NOT being answered. 0/10

Rose: Has custom ringtones for all of her friends and catapults out of bed the moment she hears any of those ringtones. Rose will immediately do everything in her power to help any of her friends at any time of day or night. Because that's what friends do. When Marinette asks her to do something oddly specific, she will do it without question and will assume it's Adrien related. She may or may not be right. 8/10

Juleka: Was already awake. May or not be aware of the passage of time. Her ability to function probably increases as the sunlight disappears, if we're being honest, so Marinette will be unnerved by this significantly more cheerful Juleka. This may or may not have an adverse effect on whatever Marinette was planning. 8/10

Kim: He will answer the phone before fully waking up. He will agree to anything Marinette says. He will say "okay, I got it" and then Marinette will hang up and Kim will finish waking up and he will have no idea what he's supposed to be doing. 2/10

Max: Marinette will be very frustrated with Max's auto-responder. Max would be happy to help, but Marinette can't figure out how to navigate all the weird options ("If you need help, press 2, if you need help with aliens, press 3, if you need help with homework, press 4, and if you need help with-") so it'll probably be a half an hour before he realizes he's being called. 3/10

Alix: Before receiving the Rabbit Miraculous, she would answer the phone and provide assistance with copious amounts of sarcastic remarks. Now that she has the Rabbit Miraculous, she gets her significantly more well-rested future self to answer the phone instead. And provide assistance with copious amounts of sarcastic remarks. Alix/10

Nathaniel: While he may not be crushing on her anymore, Nath would still be very eager to help Marinette. Unfortunately he is probably very tired and operating with a less-than-even temper so there will be problems. 4/10

Lila: The entire situation would be hilarious. She would not expect a call from Marinette this early in the morning, and would engage in Death Note-style mental gymnastics to try and figure out Marinette's goal. Does she need help? Why is she calling me if she needs help? Does she need something from me? She knows I would never help her, right? Or is she expecting me to not help and is just calling to brag that I'm not needed? Or, wait, um- Add this to the fact that she's probably very tired and not fully awake means her brain would probably short-circuit and she'd end up helping Marinette out before her thought process can catch up. 5/10

Luka: Oh, Luka, you poor, poor, boy. Marinette is not the only one who comes to you for late night therapy. So many people seek out your assistance at odd times and places, and you will ALWAYS help. You can function, and you do your best, but internally you're just a regular guy who's trying REALLY REALLY HARD to be cool and dependable. You desperately need a break, Luka. But for now I'll give you the credit you deserve. 10/10

Kagami: Her mother keeps her on a very rigid sleep schedule, so naturally she jumps at the chance to be more of a rebel and help Marinette out. Things will get broken. Even if Marinette just wanted to ask Kagami a question, there will still be property damage. 6/10

Marc: There is absolutely no way that Marc can function at all at 3 in the morning. He has been up all night writing, sustained entirely by caffeine and hyperfixation. His brain is starting to collapse from the stress and he can no longer tell fiction from reality any more. He would still try to help Marinette if she called him, but she's learned by now to just let him sleep for the sake of his health. -5/10, but like in a good way

Ondine: Probably wakes up at around this time anyway depending on which sports season it is. She can help just fine, but since she and Marinette aren't that close the chance that Ondine can assist with anything really important is low. 5/10

Aurore:

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng? Why on earth are you calling me this early?" "I need help." "What? I barely know you!" "I'm going to blackmail Alec Cataldi." "...I'm listening."

Felix: Look you just know he has the weirdest sleep schedule. He's either basically dead to the world or fully functioning without issue. He will help Marinette, though he might need to be coerced. 7/10

Zoe: She will do literally anything that Marinette asks her to. Marinette will feel very guilty about this. 9/10

Nino! Nino! Nino!

Poor poor Life-swap Adrien. He gets the suicidally impulsive best friend instead. Nino is a lot more interested in being a film director than a DJ, though he still does both. He's been editing together fight scenes to tell a story he's written around Ladybug and Chat Noir.

The two of them did pull him aside and insisted he's not speculate about their relationships or try and pry into their identities. He's respected that and only uses information the two have released publically.

He ends up partnering with Nath and Marc later, to plan out an entire series inspired by the miraculous.

His ever suffering best friend and girlfriend are constantly chasing after him to keep him out of the danger zone. Adrien even tried to pass the black cat miraculous off to him on the first day of school, but Nino ran off before he could. Adrien transformed as Chat to save him and resigned himself to the fact Nino will get himself killed if people like Adrien and Ladybug aren't going to look out for him.

Then Alya comes in, Adrien's actual saving grace, thank you for keeping his dumbass bestie alive. He owes her so many nice hats.

