Since the 9-1-1 writers seem to be having trouble with it the last couple seasons, here are my suggestions for Hen storylines that don't involve the fact that her children are adopted:

Hen has to train a probie (or Eddie) and realizes that being really good at her job doesn't mean she's good at teaching it

Hen struggles with letting go of the captaincy because she realizes that Denny and Mara aren't going to be in grade school forever but she might never get the opportunity back. She decides she needs a hobby instead.

Hen becomes captain and struggles with being the boss of her friends when she has to order them to do something they don't want to do

Chimney becomes captain and Hen struggles with her friend being the boss of her because he has to order her to do something she doesn't want to do

Hen goes back to med school

Hen's mother has to move into assisted living

Hen joins a local concert band for fun and enrichment and starts playing the bassoon again

Hen gets involved in some HOA dispute and starts doing ridiculous things to her front yard out of spite (by which I mean brings Buck and Eddie over to landscape for her)

Hen finds the gay youth incomprehensible and has a moment about it

Mara gets a crush on a boy, and Hen and Karen have to call Buck and Maddie and ask them how boys work

Hen rebuilds Bobby like Frankenstein

Hen gets injured and her light duty is working at the academy. She gets to mentor other Black women who are joining the department and make sure they have a different experience than she did.

Hen ends up with a group of probie lesbian groupies and feels weird about the way they all idealize her

Karen loses her grant money but wait! There's something fishy going on here! Now Hen and Karen are the crime-solving couple.

This is just what I've come up with off the top of my head in the last 10 minutes btw. 9-1-1 writers please consider.

I think it’s actually heartbreaking when I’m rereading one of my unfinished fics that I haven’t worked on in a while so I can, yk, work on it, and I’m like getting really into it because it’s so good and then it stops because it’s unfinished

Evan Buckley (aka Buck) is a main character from 9-1-1! He is canonically bisexual and has an ex-boyfriend named Tommy Kinard, as well as four ex-girlfriends named Natalia Dollenmeyer, Taylor Kelly, Ali Martin and Abigail Clark. He also kissed Lucy Donato and hooked up with Jesse and “Groovyheels”.

And that thing I said a few months ago. Where Tommy was wearing the EXACT same outfit as Eddie was the last time Buck saw him.

LMAO remember how Tommy broke up with Buck because he thought Buck would one day leave him for Eddie. Then, Buck and Tommy serendipitously ran into each other at a bar that Buck was only at because he was trying to make a new friend to fill the hole that Eddie's absence left in his life. Except all he was doing on said night out was talking about Eddie and how great he is. And the only thing that properly got his mind off the loss was having sex with his ex boyfriend "as a distraction" from missing Eddie (i.e., trying to replace Eddie with simple friendship weirdly wasn't helpful, but sex/feeling wanted by a romantic partner was). And then Tommy wanted to get back together with Buck because Eddie was gone for good and thus no longer his romantic "competition," so he made a 76-course celebratory breakfast complete with champagne and $200 worth of eggs. But when Tommy dared to speak the truth out loud, Buck got so mad that he vaguely and confusingly equated his lack of romantic feelings for tommy with his presence of feelings for Eddie and basically told Tommy to his face that he doesn't care about him and was only using him for sex.......................that all happened...On 911 on ABC.....crazy stuff.........

(Buddie diehards also really hate Maddie. Idk why, but the crazy ones ALWAYS do. Ties into the misogyny thing. And we all know the bucktommies love to hate Eddie, but these ones hate him in a racist way. So.)

buck at the basketball game: man :( eddie is having fun without me :( i feel like he's leaving me behind which isn't fair maybe but also he's the only person who's NEVER made me feel insecure about my place in his life and now he has a new bestie :( and hes going to like him more and put HIM in his will :( *sad dog sigh* i need to break his ankle

meanwhile eddie: man best day EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bestie finally came along to PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nothing will EVER ruin today even if someone SNAPPED my ANKLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

also i firmly believe and have subscribed to the "eddie doesn't even need him to play basketball he just wants buck there" propaganda

even funnier when you consider the buck pov of that ep. he sees eddie with this literal golden halo around him, happy and goofy and beautiful, and at no point does he consider any of that might be because of him 😭

Since Bobby died, Buck is a wreck. We all know this. He’s been a wreck since day one no bobby. But he keeps acting with this weird pretending to be normal but will definitely break at any moment, and he’s also back to being super reckless at work. Just like, doing all these crazy stunts that he hasn’t even thought about since he was a probie. Because he knows he isn’t logical and he knows it doesn’t make sense and he knows it’s obviously not going to happen, but he can’t help but thinking that if he’s being so incredibly stupid, Bobby will pop out of somewhere to fire him again. Or at least yell at him.

And no one else knows what’s going on, because Buck knows that this is stupid. But Ravi’s there as his partner to kind of be like “Buck what the fuck” and Eddie’s there as a paramedic watching everything and is like “buck you are going to get yourself and probably Ravi also killed. Stop that” and chim has a whole conversation with Buck and hen is like “buck please talk to someone about this. Talk to me or talk to Eddie or chim or a therapist, Buck plz”

But Buck can’t talk about it. And he can’t stop. And he knows what he’s thinking is wrong, but he can’t help but keep on keeping on. Because as insane and stupid and dumb as it sounds, what if?
