I really like hágamelo saber for "let me know" and ser sorprendido haciendo algo for "to be caught doing something." idk I just think they're neat
also mantenerse al día for "to stay up to date"

so you can define a vector space using a basis, and there can be multiple of these giving you bases, not to be confused with bases which is the plural of base and is also pronounced the same as basis. also not to be confused with bassist, which

I looove abbreviating "frequency" to "freq" in my notes. bc it just reads like. fourier transform puts the signal in the freak domain. sampling freak should be at least two times the bandwidth. low pass filter gets rid of the high freaks.

since when is caber conjugated to quepo in first person singular present?!
why are all the other present conjugations regular. why did I only learn this today. why was I taught how to conjugate caber in the preterite but never in the present form.
it's because I actively avoid using caber because I knew beforehand its conjugations are weird. but judging from my dictionary it seems there may be some useful idiomatic expressions with caber. so idk

thinking about one of my electrical engineering professors and
the other day he said something that struck me as kind of sad. he makes his lecture presentations in powerpoint, and on one slide there was a graphic of a car, made up of little boxes. he pointed it out and said this sad little excuse for a car is why he's in electrical engineering, why he's not an artist. he made these slides a long time ago, before he realized he could use clipart.
I found the car cute and endearing. I thought it showed some artistry, and creativity, and craft. and care.
this professor cares a lot. about his slides, about his lectures, about his students. it's so obvious in everything he does that he cares so much. but he can't show that he cares-- no, because he is not an artist. caring is for artists, not engineers.
if you submit a report with graphs that don't have labels, he'll take off points. because graphs without labels are just art. key word: just. because art is not valuable, to an engineer. because art is not something you're supposed to care about, as an engineer. especially not the art you make yourself.
and that strikes me as profoundly sad.

my toxic trait is if I'm learning any idea from modern statistics that's named after a person I will put in my notes if that person was a eugenicist

I like going to the library and just looking at the books. not looking for any book in particular, just putting myself in a random section and seeing what's available, finding intersections of topics I couldn't have imagined. there's comfort in knowing there's a real, physical collection of information