Hey, about your Veilleuse and Ailes Rouge au, how would the episode Silencer go? Also it would be purrfect right? (pun intended)

The main progress point of this episode would be Luka recognising Ailes Rouges 'heart song' (he can keep his magical powers :3 theres a whole subsection of magic thats hinted at in mlb that never really gets touched on, but its still kinda cool).

This would probably lead to Luka getting closer to Nath in an attempt to help him. This could then lead to either romance conflict (although i think any attraction towards Luka would be one-sided), or mutual appreciation of taste.

Context:

I headcanon Luka has known Nathaniel for atleast a few years, not very well mind you, but in the way one knows vaguely of their little sisters strange classmates.

Nath was pretty... introverted before being pushed by Tikki and later Marc, so while Juleka and Nathaniel would work together on school projects (when Rose and Alix werent available) out of quiet kid solidarity, they probably didnt know too much about eachother. Still- Luka has been around him enough to pick up his song, especially once Nath starts being more friendly and actually making friends with Jules.

Marc however hasnt been hanging around the boat house that long, if ever, so Luka doesnt recognise him.

Anyway, silly episode bits:

Nathaniel is brought in by KS to help design the costumes. Hes a costume guy while Marinettes a fashion gal. He and Marinette work together to fix up the costumes.

(Silencer off camera having stolen Ailes voice)

Ailes does loose his voice to Silencer. But this doesnt affect them all that much, excluding being immediately thrown off. Upon meeting up our boys figure, as long as they can break his helmet and catch a voice to use, it doesnt matter if they have a charm or not. Besides, Ailes has gotten better at catching little flying things.

Neither Ailes or Vei like Bob Ross at all, and do make him spill on live TV in the end. Probably less subtly than Ladybug and Chat Noir did. Our heroes are artists and dont stand for art thieves.

Bonus Kitty Section! and Silencer!Luka designs:

Im... not completely happy with them. But i wanted Silencer to resemble the Kitty Section costume. And his 'cape' flickers when he 'talks' (through the speakers on his hands and chest) like audio recordings.

Bethany's Bizarre Miraculous Halloween Special

Ah, October 15th. The midway point of October, a good time for me to post my Miraculous Halloween Special idea. This is honestly pretty independent from both my Rewrite and Shift Season, because chronologically it takes in late season 3, which I determined to be in Spring 2016, but this takes place in October. So yeah. Not really canon, but fun!

The akuma plot is pretty simple. It's Halloween in Miraculous Paris, but Grandpa Rolland is pissed that an American holiday is invading France. Hawkmoth akumatizes him into the Gargoyle, Ladybug and Chat Noir fight him, you know how it goes. What really matters is the civilian plot, and what everyone is going as:

Marinette, Alya, and Nino are all going together and Chaperoning their little siblings or Manon, in Marinette's case:

Alya is Ladybug while Marinette is Chat Noir. This was Alya's idea.

Nino is Jason Voorhees.

Manon is also Ladybug, while Ella and Etta are both Rena Rouge (one of them is supposedly an illusion, I'm not sure which one,) and Chris is Carapace.

Chloe and Sabrina are also going trick-or-treating going to a secret exclusive Halloween party. Chloe is Zelda while Sabrina is Link.

Adrien somehow convinced Nathalie (who's dressed as a witch,) and Tomoe to let him and Kagami go trick-or-treating together with the Gorilla as a chaperone. Adrien is Shinji Ikari, Kagami is Utena Tenjo, and the Gorilla is EVA Unit-01.

Ivan and Mylene are also going together alongside Ivan's little sister. The three are going as Sulley, Mike, and Boo from Monsters Inc. respectively. (Thanks to msweebyness for the idea, btw!)

Rose and Juleka are going as well, chaperoning Rose's four little goblin brothers (headcanoned characters):

Rose is Ladybug (she couldn't get Juleka to be Chat Noir.)

Juleka is Killer Queen (she couldn't get Rose to be Kira Yoshikage.)

The triplet brothers are the three little pigs, while the fourth youngest brother is the big bad wolf.

Although she's not coming with them, Rose's bratty younger sister (also headcanoned) is also trick-or-treating with her boyfriend, going as Peach and Mario respectively.

Nathmarc are also going, with Nathaniel's first cousins once removed niblings (even more headcanoned characters):

Marc is going as Kyoya Otori and managed to rope Nathaniel into being Tamaki Suoh.

Nath's niece is dressed as a goat, while Nath's nephew is dressed as a chicken.

Not everyone in the class is trick-or-treating, however. Many of them are going to the school's Halloween party:

Max is dressed as Markov, while Markov is dressed as Max.

Kim is a basic sheet ghost while Ondine is a mermaid.

Alix decided to go as the scariest thing she knows: Chloe. Chloe, when she comes to the party because she's done trick-or-treating Sabrina got tired of the secret exclusive party, is not amused.

