I need help finding a children’s book. It’s about a boy who sees a monster on a mountain near their home and he tells his parents but they don’t believe him. So he goes and talks to the monster and the monster EATS HIM. and then it goes home and pretends to be the boy and the parents tuck him in bed.

I asked my sister if she remembers it and she doesn’t and my mom insists she would only read us stories about nice monsters. I need to know I didn’t make this up and I can’t find it on google

Plague Doctor? Deep-Sea-Creature-based Mermaid? Gore-based horror that’s made somehow more intense by being purely text? The subtle-then-flagrant change from using “the” to exclusively “my” when referring to the plague doctor? It fucks majorly.
