A few minutes later, the duo emerge from the store as a whole, Kokichi unconscious (and fully clothed) in Shuichi's arms. The two clearly didn't fuck, but Kokichi's wearing clean bandages over his eye and hands, so... that's probably what they were actually doing. Shuichi doesn't head back toward the pizzeria as promised, though. He starts heading back to his and Kokichi's place.

And they just... continue being sweet with each other. Honestly, from a distance, they'd look just like... a normal couple. Not at all the monsters or psychopaths they're believed to be. By the time they both escaped their situations, their sanity had already degraded slowly over time, until there was barely anything left. They're both broken, but broken in ways that complement each other's brokenness. It's clear just how much they need each other.

Honestly, these two have been on their own for so long without anyone to sympathize with them, so they've developed an "us against the world" sort of mindset. And nobody's ever been kind enough to try and show them the slightest bit of empathy but each other, and Dam on a more recent level. If they're both so used to being hated, it's no wonder they ended up so desensitized to pain and being tormented verbally.

The duo continue to joke and giggle with each other, showing that they really are each other's safe space. They've both been through some shit, and since nobody ever saw them as actual human beings or expressed solidarity with them, they pretty much had to develop personalities that would protect them. Kokichi by always smiling and giggling, Shuichi by keeping his head low and fending off his attackers verbally (and sometimes physically). They aren't evil, they had just dared to try and survive.

Look who's going back to his old self! Which, in actuality, is a good thing. After all, that means nobody else has to die in Shuichi's quest to make him smile again.

Eventually, Shuichi returns, and Kokichi immediately crashes into him and yawns, just so tired of the day's events. Shuichi smiles at Kokichi, rubbing his back. No matter what you'd think, neither of these two are evil. They just... tried to survive, and were punished for it.