Principal Damocles is the Owl (Hoo Hoo!), Ms. Mendeleiev is the Bubonic Plague, and Ms. Bustier is inexplicably a succubus.

Most of the students are going to the party after trick-or-treating. Aurore and Mirelle are some of these students. Aurore is Hurricane while Mirelle is Snowflake (both United Heroez.)

Lila unfortunately didn't have time to dress up because she was too busy planning the downfall of her enemies and living multiple lives helping out with all her charities.

As for adults giving away candy on Halloween:

Tom is in a gorilla suit while Sabine is a nurse.

Marlena is out working this Halloween, so Otis is handing out treats dressed as a Leopard.

Andre is giving out large candy bars to the kids that trick-or-treat there. His wife wouldn't let him dress up, though.

Luka (dressed as Josuke Hishagikata,) is handing out candies on the Liberty. Anarka is dressed as Lisa Lisa.

Max's mom is dressed as an astronaut.

Mylene's dad is dressed as the mime from his performance.

Roger's busy with his job, so he left out a bowl of candy that tells you it's your civil duty to take one and only one candy.

The Agreste Mansion isn't giving out candy, unfortunately. Gabriel doesn't like the holiday.

Chloe Goes Back In Time AU; okay so just finished reading Crossing Blades and I know there's more of it coming but I already had an idea based on a tiny part of the scene where Chloe switches seats. And yes it is of course Sabrina related as is everything with me. I think Nathaniel and Sabrina could provide a good window into how popular opinion on Purrge is divided. I headcanon Sabrina as a loyal Chat Noir fangirl so I can see her being the stand in for all the civilians who are outraged by the appearance of this unknown imposter taking the place of their beloved Chat Noir, meanwhile Nathaniel strikes me as the type to be drawn to lone wolf anti hero characters and would therefore be intrigued by this newer and bolder heroine. This would also create a dynamic where Chloe's biggest supporter is one of Purrge's most stubborn detractors, meanwhile one of Purrge's fans is someone who's got a negative opinion on Chloe. And those two characters are now sitting next to each other, which could really go a variety of ways. Also I don't see Sabrina making new friends easily in this gray area she's left in with Chloe but if she started picking fights as a result of Chloe seemingly dropping all of hers because she felt like there was an imbalance in her life without supporting Chloe in her battles, now that could be interesting. Anyway idk this kinda got away from me but my main point is like this potential Sabrina and Nath rivalry/frenemy situation where they can't shut up about Purrge and heck maybe they could drag the whole class into a civil war about it, for funsies. Did I mention this is getting away from me?

I think this would be a cute idea for a fic, but don't feel this particular AU is evolving this way. To me it doesn't feel CN was around long enough for the broad public to get to the merch/worship phase. Sabrina also has a lot going on with her ex-friend.

Expect Sabrina to get at least a moment, but she is not really the focus of this AU (though you know I love the girl... just lool at my background!)

This does remind me I need to do another Sabrina fic soon. Our normal girl in a crazy world needs more love.

since you changed up some of the canon miraculouses, do you think the lineup would change up as well, either switching around or replacing characters?

I think the biggest impact that would come from my changes to the canon Miraculouses would be with Felix and the Peacock Miraculous. Since my Peacock Miraculous does not create new individual lives but rather a physical manifestations of one's mind, Felix would have no need to claim the Peacock Miraculous since it isn't being used to control sentient beings, nor would Felix be a sentibeing, so he couldn't be killed by it being in the wrong hands. (Felix and Adrien's births are still connected to the Peacock Miraculous, with it being used to help the Graham de Vanily sisters with their fertility struggles, but the boys are not creations of the Peacock themselves).

I can also think of some other changes I would make based around this and a few other concept changes, so I think the hero lineup (including the Butterfly and Peacock being rescued) would be like this if canon used my version of the canon Miraculouses:

I think the OG five have great match up with their original Miraculouses, whose concepts and powers stayed the same in my AU, so really no need to make any changes here.

First up we have Butterfly!Felix. Even if he has no reason for the Peacock, I still think he’d be down to steal magic from his uncle. I like this match because I think Felix and Nooroo could connect to each other with their similar pasts, and also I think they'd be a good influence on each other. Nooroo being Generosity could help Felix who is more self centered, while Felix could help Nooroo with his low confidence and pride.

Next is Peacock!Luka. Luka would be such a good Peacock. And seeing how canon treats Luka like everyone's therapist, and his whole ability to understand people and express it with music, why shouldn't he get the kwami of Psyche? Honestly I think he'd be a good match up with the canon concept Emotion as well.

Next up is Cobra!Max, I just always thought Max would do so well with these time powers, his ability to analyze, remember, and strategize would benefit with the gathered information and Opportunity he could create from the Cobra Miraculous. I also thought he didn't have a particularly strong connection with the Horse Miraculous, like it's okay, but not as perfect as some other pairings in canon, so with the Cobra opened up this was a no brainer.

