NUTRO the Robot (1979), by Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. Nutritionist Dave Canty serves as voice and remote-control operator for Nutro, a 400-pound robot who tours the country speaking to children on nutrition. "NUTRO, A CREATION of the Vitamin Education Program of Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., as a public-service, nutrition-education program, is touring as a "guest lecturer" on the subject of nutrition. His message, delivered in schools across the country, is on the importance of proper nutrition and correct nutrition information. The 5-foot-2, 31-inch-wide, conical-shape robot has a movable globe head, red light-bulb eyes and flexible accordion-like arms. His wood and metal frame is clothed in a combination of yellow spandex and red and blue glittery lurex fabric. It houses over 500 moving parts and 2,000 feet of wire. Nutro's head moves from side to side and can soar 12 inches skyward when he explains how excited he is about nutrition. His chest lights up to emphasize the essential nutrients printed on his chest wall. He can wave and shake hands." – Robot raves about nutrition, the Index-Journal, Greenwood, South Carolina, April 21, 1979.

Radio Rex (1922), Elmwood Button Co., Stratford, Conn. "Radio Rex was the first commercial toy to respond to voice commands. Produced in 1922 by the Elmwood Button Co., Radio Rex predates computers by more than 20 years. Rex is a brown bulldog made of celluloid and metal that responds to its name by leaping out of its house. The dog is controlled by a spring that is held in check by an electromagnet. The electromagnet is sensitive to sound patterns containing acoustic energy around 500 Hz, such as the vowel in "Rex." The acoustic trigger interrupts the current to the electromagnet allowing the spring to propel Rex out of its house." – Toys That Have a Voice, by Judith Markowitz, SpeechTechMag.
"The little toy called "Radio Rex" is familiar to everybody. The toy dog that comes out of his little kennel when you speak to him does not really work by radio, but he does exemplify a prophecy of radio. Anyone who feels like it can build into his house, tomorrow, a radio device, for example, that will open a door if you speak to it. Set this device for the words "open sesame" and you can emulate the master of the forty thieves." – Will Radio Do Our Housework?, Popular Radio, April 1924 (p.358).

The Iron Dobbin (1933). FACT or FAKE? “A mechanical horse that trots and gallops on steel-pipe legs under the impulse of a gasoline engine, is the recent product of an Italian inventor. With this horse, he declares, children may be trained to ride. The Iron Dobbin is said to canter along a road or across a rough field with equal ease. Its design recalls the attempts before the days of the automobile, to imitate nature and produce a mechanical steed capable of drawing a wagon.” - Popular Science, April 1933. This wonderful animation by Margarita Angel re-imagines the Iron Dobbin in action.

Paola Pimentel & Johnny Vasquez, Sculptures of Chinchorro Mummies, between Arica and Caleta Camarones, Chile, 2017
Paola Pimentel and Johnny Vásquez were the two artists in charge of giving life and capturing the figures of a couple of giant Chinchorro Mummies, recently inaugurated 100 kilometers from Arica, next to Cuya.
The works are capable of musicalizing the wind, thanks to the interaction of the breeze and the grooves of each sculpture, which generates a series of unique sounds.
The Chinchorro Mummies are installed in the rural town with the primary objective of highlighting the origins of this ancient culture, considered one of the oldest in the world.