Then we have Horse!Zoe, who I think matches this Miraculous a lot better than Max. As Zoe is someone who has never had much freedom and was always hiding herself to fit in I think the Horse would be perfect for her, and I think Kaalki would absolutely adore Zoe as well.

Is the main reason why Goat!Marc and Rooster!Nathaniel are here because I thought this was going to be canon? Maybe. But also with Marc as a writer I just can't see him not being a good holder for Imagination. I love the idea of Orikko and Nathaniel together, I think he'd be such a good confidence booster for Nath. Also I think Marc and Ziggy would get along so well too, both having a very sweet side.

For Dog!Mylene I picked this because I never saw the Mouse as an overly good fit for her, and with the Mouse no longer shrinking holders down I felt it lost the visual match as well with Mylene being one of the shorter classmates. Then with my Dog as Detection rather than Adoration I don't think it fits Sabrina as much anymore. I swapped these two because I felt Detection would fit Mylene well seeing how active she is with trying to do good in the world, and maybe it could help her with her fears if she was more aware of her surroundings. Mouse!Sabrina I think would definitely maximize the possibilities of being able to be in multiple places at once. She’s very smart, and plus I think Mullo would help her stand up for herself.

And for everyone else... well, canon gave them a really good fit, even with the changes I made to my headcanons. Like with the Pig now being Love, it still fits Rose well, etc.

Eventually they reach the highlight of their narration, the night they went to prom together. Though obviously being in love since they were teenagers, is that enough to finally bring them together?

Listen, I really think that Luka would be a perfect addition to this tandem <3 I believe that Luka would help boost their confidence even more and also open new possibilities. Marc and Nath would know how to appreciate our beloved cinnamon roll amb make him feel understood. Also, I think that they could create a secret language between the three of them and communicate without the need for words. And don't let me start with all the projects that these three very artistic and talented people could tackle together!!!! Imagine, for example, that Luka could make a BSO for their comic!!! They could live a bohemian life together and they would always be in pace with themselves.

Luka Couffaine/Adrien Agreste/Nino Lahiffe

Okay, so what's better than TWO music boys dating? THREE music boys. Nino and Luka would both be 100% willing to fistfight Gabriel Agreste in order to give Adrien happiness and autonomy. Adrien trusts both Nino and Luka to help give him advice. Nino is his best friend and is constantly helping Adrien, but Luka is also a steady presence that is willing to help Adrien with his problems. But this is a Luka ship tournament first and foremost. I feel like Nino being a go-with-the-flow type of guy would be helpful dealing with Anarka's chaotic running of the Couffaine houseboat. Luka's also bad at using words and uses music instead, and Nino is a DJ *and* understands socially awkward Adrien well and became his friend despite any misgivings. I can see Nino being there for Luka as an open ear. Adrien of course gets along well with Nino and Luka both. He's earnest with his feelings and his problems at home and with his self esteem would get Luka's nurturing instincts kicking in. But Adrien would try and help Luka as well, they're very balanced during episodes like Desparada where they do what they can to help each other. I just think that these three would balance out well for a polycule. If one of them has a problem, the other two would try and do their best to help. Plus you can't tell me otherwise that Nino wouldn't hype up his boyfriends' band and play their songs when he's doing his DJ gigs. Or that Luka would make sure to bring pizza for study dates with his boyfriends, and Nino never turns down pizza and Adrien really deserves the extra calories. Or that Adrien as Chat Noir would show up at random to his boyfriend's window-- imagine him dropping by the Liberty with Nino in his arms, just because the two really wanted to cuddle with Luka. The chaotic shenanigans and love would be amazing.

I will never forgive the MLB creators for not making Nath the fox holder. Alya's great and all but SERIOUSLY???

Anyway have my take on Nath's costume, expect to see more designs like this maybe, the rest of this post is just random stuff for this AU

• He's a little taller and looks a bit older when he's in his suit (part of a HC of mine about all the Miraculous holders looking a year or two older when powered up) but still one of the shortest miraculous holders in the team.

• His hair is a lot less vibrant and a bit longer. He also moves his fringe so he can actually see properly

• His eyes are the same colour, but his sclera is black. When he uses his Mirage/Illusion (not sure which it'd be tbh), his eyes turn a gold-ish, brown-ish colour like an actual fox.

• He came up with his name on the spot. For the first few weeks of having his Miraculous, he stayed in the shadows but had to step in when LB and CN were getting their asses handed to them and got caught by the press after the fight was over and they asked his name. He caught a glimpse of a perfume advert and blurted out 'Vixen' before he could think of anything else.

• He started drawing Ladybug and Chat Noir after one of the akumas and was about to draw their masks when he realised who they were and promptly started losing his shit. He was incredibly relieved when he found out that Luka also knew, later down the line.

• Since he knows LB and CN's identities, he covers for them when they need to go transform or get away. Adrien just thinks he's a really nice guy, Marinette started to find it suspicious after the fourth time and now thinks he's plotting something.

• Nath changed his costume about four times canonically. He outright refused to wear the latex suit, and settled on his current costume the day before he was revealed to the public.

• Alix is, like, 75% sure he's Vixen but she ain't no snitch and covers for him when he needs it.

Nathalie is in denial, all like "I just have a deep admiration for Gabriel's drive to rescue Emilie, but it's not romantic" and uses formal distance (like calling him "sir") to maintain that.

Meanwhile, Gabriel is over here like "I am head over heels but she only sees me as a friend oh woe is me", using her formal distance as proof that she doesn't love him.

Adrien drops the "mom" word on Nathalie and she goes into an entire crisis, and lands at "good lord I am smitten".

Nathalie tries to test the waters, and foregoes the "sir" once. Gabriel very much notices and mentally screams, but his resting scowl makes Nathalie think "oh no he don't like that"

Nathalie waits a few days, before giving Gabriel her resignation. "What! Why?" "I'll get in the way of the goal." They get into an argument, and it ends with Natalie shouting "Because I'm in love with you!" which shuts Gabriel up real quick. Nathalie's all like "and it conflicts with your goal; I'll only impede you" and Nathalie's rant is stopped by Gabriel's "I'm in love with you, too."

Title: Admiration in Disguise

Chapter One

“I really am sorry sir,” Nathalie’s voice was hoarse, her chest filled with sappy fluid. Gabriel sat at her bedside, his brows creased in what seemed to be a permanent worried line. 

“Don’t apologize Nathalie,” he murmured, his eyes downcast, “It is I who should be apologizing to you.” 

Nathalie frowned, though she couldn’t find the strength to protest. Their most recent battle against Ladybug and Chat Noir had not been the least bit fruitful. Their plan seemed to misfire at every turn and it was all Nathalie’s doing. If she wasn’t so effortlessly fragile then their chances of defeating the elusive bug and her pesky cat would be much more promising. 

“Here. Drink,” Gabriel held out a glass to Nathalie, pulling her from her thoughts. His grip on the cup was firm, unlike her own, which seemed to only tremble. 

The condensation of the cup felt cool against the tip of her lips, water sprouting on her tongue, though some tiny droplets did manage to slide down her chin. In a moment Gabriel had a cloth ready to capture the excess moisture. Nathalie observed him carefully, as his fingers and the cloth shrouded around the sides of her face.

“Sorry,” she choked out once more. 

Gabriel chuckled, though it held no amount of humor.

“Look at yourself, Nathalie. Look at what I’ve done to you.” 

Nathalie’s expression softened, “Sir—” 

Gabriel raised a hand, qwelling her words, “I’ve been selfish, Nath. Your sickness has only been intensifying and I can’t help but blame myself.” 

Nathalie grimaced, slowly inching herself closer to Gabriel, the duvet the only thing separating  them. Gabriel took Nathalie’s hands in his own, his chest seizing at the feeling of the coolness in her fingers. 

“This isn’t your fault sir. I’m fully aware of the risks I’m taking. You know I want nothing more than to help you,” Nathalie assured, her voice full of sincerity. She squeezed Gabriel’s hands, though her muscles were numb. 

Gabriel stared at her, his blue eyes reflecting into her own, “I appreciate that, but I can’t keep putting you through this. I’m practically killing you.” 

“You’re not—-” as if summoned, her ailment made its presence known, as one of her coughing fits started up again. 

“Nathalie!” Gabriel shrilled, his urgent concern dripping like sap from a tree as he rested his hands upon her shoulders, his fingers pressing into her back. 

After what felt close to a millennium, Nathalie’s coughing spell ceased, though she was left gasping for air. 

“You see Nathalie. This is exactly what I’m talking about,” he murmured gravely, taking a lock of her scarlet red streaks, pushing it neatly behind her ear. Nathalie’s eyes widened at the feeling of Gabriel’s hand on her cheek, his skin akin to a gentle inferno. 

“I promise you that I am perfectly alright sir.” Nathalie breathed, “You can’t let your concern for me distract you from your goal — from Emilie.” 

Gabriel sighed, his expression contorting, “Emilie wouldn’t want you to suffer like this.”

Nathalie huffed, a wave of exasperation igniting in her core, “But what about Adrien sir? He needs his mother—” 

“What Adrien needs is stability. He’s already suffered the burden of losing his mother; we cannot let him lose you too,” Gabriel said, his determination unwavering accompanied by his steely gaze. 

Adrien. 

Just the mere thought of the young boy’s name consumed Nathalie with an unmatched guilt. She would never want to do anything that would cause the boy harm. Nathalie sucked in a breath, her expression solemn. 

“You are his family and this family will always come first,” Gabriel affirmed, dropping two capsules of cough-drop pills into Nathalie’s palm. The pills  seemed to carry a weight to them or perhaps that was just Nathalie’s perception of them compared  to Gabriel’s hand, which felt light and smooth. Gabriel held up the glass of water to Nathalie’s lips again as she swallowed the pills, her eyes closing as she did so. 

“Thank you sir.” 

“No, thank you Nathalie,” Gabriel said earnestly, his hand tucking underneath her chin.

Nathalie observed as Gabriel’s eyes glazed over. He held a look that Nathalie could not put a name to — soft but driven and yet still something hidden underneath. Nathalie could sense how her breathing became thicker, a flutter coiling down into her stomach. 

Gabriel blinked, his focus clearing, “Rest now Nathalie. I’ll have Adrien bring you your dinner.” 

Nathalie couldn’t bring herself to speak, her voice trapped in her throat, “Yes, sir.” 

“Ooh-la-la! Miss Nathalie!”

Nathalie startled, a gasp catching momentarily in her throat as her hand flew to her chest. 

"Duusu!" She scolded, her heart still pulsating from the abrupt scare. 

"Sorry Miss Nathalie!" Duusu singsonged, flying over to hover above her owner’s shoulder.

Nathalie let out a strained chuckled, though it sent a poignant sting revving down her throat. 

“What’s the matter Duusu? Couldn’t find a more creative way to say hello?” Nathalie teased whilst moving to pull her laptop shut. 

Duusu giggled, her voice ringing high like chimes, “What are you working on, Miss Nathalie?” Her curiosity was evident in the way her wide eyes peered inquisitively at the reflection of the computer screen. 

Nathalie’s cheeks flushed with color, a rim of anxiety shooting down her spine. 

“It’s nothing Duusu — just organizing some files.” 

In the next moment, Duusu let out a melodramatic wail, accompanied by vigorous arm flapping. 

“But Miss Nathalie! Mister Gabriel insisted that you rest!” 

Nathalie sighed, realizing that she wasn't going to be able to reason with the little overly persistent kwami, despite the fact that she had been indeed ‘resting’ for she had taken to her work in her bedroom.

“You and I both know how desperately Gabriel needs the miraculous to bring Emilie back and I want nothing more than to help him but… she paused, a wave of dizziness washing over her, a painful reminder of the very thing she was trying so hard to overcome, “my illness is the very thing that is holding him back and I can’t do that, not when his intentions are so pure. I refuse to be his undoing, much less the catalyst in his downfall.” 

Another wail escaped Duusu once more, along with even more intensified arm flailing. 

“But Miss Nathalie! Mister Gabriel doesn’t want you to get sick like Miss Emilie!” 

A tender smile played on Nathalie lips at Duusu’s caring nature, as she extended her cupped hands towards the kwami.

"I'm not Emilie, Duusu. I'm Gabriel's assistant. It's my job to assist him."

"But you're more than that–you’re family! Mister Gabriel said so!" Duusu argued.

"Adrien's family," Nathalie corrected.

Duusu wailed again, "But Mister Gabriel cares about you too!” 

Nathalie huffed, her heartbeat stuttering. She could feel a tiny bead of warmth spread throughout her chest, though that was mostly cloaked by her astonishment at Duusu’s ramifications. 

“I…Well…I am his assistant so I’m sure he cares about me to some extent.” 

Duusu whined, her crests swaying back and forth, “But don’t you care about him too Miss Nathalie?” 

Nathalie’s muscles clenched, that familiar warmth returning to her core, “He’s my boss Duusu so yes, of course I care about him but only in that of a professional capacity.” 

“But—” Duusu started, her entire body convulsing with protest before being abruptly cut off by Nathalie.

“Are you trying to suggest something Duusu?” Nathalie snapped, arms folded. 

She honestly didn't like being this harsh with Duusu, but she didn't like what the kwami was trying to imply either.

"He is my boss and I am his assistant—that is all," Nathalie reiterated with as much conviction as she could.

Duusu stayed silent for a moment, mumbling and buzzing about to herself until she piped up, "But are you sure, Miss Nathalie? I think Mister Gabriel wants to get closer to you. He even told you not to call him 'sir' anymore."

The kwami wasn't wrong. Gabriel had indeed made that request multiple times, and recently he'd urged her to address him by his first name in front of Adrien, which had certainly taken her aback, to say the very least.

Nathalie bit her lip, her hands clanging together, “We’ve known each other for quite some time Duusu but the fact still remains — I am his employee. It would be impolite of me to address him in any other manner."

Duusu giggled, "I don't know Miss Nathalie. I think Mister Gabriel has feelings for you."

Nathalie’s head snapped up, a tingling sense of bewilderment coursing through her veins.

“Enough Duusu!” she hissed sharply. 

Duusu’s laughter halted abruptly, a whimper chiding from her, "I’m sorry Miss Nathalie."

Regret clawed at Nathalie's heart as she watched Duusu sulk away to turn in for the night — her desire to call her back and her desire to hold her ground conflicting. She hadn't meant to hurt Duusu's feelings, but she had to shut the kwami down.

She couldn’t have Duusu going around with such speculations, especially when there was no truth to them. Sure, she cared for the man and did hold quite a deep respect for him, but who wouldn’t? Gabriel’s intentions were beyond the most noble. His ambition and utter devotion to Emilie was remarkable — truly admirable.

Gabriel always put his love for Emilie above all else and Nathalie wished with all her being that she could say the same, for Emilie had once been one of her closest companions. And Gabriel, despite his cold exterior, had a heart of gold — a heart that didn’t deserve the heartbreak it had suffered. 

Nathalie wanted nothing more than to see Gabriel smile again, for his joy evoked something in her, something akin to a euphoric bliss.

Nathalie would ensure Gabriel’s success, even if she died in the process.

Chloe as Ladybug and Nath as Chat Noir - chlonath AU

Ok so I know this concept isn’t revolutionary or whatever, but strap in I have a lot of thoughts-

So in this, where for Marinette and Adrien getting a miraculous and becoming a superhero helps them through their issues, for Chloe and Nathaniel they instead enable unhealthy coping mechanisms. Let me explain:

Where in canon, becoming Ladybug helped Marinette grow into herself more, build self-confidence and assurance when in her citizen life she’s clumsy and the mousy classmate, for Chloé it’d be her gateway to getting the attention and validation she craves. But the thing is that seeking this sort of attention to fill a void never actually does that, you’re always only left wanting more.

Where for Adrien, having the chance to become Chat Noir made him be able to drop his perfect son model persona and be wild and free and laidback, get some freedom, for Nath it’d become a power fantasy, being able to be strong and respected like he’s always dreamed, but it’d also make him adopt a fake persona. Becoming one, instead of shedding one.

In short, instead of truly being all in it to help other people and/or doing the best job they can, it’s all bad coping with their citizen lifestyle & focused on their own self.

And you’re going to say; Well that doesn’t sound so bad. Oh no, oh no trust me it is. Being superheroes and feeling important for a bit will not in any way sort their issues out.

Chloe indeed getting positive attention from being Ladybug will def not act like therapy with her and won’t solve the shit ton of issues she has, and ultimately what she needs isn’t fame at all, or support relying on how much she does (aka transactional support), that’ll only shift her world view from "to be important(aka respected and "good") I need to be like my mother 24/7" to "to be important(aka liked) I need to excel as a superhero 24/7". What she needs is to allow herself to be imperfect and vulnerable and getting a good support system.

And Nath is so much worse oh no my boy. Imo he’s very much the sort of bully victim to fantasize about suddenly growing incredible strength or magical powers and slamdunking on their bullies with it, I see him as having some anger issues, mostly bc of the ep where he’s quick to assume Marc is ill intentioned and snaps at him + his Evillustrator episode. Of course though, like with Chloe, their issues stem from trauma. But all this to say that as a superhero? It would be the biggest ego trip for him. He’d put on this act of what he thinks the "cool, appreciated" jokester superhero behaves like and ultimately, like with Chloe, the validation he gets from being a superhero won’t truly feel like validation for him. His service to the city would (like Chloe, yeah they do have similarities ngl) make him feel entitled to more recognition and things in his citizen life. He’d want to randomly use his powers to get attention from citizens, etc etc, and fighting and being in a situation of power would enable him to let out his anger and resentment in unhealthy ways.

Yayy say hi to our heroes!! They do seek to defeat akumas and protect the city & citizens tho.

On the first meeting as superheroes they wouldn’t like each other, but after that Nath would become smitten with Ladybug, and not out of idealism either. It’ll be so ironic that he’s so in love with her as Ladybug but absolutely loathes her as Chloe. I think Chloe might have tried one of her flashy tricks like endangering the train for attention, but then she’d get demolished by the akuma, and then when she ultimately wins and defeats it, the saved citizens cheer for her so much more than they did when she faked a problem. So, she thought, here actions actually matter instead of pretenses and appearances like in high society and politics? Wild. And getting demolished actually gives her a wake up call that this isn’t play-pretending, it’s serious, and so in my AU as ladybug she’d be pretty no nonsense and straight to the point, liking to be valued by her merits because she does put in efforts.

Tikki’s adherance to rules and moral righteousness does rub off on her, but honestly Chloe doesn’t see future consequences all that much. Her reason for rejecting Chat Noir’s advances (besides her not liking him that much, no love square bc I don’t think in this AU Chloe would have a crush on Nath, at least not until he gives her a chance ) and request to know each other’s identities isn’t because of rules or safety at all, but because she’s terrified that he’ll reject her if he knows who she is. And she’s right to be, because when the identity reveal does happen, Nath is pissed and refuses to see her for like one or two weeks. But yes Tikki does imprint in her the importance of rules and plans of action, and that… Ends up making her more bossy in her citizen life. Akuma attacks? Chloe will be telling her classmates how to act as she gets a special free pass to leave because of her father, pissing everyone off.

Now where it’d get fun is that Chloe would slander the shit out of the Akuma’s costumes, and Hawkmoth’s if she ever sees it. Like Marinette doesn’t does that in canon and she’s an aspiring fashion designer hello??! I guess that comedic potential will have to go to our meanest girl critic then. Also she def does banter with Chat Noir. Like, the nickname chaton? She tries it once condescendingly, saying and Chat Noir goes "Don’t call me kitten" understandably peeved, and she goes "Well, what am I going to call you then? Chat Noir is so alleyway tomcat, ew. Hmm, how about tiger?" Pointing to his hair, and that makes him feel kinda fierce and badass so he agrees lol

But also, I think he’d start giving more chances to Chloe in citizen life and in turn it’d surprise Chooe and encourage her to be more vulnerable with him and in general. They form a tense but non-hostile acquaintanceship. When asked why, Nath just goes "Someone taught me that giving second chances can surprise you." aka Ladybug because he disliked her at first (she reminded him of Chloe lol). Chloe would be super curious about and interested in the superhero comics Nath makes, centered around Ladybug and Chat Noir’s adventures, some suspiciously accurate and some very obviously made up. When poiting at his comics, she calls Chat Noir ‘tiger’ and Nath is SO disturbed about it, but Chloe’s like "?? Well it’s know Ladybug calls hom that, so um, like, everyone calls him that now you know? Get in with the times"

The relationship between the miraculous holders and their kwamis would be crucial.

Like, we know that Chloe admires Ladybug in canon a bunch, but I don’t remember why exactly, so I don’t think Chloe would necessarily be overjoyed at first to get such a huge responsibility dropped on her. But all that Tikki would need to say is "I chose you, no one else can do it", aka, "you’re special" and Chloe is instantaneously sold. Once she realizes it’s not a game she’d feel a lot of pressure on her shoulders, but ultimately she’ll end up feeling like it’s her duty and hers alone and she can’t give it to anyone else, because she’s special. But as time goes on, Tikki becomes someone Chloe really leans on. She sort of replaces Mr. Cuddly for her: Tikki is a supportive presence that offers unconditional advice and affection. Of course Tikki will scold her on a bunch of things, helping her see the errors of her way and acting as a sort of moral compass, BUT! Tikki will also be the only person that she can truly just be with, even Jean can’t do that fully because ultimately he’s a hired worker and doesn’t want to be fired, or be super attached only for his contract to end y’know. With everyone, even Adrien imo, she has some expectations to uphold or effects she wants to have, but Tikki? Tikki’s seen her bawling her eyes out, saying ugly things out of anger, covered in mud, she’s seen everything. Tikki knows everything about her and her situation in both halves of her life, and she hasn’t left, and that just means that Chloe can truly have no filter with her. And Tikki takes care of her holder.

Needless to say Nath jumps onto the opportunity as soon as Plagg so much as utters a word. I think it’s often forgotten or undermined, but while Plagg is generally laidback, he also has a strong sense of morals and he 100% will bluntly confront Nath if he tries or does anything shitty or anything for the wrong reasons. He will 100% call out Nath on it if he’s not taking being a superhero seriously enough (I know, god forbid Plagg to be the pne to do that lmao). Plagg is that type of influence that will encourage Nath to stand up for himself and become more self-confident (in a healthy and genuine way) in his citizen life. He’ll tell him to stand up to his bullies, and he’ll hype him up like "You’re epic! Yeah!! You can do this!! YEAH!!!" which will be SO good for Nath. But, if Nath is thinking of getting revenge on, say, Chloe, in a cruel way, Plagg will def be the first to say it’s wrong and will only make everything worse for everyone. He’s a sort of firm but incredibly warm older brother. In a similar way to Chloe, Plagg’s seen how Nath is and doesn’t mind it at all, is still the same supportive way, and that helps Nath with his insecurities, that maybe if Plagg still likes him then that how he really is isn’t lame or plain or boring.

Tikki is the supportive and present parental figure she needs. Plagg is the emotionally & socially intelligent and encouraging friend he needs.

So in the end, the true remedy for shit self-esteem isn’t superhero powers but the friends we made along the way.
